    COURSE CONTEXT

    The study of leadership requires a knowledge and understanding of contemporary leadership theories and

    ideas. This course introduces students to the key issues and concerns of leadership. We will examinesignificant insights on the nature and character of leadership. The course focuses on several questions,beginning with the most fundamental: What is leadership? Students will also consider the various parties

    who participate in leadership, the processes by and through which it is conducted, the conditions whichaffect it, and the ends in service of which it operates. The course also addresses key aspects ofdevelopment as a key component in the advancement of leaders.

    COURSE AIMS

    Understand the concepts, theories, and processes in the study of leadership

    Comprehend the kinds of questions that are relevant to the practice of leadership and ways to engageand respond to these questions

    Recognise the styles, strengths and weaknesses that a leader brings to the leadership process

    Understand the basis of management development as part of the process of capacity building inleadership competence
