LBP NEWS for June 5 2016
LBP PICNIC
Thank you to all students, parents, and staff who were able to attend
our LBP Annual Family Picnic at LBP! We had outstanding weather,
and a good time by all. On behalf of everyone in attendance, we
wish to extend our most sincere gratitude to our incredible Picnic
organizing committee, parent volunteers and the Aurora Tigers! It
was a great success, thank you!
Not Returning in the Fall?
If you already know that your child will be changing schools in the Fall, please let us
know by phoning the school or advising your child’s teacher in writing. This would really assist us in our plans for the upcoming school year.
Medications
Please remind your child to pick up his/her Epi-Pen, puffer or prescription medication from the office on June 29th. If your child is not planning to attend on that day, remind them to pick it up on their last day. Any medication not picked up will be disposed of.
Student Agenda Planners
The Lester B. Pearson Student Agenda Planner is an important learning tool for students in grades 3-8 and will be on sale in September for all students at a cost-recovery price. In addition to helping students develop their organizational and time management skills, the agenda is a valuable document that is used regularly to promote parent/teacher, parent/child and parent/school communication. The planner cover is a sturdy plastic and has been three-hole punched so that it can fit neatly into a binder or duotang. Each agenda book will have a clear page (pouch) into which students can insert notices, letters. We strongly encourage all students to purchase the school agenda in September. Keep your eyes open for the order form coming your way in the Fall. CASH ONLINE
Bussing Information
Parents are reminded to check the web site www.schoolbuscity.com where they can look up information based on their home address. Parents are reminded to check this web-site every year late in August and even to do a final check on the Labour Day weekend to see if there have been any adjustments made to the pick-up/drop-off time of their child’s bus. Please inform the office as soon as you know what your confirmed after school childcare arrangements are (child taking a bus home, going to the Before and After School program at LBP, walking, being picked up by a parent). Thank you!
School Lunch Assistants Needed for September 2016
We are in need of Lunch Assistants for the 2016/2017 school year. This is a paid position from 12:55a.m. to 1:55 p.m. We are looking for people who can work anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week. Parents or community members who are interested in being considered for a position are asked to contact Mme Hamou at the school (905) 841-3030 prior to the end of June. York Region District School Board requires all school lunch assistants to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening through the York Regional Police.
Volunteers in Schools
Parents who anticipate offering to volunteer on school field trips in 2016-2017 are advised to get a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) background check completed during the summer months via the York Regional Police as the wait time is lengthy during peak times during the school year. Parents planning to get a VSS require a letter from the school to present to the YRP as part of the process. Parents who have already provided the school with a vulnerable sector screening certificate this year are required again in the Fall to complete an Annual Offence Declaration form and Confidentiality Agreement available in the school office. The Annual Offence Declaration form requires that volunteers list any convictions for offences under the Criminal Records Act (Canada) up to the date of the declaration. A volunteer signs a Confidentiality Agreement to indicate his/her consent to keep confidential any information related to the staff and/or students in the school.

Round of Applause for our School Council and Many Parent Volunteers!
We wish to extend our gratitude to all members of the 2015-16 Lester B. Pearson School Council for their contribution to making LBP the wonderful school it is. This wonderful group of parents ensures that decisions are reached to meet the best interest of each and every student in our school. We applaud the many parent volunteers who have helped to support the Council’s initiatives including our pizza and Greek lunch programs, the parent engagement evening (Anxiety), LBP June Picnic, our parent-led lunchtime clubs, special programs (dance/skating/curling) and GROW Interactive, trip chaperones and parents who have supported classroom programs such as Scientists in Schools. We thank our over 200 parent volunteers for their gift of time to support the school!
Message from our Trustee Peter Adams-Luchowski
As the school year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for all that you have done to help make
this school year a successful one for our students.
We share a common goal - to give our young people every opportunity to reach their full potential,
and we all have a role to play in supporting that goal. However you choose to get involved, your
engagement and support make a difference. We know that good schools become better schools when
they are connected with families.
Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our students, families, staff members and community partners, we
are creating a welcoming, caring and inclusive learning environment that fosters student achievement
and well-being.
As we move into summer, I encourage you to seek out opportunities to continue and complement the
learning that takes place throughout the school year. That could mean taking a nature walk, visiting a
museum or reading a book. Whatever your plans are over the next few months, I hope you have a
safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer.
TALENT SHOW NEWS
We are looking forward to seeing all the talent that LBP has to offer. Unfortunately,
we can't have all auditioning students move on to the talent show. Numbers will be
selected based on their originality and the quality of the performance/audition. All
grades will be represented (3 to 4 numbers per grade) and a variety of performances
will be selected. Thank you for respecting the Talent Show Committee's choices.
Once performers have been selected, a list will be posted by the office, an
announcement will be made and only those selected will receive a confirmation notice
with further details.
We hope to see you on Tuesday, June 21st at the Talent Show! :)
