What is LAP?
• Learning Assistance Program *federal• Voyager’s focus- reading• Small group instruction• 2-3 days a week for 30 minutes
How do students qualify to participate in LAP?
• 1st Grade: FRY word list + Teacher rating scale• 2nd Grade: STAR reading test and DRA from
end of first grade• 3rd Grade: DIBELS (Dynamic Indicator of…??)

What is a student learning plan?
• Each student has one – in November you will get a copy
• Purpose: inform parents of student’s goals and progress towards those goals
• See sample learning plan
When is progress reported?
• Traditional report card times: November, March, and June (Learning Plans)
• Informally during other times of the year as setup with individual paraeducator or via e-mail
How can I help my child with reading?
• Visit Voyager webpage, teacher links, Ms. Walker, then links page
• Put ….. Link in-• Read, Read, Read!• Ask questions while reading at home
How are student’s needs met?
• Highly individualized plan and instruction• 1st Grade: Read Well- sight words into
sentences, phonemic awareness skills (rhyming, segmenting, blending, etc.)
• 2nd Grade: Read Naturally- strong emphasis on repeated reading (fluency), predictions, and comprehension
• 3rd Grade: Soar to Success- reading strategies (summarizing, retelling, ) and comprehension
