FLOWER AND PLANT Rules and Regulations

1. All flowers and plants entered as specimens must have been grown for at least 60 days by

the exhibitor. No specimen by commercial nurserymen will be entered for competition.

2. No individual may enter more than one exhibit under any lot or entry number and NOT

MORE THAN 20 ENTRIES TOTAL PER PERSON ALLOWED.

3. In cut flower exhibits, more or fewer flowers than called for will disqualify the exhibit.

4. Floral arrangements must be made by the exhibitor at home, although material for

arrangements need not be grown by the exhibitor.

5. No premiums will be paid for exhibits not listed in this catalog.

6. Entries of all flowers must be received between 8:30am and 5:00p.m. on Tuesday of the fair.

Cut flowers and arrangements for which entries were made on Tuesday may be brought inWednesday morning between 8-9 a.m.

7. Registration tags for plants may be made at the Flower Building by the exhibition staff

where the exhibitor’s number will be added and the tag recorded in the judge’s book

8. Exhibitors are responsible for entering plants/flowers in the correct category. If any

plant/flower is entered in the wrong category, it will not be judged in that category. In some

cases, incorrect entries will be adjusted, if the exhibitor does not already have an entry in the

correct category.

9. In cut flower exhibits and displays, judging will be on size of bloom, color, quality, and

condition of foliage and bloom. In floral arrangements, judging will be based on design,

stability, container, and color.

10. Container plants must not have plant shine or other material on foliage or flowers. No live

animals or artificial decorations shall be exhibited with the plant. Judging will be based on

cleanliness, uniformity, size for container, and overall health and vigor.

A Best in Show ribbon may be awarded for an outstanding flower, pot plant or floral

arrangement. Ribbons may be awarded regardless of number of entries, if judges deem the

entry worthy.

POULTRY AND RABBIT DIVISION Megan Roberts, chairperson

Rules and regulations: 1. PLEASE NOTE: The 2019 Tangipahoa Parish Fair

will take place at the Tangipahoa ParishFairgrounds.

2. Participation is open to youth only.3. All entries must be the property of exhibitors.4. No person may enter more than one exhibit of

the same variety.5. Those exhibiting poultry and/or rabbits will do

so at their own risk. All animals will be givencare and attention. Precautions will be taken toreturn the animals in good shape to owners.

6. Any animals showing symptoms of disease willbe excluded from the exhibit removed from thegrounds and returned to the owners.

7. Poultry may be entered as single cock, hen,cockerel, pullet, old trio, and young trio.

8. Poultry competing in single cannot compete intrio.

9. All entries must preregister by 5 p.m. Tuesday,October 1, 2019 at the Tangipahoa ParishFairgrounds. Late entries will not be accepted.

10. Exhibits must be brought to the Fair’s Poultryand Rabbit Area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday,October 1, 2019. All exhibits must be in placeand ready for judging by 9:30 a.m. Wednesday,October 2, 2019.

11. No exhibit can be moved before 1 p.m. Sunday,October 6, 2019.

12. Any other matter not covered by specific rules,is the decision of the poultry/rabbit committee.

13. Each exhibitor/family will beresponsible for feeding and refillingwater daily for their own animals thisyear. The poultry and rabbit barn willbe open from 8am-6pm each day foryou to tend to your animals. Bring propercontainers for water and feed. Bowls will NOTbe allowed as the animals spill them over andthen have nothing to eat or drink for that day.Additionally, you must bring enough feed foryour animal for the entire week. The fair willnot supply feed for your animals.

14. Cages are available on a first come first servebasis; therefore, it is advised that exhibitorsbring their own cage if possible.

15. Owner may take ribbon off the cage.

Exhibits will be judged by comparison methods. The American Standard of perfection will be the guide of the judges in awarding premiums, the judges will award no premiums to any unworthy specimen. The following definitions will apply to all exhibits in poultry and rabbit divisions.

Cock – a male bird twelve (12) months or older Hen – a female bird twelve (12) months or older Cockerel – a male bird less than twelve (12) months old Pullet – a female bird less than twelve (12) months old Young Trio – a cockerel and two pullets, same variety Old Trio – a cock and two hens, same variety Rabbit – any breed.

2018 may be exhibited. Only one per lot

who exhibits them. This includes canned

items.

4. Canned products must be exhibited in

standard pint or quart sized jars. The exhibitor

must have canned the product.

6. To prevent food waste exhibitors may exhibit a

one-fourth (1/4) cake or pie; 3 cookies, 3

muffins, etc. You must exhibit all baked goods

on paper plates enclosed in a zipped plastic

bag, with entry tag stapled on outside of bag.

7. A Sweepstakes Ribbon will be awarded the

individual with the highest and most placings

in the Junior and Senior Divisions.

8. Specify which age category you belong in with

a “B” for ages 9 - 13 and a “C” for ages 14 – 19.

The appropriate letter should be placed by the

lot number on the exhibitor’s tag.

9. Exhibits must be picked up in this division on

Sunday, October 6, 2019 between 1 p.m. and 3

p.m. Claim tickets must be shown to pick up

exhibits.
