What does fun, planned breaks from caregiving

(respite) and pediatric clinical hours for nursing

students have in common? Discovery Club!

By: Katie Dockery

Easter Seals of Colorado

Discovery Club is six hours of respite structured for children ages 6-18. ALL abilities welcome, including

children with mild, moderate, severe and/or complex behavioral, medical, and cognitive challenges; AND

their siblings. All needs of the children are met during this time including feeding, toileting, socialization,

transfers, assistance with engagement in program activities, and assistance with interactions. The key to

Discovery Club's success are the over 724 student nurses who provide 1:1 support while earning required

clinical hours from this community based setting. There are 6 sites in the Denver Metro, Boulder and Fort

Collins areas for any Discovery Club member to attend. There is a $30 registration fee and we ask that all

forms be submitted prior to attendance. Six hours of affordable, planned respite is hard to find at $30 per

session ($25 each for 2+ children from the same family.) Financial assistance is available. Check out our

website for forms, schedules and more information at www.eastersealscolorado.org.

Call for reservations 303-233-1666 x237.
