Rawat. “The RBI cannot afford to intervene as India's foreign exchange reserves are not very huge. However, the RBI's statement that it will not intervene could best have been avoided to curb speculation.” The rupee has depreciated against major currencies in the past three months. Against the US dollar, it has tumbled from 43-44 to 50-52. This has made oil imports costlier. Even if crude oil prices fall globally, the landed cost of oil in India will be much higher. Since most Indian imports are in US dollar, imported raw material for all industries will get costlier, said Mr Rawat. Import-intensive industries like automobiles, capital goods and IT hardware may be particularly hit. But globally, this is a period of great uncertainty and there are very few countries whose macro is said to be very strong. Small changes in market-determined factors are not surprising in this environment. “India's macro story is very strong. There are concerns about sticky inflation and the fiscal deficit but the government is working quite hard to try to manage,” said Mr Rawat. Limbavali. Municipal Waste to Generate PowerBangalore: Bangalore seeks Israel's WATEC 2011 to address the city's civic woes. The Deputy Mayor of Bangalore and his team attended the demonstration of the innovative technology related to water, sewage, renewable and solid waste. The advantages of this technology are that it produces renewable energy from organic waste, lowers the effect of climate change

caused by methane. The municipal waste is entitled to 7—90 % of carbon credit and is envi ronmenta l ly f r iendly minimizing pollution caused by landfills. The deputy mayor expressed his desire to bring in the Israeli firm that could provide its engineering services here. The Arrow ecology from Israel is likely to visit Bangalore soon to take up the project further and find the right location for operations.
