How easy is it to access IUDs and contraceptive implants in Dane County?
Are patients able to get IUDs or contraceptive implants immediately after giving birth?
The UW-Madison Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology conducted a “secret shopper” phone survey of 51 outpatient clinics and interviews with 2 birthing hospitals in Dane County. Callers inquired about access to IUDs and contraceptive implants at each site. Here is what we learned:
of outpatient clinics offer both IUDs and contraceptive implants
But...of clinics require that new patients have 2 appointments to get an IUD or contraceptive implant
days is the average wait time for an initial appointment for a new patient to get an IUD or contraceptive implant
of clinics that offer these methods require patients to be menstruating in order to insert IUDs
Dane County has 2 birthing hospitals
1 offers IUDs and contraceptive implants
after birth (55% of county births)
