Monterey Car Week
The city of Monterey plays host to the famousPebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. In additionto the concours there was a variety of differentevents held throughout the week, includingauctions held by RM Sotheby's, Gooding & Co,and Mecum.
The high seller for the weekend was the 1994McLaren F1 LM-Spec. This particular car isjust one of two examples in existence built byMcLaren to meet Le Mans specifications. What does that mean exactly? Well it means that afterthe car was already completed and had gone through 5 years of life like any other McLaren F1,it went back to the factory for a very extensive make-over. The new make-over consisted ofwhat McLaren calls the HDK, or High Downforce Kit. In addition to the HDK, a transmissioncooler, two additional radiators, a modified exhaust, 18" wheels, headlights, A/C and radioupgrades were fitted to the car. Last but most certainly not least the engine was upgraded to anunrestricted 680hp GTR spec engine.
