Labor Day Admin Office Closed

Pictured are crews working on the Station 51’s office work station remodel on Thursday, July 25th. This upgrade provides adequate individual work stations for the present and future staffing levels at this Station, and develops a better workflow when the District’s “Department Operations Center” is functioning during a Level Two (Enhanced Operations) or a Level One (Catastrophic Operations) activation in accordance with the “Kitsap County Changing Gears Plan.” This effort involved participation and coordination with members of 51 “B” Shift, Engine 50, the I.T. Division, Facilities, Central Supply and the A/C’s Office. A/C Tague extends his appreciation for all of the hard work and cooperation that was provided which allowed for the majority of this process to get completed in one day, an excellent effort by all!

Update

SPOTLIGHT: Annual Extrication Training

This week, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue held our annual extrication training at the Bremerton Training Center. This training provides crews with the opportunity to practice techniques for rescuing entrapped occupants after a motor vehicle collision. This year, we acquired 20 vehicles from Yank-A-Part Auto Wrecking out of Poulsbo and simulated a double roll-over with a third vehicle on top of an inverted vehicle; two "occupants" were entrapped (one was ejected and pinned underneath). Crews from Navy Region Northwest Fire & Emergency Services joined CKFR's crews and everyone practiced advanced stabilization and extrication methods, scene control, vehicle lifting techniques, and incident command. With the hot weather we also deployed our volunteers with CKFR’s "rehab unit", they kept everyone hydrated and provided cooling stations. The skills learned and practiced during this training will definitely improve our speed and proficiency in collisions where extrication is needed. This will lead to patients receiving definitive treatment sooner and will translate into lives saved in our community. Well done to all of the participants, and notably to Captain Porter for his work in designing and planning out the scenarios and training plan!

Heidi gets a Slam Dunk!

RIGHT: During the July Admin Staff meeting, Super-Sam Luisi awarded the Slam Dunk trophy to her counterpart–Accounts Payable Specialist Heidi Robnett! Heidi came on board to CKFR about a year and a half ago and has proven that she’s able to tackle problems head-on and can get the job done! Heidi, we appreciate all that you do ensure that the bills and the people get paid on time. Great work, Heidi!
