Leading residential agency,Hamptons Internationalannounced today that ithas raised over £28,000 for
Cancer Research UK this summer.The Hamptons International
Grand Prize Draw, participation inthe Vitality British 10k London Runand two separate auctions for VIPsporting experiences allcontributed toward thisphenomenal fundraising total.
The Hamptons InternationalGrand Prize Draw which took placethroughout the month of July wasopen to customers, colleagues andfriends. An impressive line-up ofprizes was sourced by branchesand teams throughout theHamptons International network,with over £12,000 raised for CancerResearch UK. Prizes included aweek’s stay in the French ski resortof Chamonix, a suite at the O2arena to watch the ATP tennis, aframed and signed Didier Drogbafootball shirt and a Burberry
handbag. Overnight hotel stays,VIP concert tickets, spa days, LandRover and Aston Martin drivingexperiences, dining and gourmetgifts and much more besides wereall also up for grabs.
Aside from the Grand Prize
Draw, nearly 50 members of stafftook part in the Vitality British 10kLondon Run in July, also raisingover £12,000 for the charity.
Other fundraising activityincluded two auctions; the first to
win a pair of debenture tickets fora day at Wimbledon and thesecond for two people to join SirIan Botham in his private box towatch an England vs. AustraliaAshes Test match. Together, theseraised nearly £5,000.

The statue of QueenVictoria at the footof Grand Avenue inHove was erected as
a celebration of herDiamond Jubilee of 1897. Itwas unveiled in 1901, afterher death, which meant thatwreaths were placed aroundthe covered statue prior toits exposure.
The project was carriedout by Thomas Brock, afamous sculptor whoseprevious work included therelief of the widowed QueenVictoria on coins from 1893-1901. Brock became ‘SirThomas’ when he wasknighted, apparently on thespot by King Edward VII,following the completion ofthe huge Victoria memorialin front of Buckingham Palace.
I met Bob Colwell and Alan Craig of London-based PAYE Conservation(whose previous projects include work at St Pancras Station, WindsorCastle and Cliveden House) who had just finished pressure-washing theentire structure. The application of wax is all that was left to do. Ascaffold was a greatopportunity for photographs.
At two levels up, it is clearthat many features exist onthe statue that are not easilyspotted from below. InQueen Victoria’s left hand isan orb that is topped by awinged figure denotingvictory which bears apassing resemblance to thenearby Peace Statue (also inthe process of being cleanedincidentally). In the otherhand is a sceptre.
The statue is made ofbronze and its plinth ofgranite and marble. Eachside of the plinth features aninlaid bronze tablet withScience and Art, Education,Empire and Commercerepresented to the north,east, south and westrespectively.
It won’t be long beforemaquettes of the threewinning designs for theproposed new Hove Plinth,intended for the promenadenearby, are released. ThisHove Civic Society initiativehas attracted nothing butquality entrants. Standards in the area were already high after all.www.buildingopinions.com

This week I'm onholiday with myyoung family andtoday we took a
cable car up to 1,600metres high in the FrenchAlps. We enjoyedspectacular views ofsnow cappedmountainstouching the skyand the towns inthe valleysbelow. My kidsloved theexcitement of theride on the cablecar, and we allloved the views;"wow" they said!My trip today hadmany parallels with the i360 experience: On the i360 you will journey upinto the sky in a "vertical cable car" and enjoy breathtaking views ofnatural beauty (the Downs, chalk cliffs and sea). Even the cable car werode on today was made by Poma, the company building the i360.
The architects of the i360 and London Eye (David Marks and JuliaBarfield) have described the vision for the i360 as, "there is a universaldesire to get up high to enjoy a good view" and I couldn't agree more.
Whenever I go to a new city, my first port of call as a tourist is alwaysto go to the place to see the best views. Some of my personal favouriteshave been the cable car up Table Mountain in Cape Town or cable carto Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio de Janiero.
Like the i360 these experiences combine a ride to heights with viewsof natural beauty, the sea and a city.
Closer to home, in six years of working at the London Eye and around500 rides, I never got tired of the views or the thrill of riding up so high.My favourite time was to go up in the evenings for a champagne ride,and this was the inspiration for the i360 Sky Bar. My most memorableride was a Concorde fly past to celebrate the Golden Jubilee.
My kids also love the Spinnaker, especially the glass floor, and theEmirates cable car between the O2 and Royal Docks.

From bungalows and buy-to-let flats to a formerbuilder's yard and gardennursery, properties and
development land across Sussexare to go under the auctioneer'shammer this month.
They are among the 25 latestlots in the county being sold byregional land and propertyauctioneers Clive Emson.
Starting at 11am, the auctiontakes place at the Hilton BrightonMetropole, on Thursday,September 17.
Richard Payne, auctioneer, said:"Buy-to-let continues to appeal toinvestors in Britain's record-lowinterest rate environment, as doescompetitively-priced family homesand commercial property.
"According to figures from theHomeLet Rental Index, the averagerent in the South-East in the threemonths up to May 2015 was £940,with average rental values up 9.4per cent."
Two detached houses, withplanning permission for ten flatsfollowing demolition, have afreehold guide price of £480-520,000 and are at 45 and 47Barnhorn Road, Bexhill.
It's not every day you get theopportunity to own your ownroad, but that's exactly what's onoffer in Peacehaven. Guidedfreehold at £35-45,000, WheatlandClose, Telscombe Cliffs, is a cul-de-sac with an adjoining pieceof land.
Richard said: "This is the firsttime a private road has come upfor sale locally with us in manyyears and we anticipate keeninterest from bidders. Youwouldn't be able to put up a tollbut it's certainly a talking pointwhen you have the neighboursover to dinner."

Tips not declared to HMRC andloss of employment rights
A café worker in Scotland had hisemployment tribunal claim struckout due to the failure to declaretips he had earned to HMRC.The worker had been sacked andhe wanted to claim unfairdismissal.
Some of the tips were declaredon the payslip, but there was asystem in place whereby less wasdeclared than was actuallyearned.
Although many people pay bydebit or credit card, some cashtransactions still take place; andsome people will pay by card andtip in cash.
HMRC say that all tips andgratuities received by taxi drivers,postmen, hairdressers, waiters,etc., in respect of services theyhave provided are taxable as
earnings. They must therefore bedeclared. HMRC says it needs to beinformed as soon as possible if youhave made money you need to paytax on.
This could have happenedbecause you:
did not realise you needed to tellHMRC about it;
were not sure how to declare it;
or did not declare it because youcould not pay.
HMRC says that if you contact itfirst, it may consider your casemore favourably.
Undeclared income can result inpenalties and criminal prosecution.

There is therefore a potential forunscrupulous employers to havetheir employees agree to someform of illegal or immoral act fromwhich they appear to benefit (suchas payments without properdeductions) and then to rely uponthat illegal act to defeat any claimthe employee tries to bring.
