email from Len and Sue Slaney. It was so warm and heartfelt that we wanted to share it with all our residents.

To our American friends I want to wish all of you a beautiful 4th of July! We Canadians, who have been blessed to winter in your country, have adopted the USA as our second home. We have come to love your homeland, love your flag and most of all love you, the American people.

Lazy Days Shuffleboard Players all winners in the Canadian Interprovincial Tournament

The Canadian National Shuffleboard Association sponsors an Interprovincial Tournament every second year. This year, the tournament was held in Ingersoll, Ontario. In 2021 it will be held in Quebec City.

HURRICANE PRECAUTIONS

Some of the same tips for closing your home for the summer apply to getting ready for a hurricane:

1. If you evacuate: Make sure the office has a correct ADDRESS,

PHONE and EMAIL where you will be staying; leave a set of keys at the office if you want to do so. (See more tips below)

2. If you leave air on, set it at 80-90° and put fresh batteries in your thermostat. If you have a humidistat, set it at 65°.

3. Put away ALL OUTSIDE ITEMS, including umbrella-type clotheslines. Small items become missiles in a storm.

4. Unplug all electrical devises.5. Make sure smoke alarms are working and have

fresh batteries.6. Turn your refrigerator/freezer off.7. Turn water off.8. Turn water heater off.9. Close and lock all windows and doors.10. Lower your awnings securely. If you need

assistance, let the office know and someone will give you a helping hand.

11. Take enough non-perishable food and water with you for at least 5 days. Don’t forget pet food and water.

12. Have photo I.D. showing Lazy Days address with you when you return, as the authorities may not let you into the park if there is major damage, such as power lines down, etc.

IX. PETS/ANIMALS 4. Pets/animals must be on a leash no more than 6

feet in length (Lee County Law) and under control at all times when outdoors. They must be walked on PAVED STREETS OR COMMON AREAS ONLY.

X. VEHICLES, TRAFFIC AND TRAILERS6. There shall be no parking in the street overnight. 7. Parking on the grass and vacant lots is not permitted.

XII. MAIL 1. Owners are to maintain their own mailboxes and

posts.

Note: Our mailboxes are one of the first things that visitors see. Some of ours are quite unsightly. Please take a few minutes to clean your mailbox.

HOW DOES YOUR HOME LOOK? Please take a little time to look at your property. Many

of our homes are in desperate need of power washing, as well as awnings and trim painting. If you have received a letter regarding this, please do so before a fining process is imposed. No one wants to do that. If you did not receive a letter, please be proactive as we all want to be proud of our beautiful community.

1. Make a mental (or even better, physical) note of all the most important items (don’t forget documents) that you need to take with you in case of an evacuation and have a strategy for transporting them. This includes medication and pets.

COMPUTER TRAINING

Is there anyone in the village who would be willing to do a little computer training? We have had requests from some of your neighbors who would like to learn more. We envision a one hour session for a few weeks. It could be hands on or a tutorial with “homework” for the students to work on during the week. Learn about Word, Excel, Facebook, emailing, downloading pictures, etc. or whatever the situations call for.

If you think this something you would like to offer, please let the ROLDI Activities Committee know and we will work out a schedule. Thanks.

LABOR DAY POTLUCKIt’s not too early to plan for the Labor Day Potluck on

September 2nd. ROLDI will again be serving chicken, but there will not be hamburgers and hotdogs this time. Bring your place settings and a dish to pass. Guests are welcome for $5.00 payable at the door. Sign-up sheets will go up about the second week in August.
