Lynch is pleased to announce the launch of its new head office at Hemel Hempstead. A multimillion pound state-of-the-art redevelopment combining office space, workshops, training facilities and much more.

The new office will act as a ‘Super Centre’ for all Lynch plant and hire equipment in London and the South East. The building will also contain a management suite and a control room for plant operations.

Lynch has served London and Home Counties for nearly 40 years, building a strong customer base from the company’s birth in 1980. Led by founder and current Managing Director Liam Lynch, the business is now established as a market leader in plant hire and haulage.

The new premises comprise of fully refurbished offices, conference rooms, staff facilities, large workshops, as well as welfare and training facilities for office staff and plant operators and it will be from here where Lynch will base all its main operations throughout the London and SE area.

Saint George slays the Welsh dragon… again!Lynch hosted a table of 10 for the rugby game England v Wales with a number of clients and our very own foreman operators (Tim Pearce & Tom Law). It’s always a pleasure to take time away from our day jobs and thank our customers for there continued support.

And the English victory made the day even sweeter!

Digging deep in MoorgateLynch Plant Hire has been working hard in Moorgate, London on a huge basement dig with one of our tracked loading shovel. The Cat 953D is a brilliant tool for this type of work being able to move large volumes of material in a very short space of time, feeding the telescopic excavator and lorries above. This machine is not that common in the UK market but Lynch has a very wide range of equipment and skilled operators to meet our customer hire demands.

The 953D is small enough to work in the tight space but strong enough to deliver the performance. The machine has a full range of safety equipment including, green beacons, FOPS, Fire Suppression system, and heavy demolition guards. The 953D had to move 25,000 cube metres of spoil to the loading points. The site had an average of 60 - 80 lorries per day. The materials have been taken to a project in Dartford region. Our client O’Keefe Construction Ltd was given this project in October 2017. The basement is due to be excavated down to 20 metres to support the new underground parking for office and housing development due for completion in 2019.

Lynch ‘rocking on down’ in Rock Lane, HastingsDuring the winter of 2014, excessive rainfall caused a land slip onto the rail track. Emergency works were carried out to clear the line and keep the rail network running. This involved temporary ballast bag walls to hold back any further slides.

Towards the end of 2017 Network Rail appointed Costain to create a permanent solution to the problem. Costain chose Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage to support their project. This involved supplying operated plant, aggregates and muck away.

Ultimately the permanent solution involves creating new drainage routes and creating a sheet piled wall. Being a huge slope there is much work to get to and create a working area to fulfil the works.

Lynch operator Ricky Wooding (above left) has been on site from the start supporting all excavation, drainage and piling works. Ricky is also supporting our apprentice Joe Watts (above right) who is gaining great experience from excavator veteran Ricky. The project is due for completion March/April 2018.

Rushden team rapid response to gas leak emergencyOn Friday 9th March 2018 at 20:30 an emergency call came in from Cadent Gas who were struggling to source an operated excavator. A major gas leak in Rushden meant that the machine and operator were needed on site immediately to deal with the leak. The hard work and dedication of the team, including Andy Burrows, Operations Manager, Jack Foster, Rushden Depot Manager, and Shane White, Rushden Operator, meant that everything was on site by midnight. A fantastic achievement in response to an emergency situation by our hire team in Rushden.

Marathon MenEvery year our principal directors Merrill and Rob Lynch along with their elder brother Darren take on a challenge to raise money for The Lighthouse Club. This charity provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families.

Last year they conquered the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’, raising over £3,000 for this worthy cause in the process. This April they aim to raise even more money for the Charity and the trio will run the London Marathon.

The flow must go on…At Tottenham Hale station, our client Hochtief were faced with a challenging task — to keep the project moving without adding to the congestion of the station.

Lynch Haulage was awarded the contract to remove spoil created by the piling company in order to keep space as optimized as possible. The 900mm round piles being driven 26m deep into the ground which created a whole lot of spoil requiring four of our vehicles on turnaround every day. Lynch plant also supported the piling process by loading the lorries to keep things running smoothly.

When asked, Mark the site manager for Hochtief confirmed that Lynch’s service had been “spot on” since being awarded the work.

‘Grading out’ Sevington SidingsAlthough ‘Control Period 5’ comes to a close, one of the last remaining works packages Costain is finalising is the Sevington Sidings.

Lynch operator Dildar Bhangu has been grading out the area and laying track ballast to prepare for the final inspection by Network Rail.

Our client Costain has been totally knocked out by the quality of the leveling demonstrated by Dill and Steve Poorer, Site Foreman, was very complimentary of his efforts and explained what a skilled operator he has proven to be. So congratulations to Dill on a job well done!

LYNCH PLANT HIRE & HAULAGE — MEETING HIRE DEMANDS

In late 2017 Lynch was contacted by an independent company that focus on potential tax savings for companies that spend time and money on Research & Development (R&D).

Our Alexandra Wilson was tasked with this project and was required to assess any relevant work relating to R&D dating back to 2015. Not only that but there was also a deadline to meet or we would lose out on any potential tax deduction.

Alex set about this momentous task by speaking to many employees within the company to assess what work had been completed, or was still ongoing, that we could be regarded as ‘R&D’. Many meetings were held throughout the company with Alex tirelessly chasing everyone involved, who could add substance to the potential claim.

After creating a base to work from, Alex’s next challenge was to obtain background information for each project to show a justification for the claim. The final obstacle for this project was to gather all the costs relating to R&D work which had been listed in our claim. This was a challenge in itself as you can imagine, going back two years searching for costs and details of any project is tough, especially with the time constraints and the fact that Alex still had her day job to do.

Alex most certainly showed a “Can-Do” attitude with her final draft.

This was sent to our advisors to put our claim together, which was then sent to Alex to proof read prior to final submission to the tax man before the deadline day.

Waiting for an outcome was a very nerve racking time for Alex, especially after doing so much work within a very short time scale. However, a week later it was confirmed that due to Alex’s extraordinary efforts and her ‘Can-Do’ attitude, Lynch as company had been awarded an £117,000 tax deduction.

It is fair to say that Alex must be congratulated on her continuous hard work and endeavour to make a difference, showing her passion and commitment in meeting Lynch’s company values.

So if you are working on anything that you believe could be deemed as Research & Development please let Alex know for next year.

Meet the Team: Liam MooreThis month we look at Liam Moore, who grew up around construction equipment.

Both Liam’s grandfathers and great grandfathers worked in the quarries of Portland, Dorset, mining for the beautiful and coveted stone. Plus his father made a name for himself within the industry, running a very successful construction business.

After leaving college Liam had a very successful career working for Mainline Pictures. However at the age of 22 he decided he wanted to get stuck into construction and follow in his father’s footsteps.

After paying for and passing his 360-excavator ticket he spent the next five years working across the country operating heavy demolition and at the same time quickly gaining a range of CPCS tickets.

Once married and starting a family, Liam decided to focus on working in the City of London on several major projects, including the Overground

extension at Surrey Quays, Stratford International Station, and the development of Borough Market. Rising through the ranks, first as a Demolition Supervisor and then as Site Manager, he joined Lynch Plant Hire in 2011 where, drawing on his operator experience, he was responsible for launching and running the attachments division of the company.

Outside of work Liam has always been a keen and avid volunteer of St John Ambulance and six years ago gained his teaching qualification to teach his life saving skills to others.

In 2013 Liam helped launch a new training Division for Lynch Plant Hire with the objective of improving operator’s skill sets as well as helping them through difficult times

and giving them the support they needed to essentially survive the industry.

Liam himself has worked his way around the business in order to achieve a better all-round skill set. Positions held include those in Service, on the Hire Desk, Training and National Operator Manager.

He was also instrumental in setting up the Lynch Apprenticeship scheme as well as the recruitment of candidates and remains as passionate and vocal today about the need and the demand for construction apprenticeships.

Research & Development — paying dividends!

Back in the summer of 2015 Lynch launched the ‘Meeting Hire Demands’ recognition award.

Since then Lynch has very proudly awarded over thirty operators for bringing an outstanding work ethic and skill set to many of our major projects.

The dedication shown by our operators when on site is vital to the success of Lynch Plant, and in honour of such dedication we are going back to when it all began.

Once again, a big thank you to all operators both past and present.
