• Publishing a report, "Electrical and Information Engineering in Europe, an overview"

• 1st part– State of the art: what is EIE? Its borders?– Available institutions, curricula, diploma, accreditation

procedures...

• 2nd part– implementation of 358, state of the reflections and

implementation within the various European countries– proposition of common curricula, of a guideline for common

curricula ?

Since a long time Some Countries have a two-tier system. (Some of them have done it to allow international students coming):UK, Poland, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, etc … Some governments will impose by law the two-tier system with respect of the Bologna process: Italy, Finland, Netherlands, France, Belgium (Flanders) etc … But other countries leave universities to decide for themselves:Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Portugal etc … Some Governments have not discussed any change on their own system (yet) with respect to the Bologna declaration:UK, Sweden, Spain, etc …

Main Main remarksremarks

Lappeenranta, 8th March 2003

First a two-tier system is not only a 3-5 scheme it could be a 4-1 or 4-2. This could lead to unbalanced equivalencies. but sure it is not a 5 years integrated course (one tier system).

Secondly, some Governments have imposed by law the implantation of the Supplement Diplomat (Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Latvia): The SD will allow and facilitate an evaluation of the student curricula.

Is it possible to make some propositions Is it possible to make some propositions for the implementation of 358 in EIE in for the implementation of 358 in EIE in

Europe ?Europe ?Try to find some "common" curricula• Propose a scheme for some bachelors (3 years) in our

specialities (computer, electronics, automatic control…)• Propose a scheme for some masters (5 years) in our

speciality• What is the interest to keep some curricula/diploma outside the 358

scheme?• Follow the reflection done during INEIT-MUCON ("the minimum as an

engineer has to know")– emerging disciplines– new pedagogy– indispensable fundamentals– behavioural skills– evaluation methods

• Helpful for colleagues who wants to organise new studies with a European view...
