VCS Parent Newsletter November 9, 2018 This Year’s Theme: Now you are the Body of Christ Remembrance Day This weekend is Remembrance Day. Today we had a special chapel to commemorate once again this day. We are mindful that it is the 100th anniversary of the armistice of WW I this year. We are grateful for the sacrifices of others so that we might have freedom. My parents grew up in Holland during WW II and they very much remember being liberated by Canadian soldiers, so I have a personal connection to the importance of Remembrance Day as I am sure so many of our families do. St. Joseph’s Foodbank Drive As part of the way to live out our calling as Christians, VCS will be collecting food for the St. Joseph's Foodbank here in Mission. We wish to play our part of being a blessing to the community of Mission and this is one way we can do so. Stay tuned for information coming home from the classroom teachers regarding what the foodbank is most in need of. Kindergarten Info Night Just a reminder that we are having a Kindergarten Info Night on Thursday, November 15 from 7 to 8 PM. We have flyers if anyone would like to pick them up to share with families looking for next year. We would also ask that you please share the FB event and invite family/friends! Thank you! Mission Candlelight Parade The 34 th Annual Mission Candlelight Parade will be on December 7 this year. Valley Christian will be once again building a float for the parade. We are grateful for parents who have volunteered to work on this and we look forward to having as many students with our float as possible that night! Please plan on joining us on December 7! SCSBC Community Health Survey All families should have received an e-mail from the Society of Christian Schools regarding the community health survey. If you did not receive this email please contact our office. If you have not yet filled out the survey, we ask that you take the time to simply click on the link and fill out the survey. This should take about 10 minutes to fill out and will provide invaluable information for us as a school! Thank you! Abuse Prevention Month This month our school will be doing some abuse prevention training for our students. We want to help them be aware of how to prevent being in situations where they might experience abuse. We want all of our students to be safe at all times. We will be using materials provided for us from the Society of Christian Schools in British Columbia. If you have any questions about any of this please feel free to contact me. Cold/Flu Season As we enter into the season where we all experience illnesses a bit more, we would ask the following: 1) if your child will be away, please call and advise the office before 8:30am. This helps so the office can mark your child absent before teachers do attendance at 8:30am. 2) If your child has a persistent cough and it simply does not stop it might be a good idea to keep your child at home. It often happens that the teacher ends up calling for the student to get picked up as we want to keep the other students in good health. Neufeld Farms/Purdy's Don’t wait any longer! The cutoff for our Neufeld Farms fundraiser is TUESDAY. The cutoff for our Purdy’s Chocolate fundraiser is THURSDAY. Let’s get those orders in! Blessings! Soli Deo Gloria Ron Donkersloot Christmas Program Just a reminder that our school's annual Christmas Program, “Great Big Story”, will be at the Clarke Theatre on Thursday December 13. We look forward to seeing you all there as well! We trust that you will of course be inviting your families and friends to this event! We are the Body… As we seek to live out our calling to be the body of Christ, we are thankful for families and friends who help us in living this out. THANK YOU to the members of the VCS community who donated money for a class set of ukuleles. Although they wish to remain anonymous, we are so thankful for this generous donation! These ukuleles will add diversity to our music program!
