METTLER TOLEDO Thornton multi-parameter transmitters and sensors provide a convenient platform for measurements throughout the makeup water system, from pre-treatment to final deionized water storage.

Reverse osmosis system operation demands continuous monitoring to detect and correct abnormal oper-ating conditions and prevent damage to costly membranes.

Our instrument platforms include measurements of pH and ORP to protect membranes. The same plat-forms measure conductivity, tem-perature and flowrate for close sur-veillance of membrane performance.

Efficient operation and regeneration of ion exchangers also depend on continuous monitoring of key parameters. Our UniCond conduc-tivity, 2300Na sodium, 2800Si silica and 5000TOCi total organic

The UniCond conductivity sensor produces highest accuracy cation and degassed cation conductivity measurements, due to the system calibration of a built-in measuring circuit, cell constant and tempera-ture sensor. From these accurate conductivity measurements, calcu-lated pH is available in all of our transmitter platforms.

The pHure Sensor gives reliable di-rect pH measurement with minimal maintenance. This backup mea-

surement is useful if upset cycle chemistry conditions go outside the limits for accurate pH calculation.

METTLER TOLEDO Thornton offers several options for measuring dis-solved oxygen to achieve control at ppb levels appropriate for the cycle chemistry treatment used.

Our sodium and silica ana- lyzers provide highly sensitivemonitoring of steam quality toprevent corrosion and deposition

on turbines. These analyzers are also excellent for detecting con-denser leaks and condensate pol-isher breakthrough.

In cooling towers, conductivity is used to control blow down of ex-cess mineral build up. Measuring and controlling pH helps prevent scaling and optimizes conditions for water treatment effectiveness. ORP can be used to monitor oxidizing biocides. With METTLER TOLEDO Thornton multi-parameter transmitters and sensors these three measurements are efficiently combined.

Another use of METTLER TOLEDO Thornton pH sensors is in the con-trol of limestone slurry dosing in flue gas desulfurization wet scrub-bers. In this process careful control of pH is essential to achieve effi-cient removal of SOx and obtain satisfactory gypsum slurry properties.

Other applications such as genera-tor stator cooling present chal-lenges in maintenance of sensors while minimizing corrosion. Chal-lenges that our sensors and auto-mated cleaning systems easily meet.

Single probe pH sensors combining measuring, reference, temperature and solution ground elements en-able straightforward insertion and removal for cleaning and calibra-tion. This can be accomplished either manually or automatically using EasyClean™ sensor cleaning and calibration systems. For waste-

water neutralization, METTLER TOLEDO Thornton transmitters in-clude built-in PID control with out-put signals compatible with all types of control valves and meter-ing pumps. This can be especially convenient when a PLC or other
