Key Components of Professional Development Planning for Technology Integration
Professional Development:1. Is an integral part of the overall technology
plan, identifying learning goals to achieve by using technology.
2. Helps teachers solve instructional issues by indicating how technology can enable or enhance learning.
3. Activities for technology use are linked to content and the curriculum.
4. For technology use should have job-embedded learning experiences, demonstrations, hands-on experiences, planning, reflection, and follow-up.
5. Has a measurable positive impact on student performance.
Implementation of Professional Development for Technology Integration
Technology professional learning:
1. Needs to be on-going, not short, every so often workshops that do not offer opportunity to integrate the learning into practice.
2. Should allow teachers to have access to resources that will support their teaching:
Online Courses;
PLCs;
Instructional Technology Coaches; and
Technical Assistance Support.
3. Should allow teachers to interact with the technology they will be using to experience the effectiveness of the tool and gain a better understanding of how they can effectively use it in their instruction.
