Mission- Lead Stillwater Area Public Schools forward to create an environment of wellness by nurturing lasting change and shifting cultural norms.
Purpose- Advise and advocate for 8 focus areas within the district that were established using the School Health Index
Focus areas for 2015-2016: Health Education, Physical Education and Physical activity, and Environmental/Policy

Environmental Change
• Water fill stations at schools for students and staff
• Stability balls and wiggle chairs in elementary and secondary schools
• Action based learning professional development for teachers
• Active Recess workshops for paraprofessionals
Systems change
• “Less cake. More birthdays” approach.
• Quality physical education
• In addition, a work group created new processes for ordering and selling healthy food options at athletic event concession stands and vending machine options

• Increased revenue by selling healthy options and eliminating traditional items
• Students want to see healthy options sold at concession stands
• Carnivals, fundraising…all can be successful without soda and sweets!
District Wellness Policy
• Policy changes have been proposed, but not yet adopted
• The new proposed policy is moving through the school board approval process
• In addition, the Stillwater Health Advisory Council is working to support implementation and promotion of current wellness policy initiatives that were already in policy
