This course provides training and supervision for students assisting in teaching undergraduate psychology courses. Please note this is a 2-credit Satisfactory/Fail class which does not fulfill any requirements for the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department. Become a Biology Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA)

An Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) in the Department of Biology is a junior or senior who assists faculty, laboratory coordinators, and Associate Instructors with the teaching mission. Various kinds of UTA positions exist, including some positions involving work with collaborative learning groups in large enrollment lecture courses, such as L112 Biological Mechanisms, L211 Molecular Biology, L111 Evolution and Diversity, and L311 Genetics. In these courses, UTAs help to create a small class atmosphere inside a large course.

Students interested in graduate school, careers in teaching, and/or any career involving managing people will be able to explore these careers through being a Chemistry Associate Instructor. A Chemistry Associate Instructor (CAI) intern in the Department of Chemistry is a junior or senior who assists faculty with the teaching mission of the department. These assignments may be made to assist in a discussion or laboratory section of a course. In addition, CAIs will have proctoring assignments for exams and/or administering teaching evaluations during the semester.

Teaching Internship Grants last one semester and should provide the student with a faculty supervised teaching experience in a college level course. Internships should be designed to enable students to gain some teaching experience as well as familiarize them with the range of activities engaged in by college instructors. Interns work in a variety of programs at the SAC designed to assist other undergraduates. Some interns work with the more difficult courses on campus (such as Microeconomics, Finite Mathematics, and others) and lead PASS study sessions, while others work with the SAC course EDUC-X156 “College and Lifelong Learning” and meet one-on-one with students who are having some academic difficulty. All interns meet in weekly training meetings, get feedback on their impact, and learn valuable interpersonal and leadership skills.

The Student Academic Center employs undergraduate Teaching Interns (TIs) every semester. Interns are able to work multiple semesters consecutively, provided they continue to meet the criteria for the program. Applications are accepted at any time. Interns work in a variety of programs at the SAC designed to assist other undergraduates. Some interns work with the more difficult courses on campus (such as Microeconomics, Finite Mathematics, and others) and lead PASS study sessions, while others work with the SAC course EDUC-X156 “College and Lifelong Learning” and meet one-on-one with students who are having some academic difficulty.

Teaching Internship Grants last one semester and should provide the student with a faculty supervised teaching experience in a college level course. These grants are mainly for students who have an interest in becoming college or university faculty and who would like to learn about the activities associated with that occupation.
