Proposed edge tests

• Should be run very soon (Oct/Nov)– Southampton – UNINETT

• Via MAN, JANET, GÉANT, NORDUnet, UNINETT

– DSCP transparency end-to-end• Apply policy at edges

– Contention on router at edge/access networks• Cisco router at UoS• Limit interface to 10Mbit/s• Use Stig’s FTP server patch for LBE• Question over best measurement tool(s)

– Aim to integrate results into full QOS-2003 paper• Notification of acceptance by Nov 20th

LBE scenario discussion

• Where might we use LBE first?– (implied usage of TCP not UDP!)– Bulk data transfer (GRID)– Data mirrors, FTP servers– Separating production and test traffic– Support of new transport protocols (TCP tuning)– Student dormitory networks (enforced)– Remote network backups– Non-disruptive available bandwidth measure?– Others? Where is the real congestion?

• Possibility to run IPv6 LBE in 6NET WP4
