DSDN 244 Assignment Three

The main paradigm was to try and create a layered medium, that best showed the tonal layers that multiple exposed images have, in a form that ex-pressed it in a three dimensional reality.

The remediation was done in stages that created an aesthetic that could push a two dimensional realm into a three dimensional reality. The first stage was to digitize the cross processed negatives, through basic Photoshop principles. The next was to separate out the colours from the

tones and limit the tones down to a countable number, through Illustrator with its great handling of vector geometry. This final key stage was to separate the tones and then raster it through the laser cutter. It has to be noted that the ‘creamer’ tones that are closer to white would be the hardest to raster. The outcome was more successful than anticipated

where an almost abstract remediation of film was created. The final ‘product’, as it were, has certain applications when it comes to lighting and cladding fixtures. Products like glazed glass and table tops can use

the engraving technique to master light through layering. If done in a certain way, the layering can be used to establish actual forms encompassed and constructed through the layering. This technique creates a highly stunning aesthetic that could be used to control lighting in many different situations.
