Lawrence Berkeley Nat'l Lab - Building

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Building 2 is one of many LBNL
buildings worked on by Taylor Engineering. Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory holds thirteen Nobel prizes, making it one of the most prestigious
labs in the national laboratory system. The original building dates back to
1986. The move of new departments with high energy consumption and
cooling requirements, such as laser research, resulted in a variety of retrofits
to maintain building conditions for new tenants. Thus, this project required
the retrofit of an existing laboratory with an outdated control system to match
the campus regulations for laboratory pressure and fume hood control.
HVAC in this lab consists of a central chilled water plant with 3 chillers,
distribution to terminals with zone-level heating and cooling coils, and
dedicated lab exhaust stacks. Lab areas are also pressurized with either
constant volume or variable volume fume hoods.
Investigative studies (2007);
Retrocommisioning of existing
HVAC sytems and controls
(2009); Commissioning of new
Air Handling Units (2009). Design
of heat recovery system for
space heating. Comissioning of
new boilers (2010). Design and
commissioining of chilled water
plant upgrade and upgreade for
house AHUs (2012). Design of a
laser lab (2012)
