    FINISH THE JOB SCORECARD: EDITION

When it comes to addressing the problem of gun violence in America, the 113thUnited States Congress took no meaningful steps to help keep this nation safer orreduce gun death and injury. In April 2013, the United States Senate failed to passcommon-sense legislation to expand Brady background checks to online and gunshow sales. Similar legislation, H.R. 1565, has also languished in the U.S. House ofRepresentatives where the majority leadership refused to bring the legislation to a

vote or allow even a hearing in committee.

There is a reason why Congress continues to block legislation that can save lives.Members of Congress chose to side with the corporate gun lobby, instead of thepeople who elected them to of ce. More than half of all members of Congresstake money from the corporate gun lobby in exchange for blocking gun violenceprevention legislation. These senators and representatives are Lap Dogs to thecorporate gun lobby, choosing the pro ts of the gun lobby over the safety of theAmerican people.

THE LAP DOG RATINGThe Lap Dog rating for the 113th Congress is based on two basic criteria:

    1) Did you block legislation to expand background checks on gun sales?

    AND

    2) Did you take money from the corporate gun lobby?

A Lap Dog is a member of Congress who blocked legislation to expandbackground checks and took money from the corporate gun lobby.
