Grading Categories Explained:

• Tests and 5ro"ects (,*2:

Tests are given fre&uently+ at the end of -cce #mani chapters or course units. 6raded tests

are returned in class! and then kept on file in the classroom. Students may not re+take tests butmay make corrections to previously graded tests outside of class time. A corrected answer

will be awarded partial points. 7s. 8ilner+9eutsch is happy to help students study after

school in room A/-3! "ust ask

A pro"ect is assigned each &uarter. ubrics for pro"ects will be distributed and discussed when

assigned. 5ro"ects may include: comics! picture books! research papers! posters! skits and

other individual and group products and activities. The grade weight of a particular pro"ectwill depend upon its comple$ity and length. Some pro"ects may count toward the test

category A;9 classwork and participation. Late pro"ects will not be given full credit.

• 1ui%%es (,-2 :

1ui%%es on current matters of instruction should be e$pected often. 1ui%%es are usually given

on vocabulary! noun declension and verb con"ugation charts! etc. E$pect some type of test or

&ui% at least once during each <+day cycle= fre&uent assessment is very important in a foreignlanguage #orrections will not be allowed on &ui%%es. Students should make use of flash

cards (there are some great smart phone programs out there to help them study.

• 'omework (/-2 :

Appro$imately ,- minutes of home study is e$pected daily. 'omework is due at the

beginning of the ne$t class period unless specifically noted otherwise. The teacher will either

collect homework or go over the answers in class. (Sometimes both 'omework is usuallygraded on completion and effort but may sometimes be graded for accuracy.

Assignments include! but are not limited to: grammar e$ercises and translations! vocabulary

study! review of class notes! preparation of pro"ects! and other practice in the skills taught inclass. A written homework assignment must be retained in the student>s Latin notebook for

later review and study.

 Late o"e$or% $ill recei&e at "ost al' cre(it i' co")lete( be'ore te ne*t test.

 +o"e$or% co)ie( 'ro" a class"ate, te internet, or oter sources $ill recei&e no cre(it.

• #lasswork and 5articipation ()*2 :

#lasswork will be assigned as a warm up each class period! or for review at the end of class.

#lasswork is similar to homework in that students will be graded mostly on effort rather than

mastery of the concepts. #lasswork is a great opportunity for students to ask &uestions before

trying to work more independently at home.

5articipation in class is a key ingredient to success in this course. Language learning is asocial activity and students will often work together in class to learn the re&uired vocabulary

and to read Latin passages. 7s. 8ilner+9eutsch knows that some people are naturally louder

and more outgoing than others! but this classroom is a place where every student will have achance to develop leadership skills! and to become confident at contributing in class.
