  • SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on purchasing one of the best cable handling trailers on the market. This manual has been prepared to acquaint you with the LARSON CABLE TRAILER (LCT) and its maintenance, setup and operation, and transport. There is important safety information that both you and others operating the trailer must know. Please give your full attention to safety.

Here at LARSON, we have been burying cable for over 39 years. Several years ago we started burying fiber. This was a whole new ball game since fiber cant be cut and spliced when obstacles are met. We initially designed a figure-8 machine and reel winder on our caterpillar. When we came to an obstacle (oil road, shallow cables, etc.) our plow and entire crew were left unwinding and rewinding cable off and onto the cable plow. Efficiency was very poor.

We looked everywhere for a trailer capable of figure-eighting and rewinding. Most, if not all, cable trailers we found were frame-mounted directly to the axle, slowing transport. Also, there wasnt a cable trailer that had a bed or reel turner rugged enough for our needs and adaptable to different sized reels.

We built the LCT 5600 cable trailer to meet our needs.. A LCT 5700 model is also available. This trailer is a stripped-down version of the LCT 5600. These trailers will save you time and manpower to bury cable in new and more efficient ways.

When it comes to service, remember that your LARSON dealer knows your trailer best and is interested in your complete satisfaction. Your dealer invites you to return to him for all of your service needs both during and after the warranty period.

WARNING! Failure to read and understand the safe operation of this trailer could lead to serious personal injury or death. If you do not understand the instructions in this manual, contact your LARSON dealer.

This is a SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL and indicates important safety messages in this manual. When you see this symbol, be alert to the possibility of PERSONAL INJURY.

Always store this manual with the trailer for future reference.

  • SECTION 2: GENERAL INFORMATION AND DESCRIPTION

The LCT 5600 has an overall length of 14 feet with a 5 ft. by 6 ft. treated-wood flatbed for hauling small equipment and needed tools to a job site. The trailer will lift 5500 lb. reels of various sizes or haul a mini-excavator, basements, pads, boxes, anodes, and other materials to a job site at 65-75 miles per hour. The hydraulic system has a flow rate of 9 gallon rpm at 2000 psi, powered by a 13 hp Honda engine. This allows the LCT to figure-8 and rewind cable at a rate of 500 ft. rpm. The reel turner rack is powered by an orbital motor operated from a control panel. The control panel swings 180 allowing the user to efficiently operate the hydraulic system. The hydraulic lifting rack makes loading and unloading a one-man operation.

In addition, a dumpster attachment is available for the trailer which will handle two yards of dirt or gravel enabling the back-fill of holes much more quickly and efficiently. Also, the dumpster can be used to haul away cement, excess dirt, tree roots, etc.

A level winding device is also available with the LCT 5600. This works well and is much safer when retiring overhead electric wires or communication cables.

A LCT 5700 model is also available from LARSON CABLE TRAILERS. This trailer is a stripped-down version of the LCT 5600. It has no figure-eighting capabilities and no reel-turning rack assembly. It does have a hydraulic lift (5500 lbs.) that operates by electric motor and comes with a deep cycle marine battery. It includes a push-button control with a 15-ft. cord allowing the operator to stand by the reel when loading. Standard on the LCT 5700 are a 7 ft. treated-wood deck, 2 loading ramps, an arbor, and extra arbor hooks located on the back of the lifting arms. These extra hooks and a second arbor (not included) enable the trailer to lift and carry 4 of the small overhead wire reels for stringing out 3-phase power or two medium size reels for single phase power.

  • SECTION 3: STARTING AND OPERATION

Your trailer is equipped with many standard features, and may be equipped with optional accessories, and will require your full understanding of proper operating procedures. This particular manual will cover most, but not all of these features. A separate owners manual for the Honda engine is provided with your trailer. Be certain you have full working knowledge of all features, and contact your dealer or the manufacture should you have questions or incomplete knowledge of your vehicles operation.
