Also to her credit is the title of Miss photogenic. There were 27 contestants and 3 different contests held. of the three, Janette took two titles, Miss Photogenic and Miss Calle Ocho. "I didn't think I was going to win. I thoughtit would be more like a learning ex_ perience. Of course, I wanted, like everyone else, to win but i didn't think I would," said Miss Calle Ocho. Along with the titles are dq1je,s. "I represent the Hispanic community and therefore, I haveto seta good example for other people to follow and represent the community as best as I can. I also have to make a lot of speeches," add- ed Janette. Janette likes to spend her spare time with boyfriend Ricky Alvarez, a senior at So-uth Miami, and instructing ballet at Miami-Dade's South Campus. She also enjoys several hobbies which include jazz, modern dance, ,karate, Spanish dance, piano and modeling. Janette's future goal is to becomea nurse.

Mrs. Jeanne Phillips, theirspecial instructor in theschool, answers with apositive statement: "Yes, Ithink that the student body iscompletely aware of outhearing impaired students,and in spite of their naturaltendency to associate withothers of their kind, I believethey are very well integratedin our community."

One aspect of the programis a contract between parentsand teens. If the teen has beendrinking he or she can call theparents and arrange to bepicked up.
