VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FULL SCALE EMERGENCY EXERCISE

AT RICKENBACKER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) will hold a Full Scale Emergency Exercise on Thursday, June 20, 2013.

This exercise is an essential program designed to test and evaluate the emergency plans and responses of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, first responders, hospitals, community non-profits, and other local emergency preparedness organizations in the event of a large plane crash.

Volunteer actors play a significant role in the exercise, and are needed to portray accident victims and worried family members of accident victims. Select volunteers will be moulaged (made up in Hollywood style makeup to reflect injuries). A significant number of Spanish-speaking volunteers are also desired for this exercise. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age unless approved by the Exercise Director.

All volunteers will report to the main terminal at LCK (2241 John Circle Drive, Columbus, OH 43217) at 7 AM on Thursday, June 20th. While at the airport, volunteers will be processed through a Volunteer Reception Center to receive assignments, moulage, safety instructions, and additional information. After exercise play begins on the runway, volunteers will be triaged and transferred to a participating hospital either by EMS, MedFlight, or COTA bus. All volunteers will return to LCK at the end of the day. Volunteers can expect to be released from the exercise at some point between 1 PM and 3 PM.

If you’d like to volunteer for the event, you may do so by visiting http://bit.ly/LCKexercise2013 .This link will take you to a Go To Webinar registration page. When you register, you’ll be signed up for two events: the exercise on June 20th, as well as the Actor Briefing which will take place on Monday, June 17th from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM via Go To Webinar.

We do ask that a firm commitment be made. Registration will be cut off once 230 volunteers have registered, and a waiting list will then be started. If you find that you will not be able to volunteer for the exercise, we ask that you contact Shaddy Swade ([email protected]), Lead Volunteer Controller, to withdraw.

We thank you for your time/consideration, and look forward to seeing you – rain or shine.
