Welcome to our 2015 Law catalogue. We are delighted to announce the new Encounters in Law and Philosophy series, and its inaugural volume STASIS: Civil War as a Political Paradigm by the internationally renowned philosopher Giorgio Agamben (page 4). The series will explore what happens to the claims of law when it engages with continental philosophy.

2014 was a significant year for us – we acquired the excellent legal list from Dundee University Press and have been busy re-editioning key legal textbooks such as Scots Criminal Law by Pamela Ferguson and Claire MacDiarmid (page 20). We have rebranded the Dundee Law Essentials series – these iconic introductory textbooks are now Edinburgh Law Essentials and we hope you like the new cover design. Look out for Private International Law by David Hill and the third edition of Scottish Family Law by Kenneth Norrie (page 26).

We are also continuing our dedication to scholarly excellence in legal publishing with the respected Edinburgh Studies in Law series (page 10). 2015 will see the publication of a new comparative collection, Trusts and Patrimonies edited by Remus Valsan, and a two-volume set of the most-cited articles by John W. Cairns.

So expect to see some exciting legal publishing from Edinburgh in Scots law, legal history and philosophy, and fast-moving areas such as environmental law, business law and law and technology.

Giorgio Agamben investigates the ongoing warfare that European state power has been waging against its most malignant enemy: civil war itself.
