French Door Size Guide

With French Door Conversion Kits, LARSON® storm doors are easily adapted for double-door entry applications. Each kit

includes detailed installation instructions, all necessary hardware, astragal, and special drip cap. Refer to French Door Size

Guide below for proper selection of French Door Conversion Kits.

Measure existing French Door Opening

1. Measure full width of opening from jamb exterior trim where storm

doors will attach to the trim.

2. Measure full height of opening from head exterior trim to threshold

where storm doors will attach.

3. Compare your dimensions with the standard French storm door

opening size guide. If your opening does not match a standard,

you need custom French doors.

Note: Continuous wood shims up to 1/4" thick can be installed behind

both Z-bars allowing a given width of standard doors to fit an

opening 1/2" wider. Extra long screws will be needed to secure.

After adding supporting posts, as needed, and framing up each window openings, you're ready to collect

your fi nal Scenix window measurements. Here's how:

• Width – Measure between the jambs at three points: top, middle and bottom.

• Height – Measure from the high point of the sill to the top of the opening – on the left, center and right of

the window.

• Depth – Ensure a minimum of 2-1/2" of opening depth between the inside window trim and the outside.

When placing your order, always use the smallest rough opening size when ordering. Also, note that the

actual window will be 1/2" smaller in width and height.

When installing Scenix windows, we recommend that a second person assist you with installation.

• First, unwrap your new window and discard the packaging material including three metal shipping clips

and foam blocks.

• Position the window in the opening and center it both vertically and horizontally, using shims to square

and plumb.

• Install the provided screens in the pre-punched holes in the sides of the jambs in the top and bottom of

the window. To avoid bowing, do not overtighten.

• Fill any gaps between the framing and the window with backer rod and apply sealant both inside and out,

as desired.

• Apply trim, as desired.

Measure opening width at three locations

To order storm windows with uneven glass inserts, measure down

from top of window to center of meeting rail (Figure 4).

WHEN MEASURING:Provide opening size

1/8". Provide these dimensions when ordering.

LARSON mullion bars allow mounting multiple comfortSEAL windows together in the same opening to align

with existing prime windows.

Mullion bars are 1" wide and mount between comfortSEAL windows to create an opening for each window.

The spacing between the bars or side jambs is used to determine individual window opening width.

CALCULATE OPENING SIZES FOR ORDERING:

• Identify center of each existing mullion and make a

mark (See Fig. 1).

• To determine window ordering width, measure from

inside the window jamb to mark. Downsize individual

windows 1/2" for each side that will touch a mullion to

allow for 1" mullion bar.

• Measure Opening Height (sill to top of opening).

Use this for all windows and mullion bar(s). Height must be the same

for all windows.

Example: 3 Window opening with 2 mullion bars
