• Scientific discoveries leaves a lot of good impact, which dates back to the individual and society benefit.

• Among the findings is the discovery of a laser beam which has become ubiquitous and are central to many technologies that are used in several areas, including chemistry, geology and branches of applied sciences.

Early development and education

• On 11th of July 1927, the American physicist “Theodore Harold Maiman” was born in Los Angeles.

• Theodore’s father was an electronics engineer, so he introduced his son to the world of technology and had a deeply influential in developing his son's passion in electronics.

• In 1949, Theodore graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor degree in engineering physics.

• Two years later obtained a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. After that, he completed a doctorate in physics in 1955.

Work life• While Dr. Maiman was studying for master and

doctorate, he worked with The Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and other electronic companies on guided missile and missile systems.

• After that, he worked at Hughes Research Laboratories in California, to work in the Atomic Physics Department.

• His function was to push the practical limits of the coherent electromagnetic spectrum to shorter wavelengths. He was especially interested in the maser so he developed the first working laser in 1960.

Laser time• Maiman built a simple and small laser. He has called it a ruby laser

because this device consisted of an artificial ruby.

• It is about one and a half inches long. Laser is a device which generate a particular type of light. This light is consistent and contains exactly one color or wavelength.

• Those waves are all travel in a particular direction, perfectly parallel to each other so it can be concentrated on one tiny spot.

• All of laser energy is focused to create a small, powerful point.

• There are many inventions are using lasers such as CD, DVD players, bar code readers in stores and others.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Laser

• There are several advantages of using lasers. The first advantage is that lasers can measure distances up to 20 kilometer especially and precisely the dimensions of space objects.

• The second advantage is that doctors are using lasers in the treatment of certain eye diseases and in surgical procedures such as the brain, heart and general surgery.

• The final advantage is that lasers can be used in wars to destroy hostile missiles and identify the bullet's path of Force Warrior.

On the other hand : There are several disadvantages of using lasers

• Firstly, laser beam is dangerous to the eyes.

• For example, if the laser beam has shone into the eye, it could suffer burns in eyes and may damage retinal.

• Secondly, some types of lasers can cause damage to the skin.

• Finally, large quantities of lasers can cause cancer.
