Palintest tests are based on measuring the intensity ofcolours produced by Palintest reagents and usingPalintest photometers to measure that intensity of colour.This is colorimetry and can be defined as any techniqueused to evaluate an unknown colour in reference toknown colours.
To avoid subjective measurement between test samplesand colour standards, a colorimeter can be used forquantitative measurement of the amount of coloured lightabsorbed by a sample (with reagents added) in referenceto an untreated sample (blank).
White light is made up of many different wavelengths of light. A colorimeter passes a white light beam through an optical filter which transmits only one particular band of wavelength of light to the photodetector where it is measured.
The difference in the amount of coloured light transmitted by a colourless sample (blank) and the amount of coloured light transmitted by a coloured sample is a measurement of the amount of coloured light absorbed by the sample.
The use of filters improves the sensitivity of this process and choice of the correct optical filter (and,therefore, the correct wavelength) of light is important. It is interesting to note that the filter that gives the most sensitive calibration for a test factor is the complementary colour of the test sample. For example, the chlorine test produces a pink colour proportional to the chlorine concentration in the sample, ie the greater the chlorine concentration, the darker the pink colour. In this case, a green filter gives the greatest sensitivity as a pinkish-red solution absorbs mostly green light.
Palintest photometers calculate and then display the test results directly in milligrams per litre (mg/l) of the test factor, by comparing the amount of absorbed light to the calibration data programmed into the instrument.
What to Look for?
What can it test for?
Consider not only the frequent tests like chlorine and pH, etc, but also whether it may be able to do ‘troubleshooting’, whether you may want the option to do tests such as phosphate, nitrate, iron, sulphate etc.
Waterproof Water splashing is inevitable and the instrument may even get dropped into the pool. Therefore look for an IP67 rating which means the unit is designed to still work after being submerged at 1 metre for 30 minutes.
Backlit screen Consider the location where the instrument will be used and the available lighting conditions. A larger screen and text can be useful in poorly lit locations.
Power source Should prolonged use of the backlight be necessary, then use the option to run off a low voltage mains adapter to extend battery life. This means the instrument has its own memory of past results, useful for checking and auditing.
On-board data log
Stores the last 500 analysis results in non-volatile memory, time and date stamped, audit trail identifiers.
USB for downloading
This enables the on-board memory to be easily transferred to a PC or laptop for secure storage, analysis or simply as backup evidence to the paper records.
Integrated Water Balance calculator
The instrument will lead you through a few tests and at the touch of a button calculates the Water Balance from the results.

These are invaluable for verifying the accuracy and performance of your photometer.

The new Pooltest 25 Professional Plus Photometer is a fully featured, waterproof, precision pool photometer for the most demanding professional.
The instrument features a complete range of swimming pool water tests, including the more specialised tests such as phosphate and sulphate, as well as the usual free and total chlorine, pH and alkalinity. In total, there are over 25 tests on this instrument.
Also featured is a waterproof USB computer connection. The unit stores up to 500 results in its on-board memory and can transfer them to a PC database, spreadsheet or into a number of sophisticated pool management software packages. With an IP67 rating, the Pooltest 25 Professional Plus will withstand being submerged for up to half an hour in a metre of water.
The instrument is simple to use and integrated with the Palintest range of chemical tests provides excellent data for all levels of users. Its large backlit LCD screen allows easy access to programmed tests, and the fully automated set-up and automatic wavelength selection makes testing for multiple parameters quick and easy.
The unit runs on standard ‘AA’ batteries and can be powered through the USB port from the computer or via its own standalone adapter.
The software interface is in six languages and the easy to navigate menus are great for the pool management professional.
Two Pooltest 25 Professional Plus kits are available, one supplied in a hard carry case and one in a soft carry case both with space to store reagents.

The new products offer excellent accuracy, using narrow band filters with a wavelength tolerance of ± 2 nm.
The instruments also offer increased path length for measurement, enabling greater resolution at low concentrations for better precision.

The Palintest Pocket pH sensor is a simple-to-use microprocessor-based pocket sized instrument for checking the pH value of water and aqueous solutions.
Palintest Pocket TDS and Conductivity sensors are simple-to-use pocket sized instruments for checking the total dissolved solids content or conductivity of water and aqueous solutions. The TDS sensor calibration is based on the established factor that TDS equals conductivity x 0.67 at 25°C (except TDS salt pool sensor which uses a factor of 0.55).

Professional Kit SP 325
This professional test kit contains all of the tests likely to be encountered by the pool manager or pool services company. Palintest’s new test strips provide a quick and easy method of estimating basic pool and spa chemistry. Simple for the occasional user, the test strips are waved gently in the pool water for 5 seconds and then compared with a colour chart on the bottle after a further 15 seconds. Palintest test strips are available in two varieties, each containing 50 strips per bottle.
