CMS/CDC Approves Ozone
January 25, 2013 CMS issued Interpretive Guidance on 42 CFR
§483.65(C)
Ozone cleaning systems. Ozone laundry cleaning systems are relatively
new. The CMS in collaboration with the CDC has determined that ozone
cleaning systems are acceptable methods of processing laundry.

TYPES OF SYSTEMS
• Ultraviolet
• Charge or Tank System
• Bubble-up
• Direct Injection
• Diffusion with Variable Ozone and
Interfusor
DIRECT INJECT SYSTEM
10
• This system has an injector in the washer fill line.
• The injector could be on the wall at each washer, or could be one common injector.
• This system uses the injector’s vacuum to pull the ozone from the generator into the water.
• Ozone is dispensed largely undissolved .
• The Ozone demand is still not known and cannot be adjusted for.
cold water line
Direct Inject System with Bells and Whistles
11
One common injector into a manifold PVC with a four inch scrubber.
This system uses an ORP sensor to tell you the generator is working. The ozone is degassed by increasing the size of the manifold relieving pressure. The excess ozone is vented and destroyed via an ozone destruct.
As with all Venturi systems, it’s a predetermined amount of Ozone being delivered.

Advance Ozone Systems
14
Direct Injection
•Ozone output varies to meet soil, soap and water conditions •Allows high ozone output during wash process (when its needed) •Maintains ozone level to guarantee “bug” kill •Off gas is controlled per washer with redundant room monitor •Installs quick and easy •Minimal room required •Service is simple and convenient
Advance Ozone Systems
15
DISSOLVED OZONE SYSTEM
•Ozone is introduced into a PVC plumbing system via a venturi injection •Off gas is controlled with an off gas ozone destruct •Typically wall mounted •Minimal room required •One Generator per laundry room
Maintaining the correct ozone levels is critical to success!

Ozone Laundry System Incentives
26
Unit Incentive = $30/lb. (total load capacity)
Eligibility Criteria
• To be added to a new or existing conventional commercial washing machine system using hot water heated with natural gas
• Each new system must serve a total load capacity of 100-400 lbs • New ozone laundry system must transfer ozone into the water through venturi
injection or bubble infusion
