Friday 4 th November Assembly 12.00pm – 2/3M Teddy Bear Picnic – 11.30am Tuesday 8 th November P & C Meeting – 7.00pm Friday 11 th November Remembrance Day Assembly –Election Speeches – 12.00pm FACEY – School Portraits Exhibition Have you checked out the wonderful portraits completed by students in the Crossing Point Learning Community. FACEY paints a portrait of people through the eyes of local young people, featuring portraits and self-portraits from students in Year 6. Our young artists have worked with Albury High teachers and student mentors as part of a broader transition to secondary school. This exhibition in MAMA's Learning Lane forms part of MAMA's summer celebration of creative youth. Portraits will remain on display until 13 th November. Entry is free. Community Garden Grants In conjunction with Breaking New Ground, AWPS has been successful in gaining two grants for our community garden. We recently received $3700 to support our digital storytelling and $3500 as an eco-schools grant. This will certainly support our plans for the garden and after meeting with Gumboots Kimball last week we are ready for a working bee. Swim School 21 st November – 2 nd December Each year students in years 2-6 are invited to participate in a Special Swim Scheme Program run by the Department of Sport and Recreation. These special lessons support students in becoming more confident in the water. Individual notes with all of the information have been sent home recently – if you would like your child to attend we ask that the note be returned TOMORROW. Science Fair Students at AWPS enjoyed a great day of science last week. The day provided an opportunity for our students to experience the excitement of scientific discovery whilst designing and making parachutes. The culmination being a fair testing in the amphitheatre to see which parachute would float to the ground in the slowest time. Well done to Chloe Manley who designed the best parachute, landing on the ground safely in 6.13 seconds. Other notable efforts were from Charli Nugent (5.54sec), Mia Chandler (4.72sec), Alex Rainsford (4.44sec), Charlie Banks (2.67sec) and Macaileh Rigney (2.47sec). Thank you to Mr Beattie for being our judge. Next year’s design concept will be a catapult. Teddy Bears Picnic Our Year 4 and 5 buddies are reminded to bring in their teddy bear tomorrow for the Teddy Bear’s picnic with the Little Gems. This will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet their little buddy and form lasting friendships - and show off their own adorable teddy bear. Election Speeches School Captain elections will be held next Friday 11 th November. All nominated students will address the student body. high quality of students who nominated for the leadership positions and I look forward to listening to their speeches.

The incoming School Leaders for 2017 will be announced during Presentation Day – Monday 12th December. Congratulations to all nominated students and good luck. Water With the warmer weather we are reminding parents to pack a water bottle for your child each day and remind them that they can also get water from the taps or bubblers throughout the day. Please don’t send in soft drinks or juices – on the hotter days the children like to have a drink available to them in the classroom and we only allow water into the classrooms. Hats on Heads During Term 4 we encourage the wearing of the school broad-brimmed hat every day as protection from the sun’s rays. Please prompt your child each morning to wear their hat to school. Students who do not wear the board brimmed hat will be asked to play in the shade. Students involved in playing PSSA sport must wear a broad brimmed hat when playing sport.

A reminder that caps are not part of the school uniform and we ask that parents do not allow their child to wear caps to school. Rewards Day Our next Rewards Day, which will be a scavenger hunt, will be held next week. Well done to all of the students who have displayed respect, responsibility and care in the first 5 weeks of the term – we are very proud of you. At present we have 97% of our students attending the Rewards Day - a brilliant way to start the term! Proud and Deadly Awards Congratulations to our students who received Proud and Deadly Awards last week at Albury High School.

These awards celebrate and recognise excellence and achievement at school and we could not be more proud of Ciahanna Williams-Bihler, Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Kamiliyah Mobourne, Malakai Rigney, Tyronne Murray, Tahlia Cannon, Cheylaah Williams-Bihler, Isaiah Whybrow, Tyrone Ingram,

Tamanah Mobourne, Allesia Mitchell, Danna Cannon, Rory Manley, Zoe Quinn, Jaxon Charles and Tarryn Sharp.

The Big Write Off Thank you to families who have sat down with their child and talked about the writing stimulus provided in the last newsletter. Students wrote wonderful recounts about their best or worst day.

Students who wrote the most number of words this time included: Year 6 – Amber Pengelly Year 5 – Damon Sinclair Year 4 – Maleki Mikolic Year 3 – Tamanah Mobourne Year 2 – Kristen Mundy-Thiele and Stella Murphy Year 1 – Cheylaah Williams-Bihler and Lilly-Rose Williams Kindergarten – Amyera and Elizabeth Fitzgerald

The best recount was written by: Kindergarten – Amyera Fitzgerald Year 1 – Eli Chalmers and Violet Stevens-Murphy Year 2 – Gemma Quinn Year 3 – Amelia Stevens Year 4 – Madison Heeman

Our next writing topic will be an information report. Students are asked to write a report on their favourite animal.

Once again we will be looking at the most number of words spelt correctly and who wrote the best report.

We would ask that, as a family, you take a few moments to discuss the topic, in order to give your child a few ideas about what they may include in their report. Suggestions could be where the animal lives, what it likes to eat, if it has any predators etc. Masters of Mathematics Mentals Each week students are competing in a Mastery of Mathematics Mentals competition. Students will be given a set of mathematics questions that they do each day with the hope that they get better

and faster at completing the questions each and every day. Last week 1/2K won the competition with 60% of students getting all of the questions correct last Friday. Well done 1/2K – let’s see who will win tomorrow.

on the pitch and conceded many runs in wides. We will have to work on this aspect of our game.

Week Three The junior team played very well but lost to Lavington East in a close match. We batted well with Michael Wuksta scoring 19, Rory Manley scoring 18 and Callum Smith scoring 16 runs. Our total was 63 but Lavington East scored 75.

Logan also bowled very well, as did Praveen Pathmanathan, Josh Stevens, Jacob Horn, Damon Sinclair and Jordyn Carter. Will Eden-Leet and Mav Parker both fielded very well. Our bowling was much more accurate this week.
