Schley County’s Bryce Cosby came in 5th at 21:09. Marion’s top nisher was Skylar McAll- siter (10th). In middle school action (2 miles), Schley County’s Caleb Woodall edged his brother Cody by one second (12:54/12:55), as they came in 1st and 2nd to lead the Wildcats to a team victory, along with their teammate Will Cobb, who placed third. Marion County sixth grader Drew Harris turned in a per- sonal best of 18:06 to pace the Eagles. Marion County’s girls took the top three spots to claim victory – 1st - Mary Dixon (17:04); 2nd - Martha Dixon; 3rd - Madison Nelson. “Schley and Americus-Sumter always provide great competi- tion and I value their participa- tion in our cross country events,” said MCHS Coach Darius Moore. “The meet, the last one before region and state com- petition, showed the improve- ment the kids made throughout the entire season. It’s a thrill to see a young runner improve their time by 5 minutes over a 3-month span. The excitement on their faces is unmatched.” Schley County’s Caleb Woodall edges his brother Cody in the recent middle school cross county meet in Marion County. In the championship game, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. “Our boys came out and set the tone by being physical and executing the plays on offense,” said Head Coach Derek Goodroe. “Our offense didn’t turn the ball over and our patience allowed us to vary the snap count, which kept the defense off balance. Our coaching staff did a great job getting the team prepared.” Macon County fumbled the opening kickoff, setting Marion County up with good field position. That led to Quentez Battle scoring the rst points of the game on an 8-yard run. The conversion failed, so the Eagles led 6-0. Later in the rst quarter Mykelle Burton scored on a 3-yard run that was set up by a 25-yard run he had earlier in the drive. That made it 12-0. Just before halftime Burton added six more points to the scoreboard, this time on defense. He intercepted a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles an 18-0 lead. In the third quarter Quentez Battle completed a 60-yard pass to Terrence Williams. That set up a 2-yard scoring run by Battle that made it 24-0. Battle then did what Burton had done in the rst half, as he followed an offensive score with one on defense. He intercepted a pass and raced 60 yards for the nal touchdown of the game (30-0). Regular Season Games: During the season, the Eagles scores were: Marion 26, Schley 8; Marion 26, Brookstone 16; Marion 14, Taylor 32; Marion 38, Chattahoochee County 12; Marion 44, Stewart County 6; Marion 38, Calvary 0. The Eagles then won both postseason games to finish with a record of 7-1. The Marion County Middle School team is coached by Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator Derek Goodroe, Defensive Coordinator Perry Smith, and assistant coaches Kyle Long, Mark Carlock, and Michael Medders.
