Nurses, manager at warBy Thapelo Masilela

Nursing sisters at the Dilopye Clinic, near Hammanskraal, allege

that the facility manager is autocratic in that she does not listen to anyone and her word is final.

It has emerged that she wily- nil imposed herself in controlling the “Nursing Study Leave Committee,” thus victimising applicants who do not adhere to her “dictatorship” by not recommending staff for study leave and allegedly only approves her “friends” applications.

A nursing sister who did not want to be identified said; “The facility manager always abuses the official state vehicle for her own private purposes.

FOR INSTANCE SHE would send a nurse to the Regional Office to collect medicine that is not needed therefore combining the trip with her private errands.

“If I fail to adhere to her demands, she would threaten me that she would cut me off from the list of people who were recommended to go for training. I had no courage or alternative to challenge her victimisation and oppression because our labour relations people only listen to the managers. If we complain to them, we never get answers,” she said.

“According to official systems in place, the study leave committee should be in control, but at the facility manager interferes and bosses every one. She abuses the study privileges by making sure that it is her favourites who benefit, but her enemies are penalised”, said the nursing sister.

She added; “I would have spoiled my nursing career by assaulting the facility manager. Two other nursing professionals

have left already. I will be the third to leave in recent times and more are still going to follow suit.”

Another nursing sister, accused the facility manager of abusing the official state vehicle under the pretext that she was going to collect drugs at the regional office, the store room is often fully packed with supply and some action was needed to deplete old supplies to make space for new drugs.

“The simple rule is that the clinic should not order more medicine than it would use. If there is some over stock, it should be returned to the regional office so that it can be sent to other clinics where they experience shortages.

“The facility manager could do neither of the alternatives just mentioned. She resorts to the corrupt action of destroying drugs. A person in his sound mind cannot keep stock until it expires. No normal person can do that.

“She orders drugs which are not necessary and instructs some staff members to destroy the extra drugs. If the staff

members defy her, she threatens to deny them the opportunity to get study leave,” she said.

Another aggrieved nursing sister said the Extended Public Works Programme (EWP) personnel were not exonerated from the facility manager’s ire.

“They are not treated with respect by the clinic manager. She fires them from work at random, claiming that they do not abide by her instructions,” she said.

The nursing sister further revealed that the staff had lodged their grievance with the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa); “highlighting the fact that Pitse seems to have a psychological problem and needs help.”

Mr. Thomas Chauke, Provincial Organiser for Denosa, confirmed that g r i e v a n c e s a g a i n s t the facility manager had been lodged with his organisation and there was

an agreement with the District Health that they needed to come up with a recommendation.

“Usually nurses resign from their employment because of poor working conditions. They do not mention the real reasons why they leave. District Health has set up a team to investigate the matter and there is progress taking place. We only want to give them space to finalise,” said Chauke.

The facility manager, Ms. Semakaleng Eveline Pitse, when contacted about the allegations she said; “I have been expecting it. Everybody knows about this. I got threats that I was going to be exposed through the media by the aggrieved group of nurses, who do not want to be managed, but want to manage the management.”

“I thought that the matter

was ironed out because we have addressed it with the Clinic Committee and some of the aggrieved nurses have since resigned. I am aware of these lies that I refuse nurses study leave. It is not me who determines who qualifies for study. I never abused the state vehicle nor destroyed medication,” added Pitse.

Pitse further said she was not going to take the matter lying down, but she is going to report to her seniors, as every organisation has policy and protocol to abide to. She did not rule out the idea of consulting her lawyers for legal advice.

Sosh Times contacted Ms. Gail Julies, the Clinics Manager for comment, who said;”I do not have any legal authority to speak to you.”

The efforts of the residents of Matshelapata Section in Hebron, North West, that

propelled them to build a bridge that link them to other nearby areas should be viewed in a very serious perspective. This is indeed a resourceful and resilient community and at the same time is gat vol of consuming politicians’ pertinent lies. Instead of waiting endlessly for hollow promises that were made by the leadership of the province to re-build a bridge in their area which was swept away by heavy downpours they took upon themselves to dig deep into their pockets and rebuild the structure. It must be noted that prior to re-building the bridge the residents embarked upon protest action in a bid to attract the attention of the local municipality towards their plight but typically the authorities persistently buried their fuddled heads deep in the sand. Residents are rightly growing tired of being treated as mere third grade citizenry and only be considered as valuable vote catching cows (VCCs) during elections. The far east part of the North West has experienced a fair share of neglect by the provincial government as it was witnessed when three people were killed by the police during water protests in Mothotlung and the subsequent dismissal of the Madibeng Executive Mayor, Ms Poppy Magongwa. It betrays logic that authorities could be so passive and only react to residents’ dilemma following rampant protests that often result into loss of life and wanton destruction of private and public property. Perhaps it would be worthwhile for other communities to take a leaf of the residents of Hebron and use their talents and competencies to start doing things to improve their residential areas instead of allowing themselves to be used as VCCs.

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, REALLY?

THE LOOTING and destruction of shops owned by foreign nationals in townships around Gauteng is a spine chilling phenomenon that requires a political resolve to nip the scourge at the bud. Claims from all quarters that these actions are not xenophobic but criminal fly in the face of spectacular ignorance and irresponsibility by a government which its officials do not want to be accountable. If a call by the bird-brain president of the so-called SA Spaza and Tuckshop Association to the government to evict foreign nationals from Soweto if it is not a xenophobic sentiment, God help us all. “We don’t want them back here, and the community has spoken. Rather let them go back to their countries and leave our country with freedom”, the leader of the organisation was quoted by a Sunday newspaper. These can only be the remarks of someone who is a pathetically core xenophobic South African and surely not a criminally inclined person. Claims that foreign shop owners nationals are stealing jobs from the locals are ludicrous and without basis because most locally owned shops have long closed down because of the unfavourable economic conditions and stiff competition from well known retailers in the townships and some of the shops that were owned by local business people stand as a sore sight of museums in most townships. Some hard working South Africans who do not sit on their back sides whining and demanding jobs from the government buy their wares from the same outlets foreign nationals buy from use the same public transport modes to where they trade their goods competitively in the townships. So blaming enterprising foreign nationals for all sorts of dim-witted reasons we need to learn from them because surely these people do not visit some questionable Mamosebeletsi in the hit of the night to make their businesses successful, they have a way of doing things right. We need to become practical and realistic that’s all.

COMMENTFAILING MATRIC CAN be a devastating blow which often results into extreme depression and often suicidal tendencies. To some it may be unexpected as you thought to have worked hard studying in many instances depriving yourself the social leisure.

While your friends move on to higher institutions of learning you start having all sorts of regrets and blame everything around you. Failing Matric can be a slap in the face, but it is really not the end of the world. There are steps you can take to move forward and upward.

Here are 7 questions to ask yourself:(1) WHY did I fail?Try and find out the reason you failed. Be honest with yourself. Did you study hard enough? Were you out socialising with your friends or watching TV, obsessed with your social networks? Did you think studying wasn’t ‘cool’? Did you participate in class throughout the year or did you just try and ‘catch up’ in the last few weeks? Did you think it was going to be easy? Did you just give up? Can you blame personal issues or illness? (2) WHO can I blame?Well, really, the answer is simple: YOU! There are many challenges we face but ultimately how we respond to them will determine an outcome.

If there are determined learners living in disadvantaged backgrounds, studying by candlelight passing Matric – then others can study hard and pass too. You are in charge of your own life and your own destiny (where you end up in the world). It’s not easy, but life’s not easy. No-one

is going to knock on your door and present you with a fantastic job and a fabulous life. Not even the government!

It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to get places. If you stick with your ‘cool’ friends and do nothing – you’ll end up getting nothing out of life. And you alone, will be responsible for that.• ‘Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.’ - Mark Twain (3) WHAT next?Failing Matric is not the end of the world. It really isn’t. It will just take you slightly longer but you can improve your position. You have many options:• You could apply to have your papers re-marked. Re-marking may cost money so it’s only recommended if you honestly feel you did better than the mark you got. Check your local newspapers for the re-marking deadline date and fees. Learners from no-fee schools may not have to pay application fees.• If you have failed less than 3 subjects, you may apply to write supplementary exams. Deadline date to apply is usually near the end of January. For more info, visit education.gov.za. Supplementary exams are FREE!• If you feel you could benefit from re-doing your Matric – then this is the time to do it. Having a good Matric will open more doors for you. Go here to see how: http://www.careerplanet.co.za/tools_for_school/can-i-rewrite-or-finish-my-matric-i-wrote-after-2008-new-curriculum. (4) WHERE can I study?Though you have failed your Matric you can still gain access

to a Further Education and Training College (FET) to gain a grade 12 equivalent trade based qualification known as the

National Certificate Vocational. With this qualification you

gain entry into career fields such Engineering, Tourism and Hospitality, Management and Early Childhood Development to name a few. (5) WHEN must I apply?• For re-writingWe advise checking with your schools for the dates, they should have more information on this. Alternatively you can contact the department of education via their website www.education.gov.za or [email protected] or on 0800 202 933.• To re-do your matric yearFirstly contact your school to explore your options to enrol with them or for a transfer to another school. If you wish to pursue your matric privately through institutions like Damelin, Abbott College or Intec we advise contacting them directly.• FET CollegeContact the nearest FET College in your area to find out about their application procedure and dates. You kind find a list of

FET Colleges contact details on Career Planet Training Institutions page.NOTE:Check your local newspapers, the internet and schools for the application deadline dates. Each one is different.

Do not hesitate – if you miss the deadline date, there are no extensions! (6) WHICH is my best option? It all depends on you – the marks you obtained and what you would like to do.

For instance if you failed one subject, we would advise applying to write the supplementary exam for that subject. If you have failed more than two (2) subjects, you have two options:• One – you could apply at a school or private institution to re-do your matric year. • Two – you can apply to an FET College to obtain a National Certificate Vocational as explained above. (7) HOW can I do it?The first thing you need to do is change your attitude. You need to put yourself and your future first.

The decisions you make now will affect the rest of your life. Messing about until you’re almost 30 will make it a lot harder or even impossible to try and make a good life for yourself.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .The time is now. Get cracking! Effort = Reward! ‘The secret of getting ahead is getting started.’ – Mark TwainThe more effort, the higher the reward. You are in control of that – if you want it.

Failed Matric? Is it the end of the road?

We all assume that studying will come naturally when our books are in front of us, right? Until your books are staring at you and you have no idea where to start! No one ever teaches you exactly how to study or how to go about it. Good study methods make a big difference to your marks. The following six easy steps are often overlooked. By applying them, you’ll hold onto more information and who knows, you might even feel confident enough to actually like studying! (1) Study environmentMake room for studying - your mind and body need it. Before you begin, take a deep breath of life-sustaining air and pause.Remember how you prepare yourself to do something enjoyable, like watching a DVD you’ve been waiting months to see. (2) Study placeYour own personal work space, it’s your sweet zone. Use the same exercise from making room to study, you can make the place where you study your own and make it into a happy place. (3) Study memoryIf you’re blessed with a

photographic memory, skip this section you lucky fish! For the rest, knowing how your memory works is useful. Here’s the key: in any sequence or list of things, people usually remember the first and last items best.Whatever you try to remember, you’ll discover you can recall the beginning and the end, with steadily more fuzzy memories of the middle bits. You cannot change this, it’s how our brains work! Don’t fight it. But you can use this to your advantage.(4) Study paceIt’s all about setting the right speed for the studying you need to get done.Professional cyclists who are sprint finishers push themselves hard and fast in short bursts of energy. Those who are in longer road races through hilly sections and difficult terrain have to spread the load and build slowly and steadily towards a final push.Remember, there’s no right or wrong way. But it has to work for you. As you’re studying, think about the ways you like to work, and adjust your pace. However, when you study at a slow pace, you will need to allocate more time for the material. But whether you have hours

and hours of time or just a brief period in which to study, taking regular breaks is just as important as actively studying. Many students find that 5 -10 minutes of rest after every 30 minutes of study works. (5) Study methodWhoever you are, however well you feel you know something, it’s always wise to have a plan. A task might look huge and overwhelming at first but with a good, solid plan, you can always find a way through, around or over the obstacles you face.Break up your biggest study goal into small chunks or little tasks. Each of these bits might consist of a single topic. And sometimes, you’ll learn that one or two key elements stand out and become fixed in your mind. 1. A classic trick used by professionals includes constructing a “House of Memory’. Place every object and thing you want to remember in unique locations in the house, in dedicated rooms and even in cupboards, on shelves or near pieces of furniture.2. It’s also useful to use humour, things that make you laugh. Play with your study keywords; make them funny or even outrageous and ridiculous. You’ll be

surprised at how much easier they are to memorise. (6) Study toolsAs your confidence about studying grows, the number of study tools you collect will increase.Find what methods and good habits work for you and then use these study tools well and often, like a professional. One useful tool many students learn to love and appreciate is a mind map. This is a rough diagram you can draw and make notes on to visually outline building-block information. Create a mind map by starting with a key word or phrase about a topic. If you need them, add on subcategories with smaller and smaller branches.Mind map categories consist of anything you think is special and need to remember:• Interesting or unknown terms• Key ideas• Tasks to be completedA mind map will help you to study and revise material and also offers you a quick and uncomplicated way to visually organise information.‘I will study and get ready, and perhaps my chance will come.’ - Abraham Lincoln

MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement Collen

Maine has adopted Rantebeng Middle School in Dikebu Village near Makapanstad in Moretele Municipality and has promised to buy the school 30 computers and build a storeroom. The MEC made the commitment when he inspected the state of readiness of two schools in Moretele Local Municipality for the 2015 school year.

The visit by MEC Maine was to ensure that all schools were ready for teaching and learning during their first days of re-opening with no interruptions. During his visit to both Hedrick Makapan High and Rantebeng Middle School in Dikebu village teaching and learning was continuing as expected with all teachers in attendance.

Principal of Rantebeng

M i d d l e School, Ms M a m i k i e Bochochele, highl ighted that many things were in order at the school. “There are enough text books and stationery, school nutrition is functional, there are no vacant positions, several school policies are in place and our school governing body is functional. Our major problem is that we do not have computers and our budget does allow us to buy computers. We have looked for sponsors and no entities are coming forth. We really need assistance on that regard. Our children need computer experience now”.

Maine’s decision was overwhelmingly welcomed. “I’m adopting this school and I’ll try by all means to assist the school

to sort out all the challenges. I’m going to start by delivering 30 computers to the school so that children in a rural area like Dikebu must not be left without

knowing how to operate a computer. We will also build the storeroom for the computers. The school will have to employ security personnel to safeguard the computers” said Maine.

Earlier Maine had visited Hedrick Makapan High School in the same village which received 91% matric pass rate last year.

Ms Mary Seoketsa, the principal of school wanted the department to assist them with appointing a permanent Physical Science teacher. “Many things are in place in the school but our problem is the physical science teacher who was employed on

a temporary contract. When they get permanent positions somewhere they leave the school and it takes us a lot of time before we make a replacement. Getting a permanent teacher will really assist the school” said Seoketsa.

Maine promised to forward all concerns registered to Education

Department which will attend to the request.

Maine’s visits are part of the programme of all members of the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Legislature to assess state of readiness in some schools within the province in the beginning of every year.

TEACHERS AT A high school in Maboloka were bribed by pupils to be promoted to the next grade without writing their examinations.

“The department stepped in to investigate the matter on the basis of the allegations that were surfacing,” said department spokesperson, Mr Brian Setswambung.

“It is alleged that some learners were involved in buying report cards from teachers.”

The Motshwane High School pupils involved were from Grade 10 and 11. “Not all the pupils were involved. It emerged that only some pupils were involved” said Setswambung.

The department said it was going through examination scripts to determine which pupils had been involved in the alleged bribery.

Setswambung said until the matter was finalised, all grade 10 and 11 pupils from the school would remain in the grades they were in last year.

A daily newspaper on Friday reported that pupils paid teachers an R800 bribe to promote them to the next grade. About eight pupils had boasted to their colleagues that they had passed despite them not writing exams.

One pupil recorded the conversation on his cellphone and handed it to the department, demanding that he also be promoted.

REFUSE& HATE TO BE CALLED A FOLLOWER

I believe that having read: “Are you a Leader or a Follower?” you had to

do some introspection and come up with an answer that best suited you. You now know who you are.

Various sources explain a follower in the following manner: A person who supports and admires a particular person or set of ideas. A person who does things after somebody else has done them first (Oxford Advanced Learners dictionary). An adherent or devotee. A person or thing that follows (Readers digest Oxford dictionary)A person who follows another in regard to his or her ideas or belief; disciple or adherent. A person who imitates, copies, or takes as a model or idea. (Dictionary.com).

The greatest human shame vested in followers is the ability to support and admire others whiles what belongs to them gets unattended to an extent of dilapidation. The sense of admiration in what they have

is dead. Most of the time, they complain that what they have as compared to what others have, is far too little and insignificant. They always see no value in what they have. Followers imitate others. They are scared to take the first step. They prefer and feel very comfortable to act after other people have acted. They are photo copies by nature of their own making because they sold out their state of being original which was bestowed upon them by the Creator. They follow even the things they are not supposed to follow. They follow without the sense of direction. They have become habitual followers because most of the time they idle throughout life. Their existence is without existence. Followers live for nothing of their own but of others. They don’t believe in themselves but in others irrespective of age, nationality, sex and etc. The world today is going in the wrong direction because there are too many followers than Leaders. Many today prefer to be undecided over things that need decisive actions. They have opted for

people to do things for them.Today businesses are closing

down because business people follow their businesses rather than Leading their businesses. As you read this article many followers are in serious trouble and many you buried yesterday. These businesses do not grow, employees do not grow, cash flow does not grow, assets do not grow, stock values keep on shrinking, and internal knowledge does not increase because from the head to the feet the entire environment is surrounded by followers. Maybe it is time that South African followers should follow the foreigners. Majority have gone to school and have graduated in many fields that make them followers. When a country keeps on increasing the number of its followers, the entire country finds itself in a quckmire.

As we are driven deeper into the wilderness out of our own desire and folly, the book ofGenesis 1:27-28King James Version (KJV) may assist us to find a point of departure. We might find out the point at which we lost it in order to come back

to track.27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. May I assure you that it is not over until God says it is over? His will shall not be done until you pursue His will for your life. Your life depends upon His will for your life and not your life for your will. You are still afforded an opportunity to redress your state of folly. Until you wake up from an everlasting sleep you enjoyed so much and begin to acknowledge that you have no image of your own, you will,“till death, do you part remain a follower”. You see, followers came into the planet earth, lived, grew, aged and exited without knowing the reason and purpose of their presence. Followers love saying, “this is my beautiful body and do whatever they wish with it”. They claim what does not belong to them and as a result of their claim, they follow their bodies.

We all are carrying an image that demands far beyond human understanding responsibilities and accountabilities. We carry an image that requires productivity of the most high. The image requires loyal responsibility and accountability within the dimensions of our purpose of existence. You will never be purposeful until God says you are purposeful. The earth is waiting for the image to replenish it. The greatest blunder any image can do or has done is to follow another

image. Any image with the Y-purpose is folly to follow the image with the X-purpose. Many images are sited on the thrones that do not belong to them; hence they are very unhappy, sad and morose. Then you will understand why so many people are purposeless and live purposeless lives. The million rand question for you is, what type of life do you live? My sincere advice to you is,find yourself space where nobody can disturb you and talk to yourself about yourself. Ask yourself if your-self is your purposeful self. Don’t underestimate yourself because all the answers you are looking for in the wonderfulworld are all in yourself for your purpose. My purpose in the planet is to bring and instil in you God’s purpose for your purpose so that you become purposeful in this life time. You owe it to God, yourself and the universe to fill purpose into purpose. Governmental Institutions, businesses and domestic household consumers collectively owe the Madibeng Local

Municipality monies amounting to R1billion. In a bid to recoup the money owed to them

and fast track service delivery, the municipality has issued a communiqué urging defaulters to settle their accounts.

The statement reads; “The Municipality through the Office of the Executive Mayor would

Madibeng owed R1 billionlike to request all business owners, government departments and households to start payments on their municipal accounts.”

“The municipality would like to state that a lot of debts are owed to the municipality and this makes it difficult for the municipality to settle its own accounts and execute its constitutional obligation. An amount of R25, 2 million is owed by government institutions, R200 million by businesses and R788 million by domestic household consumers.”

The statement further states; “We plead to all consumers to respond positively to the call to make payments on their accounts failing which, credit control measures will have to be undertaken to enforce those that are not making payments to do so.”

The municipality is also guilty of not settling its accounts as it was also pointed as a defaulter by the city of Tshwane which was trying to recover money owed to them. Madibeng owes the City of Tshwane millions of rands but has since paid part of the money after a deal was struck by both parties.

Politicians’ empty promises have prompted residents of Hebron in the

Madibeng Local Municipality to dig deep into their pockets and build a bridge that connects Matshelapata Section and other areas.Last year heavy rains swept away bridges in some parts of the North West and Gauteng Provinces, leaving a trail of devastation. Residents were left stranded unable to access basic services. Realising that their dilemma had been ignored by the Madibeng Municipality, the residents of Hebron embarked on protest actions.

To quell the tense situation that prevailed, the then Premier of the province, Ms Thandi Modise accompanied by the municipality’s bigwigs, descended upon the area and personally promised the residents to build and repair the bridges.

To date only a bridge that was swept away has been rebuild but those that Modise had promised to be built have not been built.

Residents of Matshelapata believe they have been betrayed by the politicians. In rainy seasons the river water

At least there is a bridge over troubled waters

overflows and submerges their makeshift bridge preventing them from going to work and their children to school.

They have since put their heads together and decided to solve their problem. Households that can afford contributed R100 each to buy needed materials to build a proper bridge. Already, six concrete bridge building blocks have been bought.

One of the concerned residents, Mr Samson Monama said; “Last year we protested and promises were made but not kept, that is why we decided as a community to build our own without the help of the government. This is to show other communities what

happens when the community is united and come up with solutions to problems affecting their communities.”

Another resident, Mr Dan Mogorosi said; “Last year the Premier fed us empty promises and said our problems would be addressed within a week, but a year has passed. When it rains hard we risk our lives to cross the submerged makeshift bridge in order to get to our respective places of employment. That is why we decided to build our own bridge without the expertise of the government.”

So far, the residents of Matshelapata have built two makeshift bridges in order to gain access to nearby communities.

NORTH WEST Department of Social Development has invested more than R6 million in empowering rural young people with civil construction and building skills, through the implementation of National Youth Service Programme, MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe, has announced.

About 275 unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 35, Gaolaolwe said, are currently receiving training on plastering, painting, tiling, carpentry, bricklaying and end user computing courses.

Fifty unemployed youth are being recruited from Maheng village in Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality. Other groups of young people, Gaolaolwe said come from most deprived wards in Rustenburg, Matlosana and Mahikeng.

“We are equipping these young people so that they become future employers and be the change agents in the communities they come from,” Gaolaolwe said, adding that the skills that the learners will acquire during their 12 months training will increase their employability and encourage them to venture into the labour market.

Gaolaolwe said the national youth service programme has made is possible for her department to link unemployed youth from most deprived wards to income generation projects.

“We will explore some means

to ensure that these young people have the equipment at their disposal to continue to make a living out of the skills that they have acquired and further train and employ other unemployed youth in the respective wards,” Gaolaolwe said.

National Youth Service programme, also known as NYS, aims to provide long-term and effective ways of reconstructing South African society by developing the abilities of young people through service and learning. It also improves youth employability through opportunities for work experience, skills development and support to gain access to economic and further learning opportunities.

H A M M A N S K R A A L CRICKET Club beat Eersterus Cricket Club by 2 wickets in a North Cricket Union promotion league game played at Mandela Oval in Hammanskraal recently. Eersterus won the bet and elected to bat first.

Khutso Mahlangu set the pace for the visitors, scoring 27 runs not out. Eersterus found the going tough with the impressive bowling and fielding by the home team, before crumbling down the betting order with a target of 120/10 in 22, 4 overs. The home side lost their first wicket in the fourth wicket, but recovered well and started to build a solid partnership and a steady run rate. Delighted Hammanskraal coach, Kgomotso Mothoa, said

his team has still to work on the batting; “We still need

a bit of work especially on the batting side. But it was a great game and a close victory for us.”

He further called on for parents and the community as a whole to rally behind the team.

“It is important that we get more supporters from the community especially when we are playing at home. This will spur the team to produce a good performance. It is great that we see young children from the township playing this lovely sport and we can only support them with our presence and resources,” said Mothoa.

Eersterus’ Mahlangu said he was disappointed with not being able to reach the half centuary target he had set for himself.

“I am not really pleased with my performance because I didn’t get past the half century mark. But the game could have gone either way, but it was a great team effort,” said Mahlangu.

VUKANI NETBALL Club secured a 15-5 victory over Kanana Queens in the Gauteng Netball Challenge, held at Mandela Sports Complex recently. The event used to scout players to represent the City of Tshwane Region 2 in the Provincial Netball Tournament later in the year.

The Event Coordinator, Caroline Khalo said the challenge is aimed at reviving the flagging state of the sport in the area.

“It has been a while since we had a fully fledged Netball League in Hammanskraal. We are pleased with the commitment that has been shown by the teams and the players in particular. It has reaffirmed our belief that it is possible that we could revive the sport.

“We are happy that we were able to select a great squad from the poll of players we had on the court on the day. We will continue holding training sessions with the selected players and try to raise their levels of performance,” said Khalo.

Member of the Sport Task Team in the region, Mohau Dithejane, shared Khalo’s sentiments that the challange is part for an urgent intervention aimed at rejuvenating the Netball.

“We need to create a platform that will enable our kids to actively take part in the sport. Our long term goal is to establish a netball league in Hammanskraal, this will help us gauge the appetite for teams to take part in the sport. That is the task team’s primary goal,” said Dithejane.

The 16-year old Johannah Ngobeni who plies her trade for Kanana Queens expressed her excitement at playing netball.

“I am happy with my performance, I love netball because it keeps me away from negative activities,” she added.

F.C Temba goes to the top of NW SAB Castle league

By Swikane Molekana

FC Temba came from a goal down to register a 2-1 victory over Pretoria

side Thaba Tshwane in the top of the table SAB Castle League clash at Mandela Stadium, Hammanskraal recently. Thaba Tshwane went to the game occupying the first spot on log and FC Temba second with a win talking them top of the table.

Both sides started the game on high tempo, ocassionally testing each other, creating minimal decent goal scoring chances.

The first goal scoring opportunity fell to the visiting team after a header from a corner wiped in to the penalty area only to be punched away by FC Temba keeper Phemelo Seleka. Minuets later Thaba Tshwane took the lead through a thundorous free kick curled away from Seleka.

Later the home side levelled the matters through the blunder by Tshwane defender, Vusi Dlamini who put the ball in his own net when trying to clear.

On the half hour mark FC

Temba Kgothatso Mdongula found himself at the end of a teasing cross but his shot went over the bar and later his teammate Benedict Morare’s free kick was easily dealt with by the Tshwane keeper. Both sides went into the half time locked at 1-nill

The home side had a better start to the second stanza of the game creating clear cut goal scoring opportunities only to be let down by poor finishing. The first culprit was Kgwele

Moloto who failed to give his side a lead from close range. Moloto was back again later with curling cross but Lesibana Mashamaite failed to connect with a header.

Dlamini nearly redeemed himself after a first half own goal but his free kick produced the best out of FC Temba keeper. Mashamaite was back on the 68th minutes with a header from a set piece to complete his brace and make it 2-1.

SOSHANGUVE RUGBY Clubs is set to start the new year on a high note when it tackles a Limpopo based side in the Blue Bulls presidential reserve league game to be played at Giant Stadium.

The side last played in a competitive match when they finished fourth in the Tshwane Mayoral Cup.

The team’s head coach, Mpho Makgatho, said he believed his charges were rearing to go despite having started preparing for the season ahead two weeks ago.

“Rugby is about strength and fitness and not just practising. We have a number of crucial four players from our last year’s team.

“Two of these players got scholarships from the University of Johannesburg (UJ), while one is now playing for Pretoria Police and the other one has been scooped by the Impala Rugby Club in Rustenburg. On top of that, several players who were in matric have since left for various tertiary institutions while we have two injured players” said Makgatho.

Despite this, Makgatho is adamant that the set back will not have a negative impact on the team.

“We will be embarking on a recruitment drive to bring in new blood into the team. Our plan is to win as many games as possible and to expose our players to bigger teams,” said Makgatho.
