From the pounding rhythms of the flamenco and the unique experience of the bullfight, to thefood that brings all people together, Spanish culture is defined by a deep passion for life that is contagious to all visitors.

DAY 1 Wednesday, 27 June 2018Relax and enjoy our scheduled flight from Houston to Madrid, Spain

DAY 2 Thursday, 28 June 2018Our International Studies Abroad (ISA) Resident Director will meet us at the airport to escortus to our hotel and will be available to the group throughout the tour..Our private coach will be waiting to transfer us to our hotel in Madrid.Our centrally-located Madrid hotel will be our home for the next two nights. We will havebreakfast at the hotel daily.Spain's capital city of Madrid lies at the heart of the country. Despite its modern andcosmopolitan culture, the city has preserved its traditional architecture and charm. This is acity of great monuments and great art, all against the backdrop of a rich culture and anexciting nightlife.In Madrid, the cost of public transport is included for all group sightseeing. Escorted by ourTour Director, we will be able to experience the city in the same manner as the local people.

DAY 3 Friday, 29 June 2018During the course of our tour we will gain from the knowledge and insight of six half-day localguides while we are here in Spain.Explore the Prado, one of the world’s finest art museums. Inside is a collection of Europeanart from the 12th to 19th centuries based on the Spanish Royal Collection. Our specialist-guided tour will focus on the Spanish masters, such as Velazquez, Goya, and El Greco; andwe will also see works by Raphael, van der Weyden, Bosch, Rubens, Titian, and Caravaggio.El Madrid de los Austrias is a name used for the old centre of Madrid, built during the reign ofthe Habsburg Dynasty, known in Spain as Casa de Austria. The area is located south of theCalle Mayor, in between the Metro stations Sol and Opera. El Madrid de los Austriasfeatures Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, The Andulucian Tavern, Cuchilleros, and Plaza de laVilla.

DAY 4 Saturday, 30 June 2018We will have use of a private coach and driver, while touring for the next two days.Our base tonight will be Toledo (area), where breakfast will be provided at the hotel.The historic city of Toledo, capital of La Mancha, is a cultural fusion of Christian, Arab, andJewish traditions from the Middle Ages. With numerous churches, museums, mosques,synagogues, and artistic treasures, the city has definitely earned its World Heritage Sitedesignation.

DAY 4 Saturday, 30 June 2018Visit the beautiful Monasterio de San Juan de Los Reyes, which was founded by KingFerdinand and Queen Isabella in celebration of the birth of their son, Prince John and for thevictory at the Battle of Toro.Make a brief visit to the Iglesia de Santo Tomé, where we will view El Greco’s masterpiece,The Burial of the Count of Orgaz.Explore the Sinagoga de Santa María La Blanca. In the late 12th century, the Jews of Toledoerected an important synagogue in the almohada style, which employs graceful horseshoearches and ornamental horizontal moldings. Although by the early 15th century it had beenconverted into a Christian church, much of the original remains, including the five naves andelaborate Mudéjar decorations, mosquelike in their effect.Walk to Toledo Cathedral, considered one of the greatest Gothic structures in Spain. Thecathedral actually reflects several architectural styles, and features many art treasures,including: the Transparente, a Last Supper in alabaster, El Greco’s Twelve Apostles andSpoliation of Christ, Goya’s Arrest of Christ on the Mount of Olives, and works by Juan deBorgona. The Treasure Room features a 500-pound, 15th-century gilded monstrance,allegedly made with gold brought back from the New World by Columbus, which is stillcarried through the streets of Toledo during the feast of Corpus Christi.

DAY 5 Sunday, 01 July 2018We continue on our journey from Toledo to Valencia.We will be based for the next seven nights in a homestay with host families in Valencia.The city of Valencia sits on the Mediterranean coast south of Barcelona. Over the centuries ithas been occupied by the Greeks, the Romans, and the Moors, and each group hascontributed to the city’s rich and distinctive culture. Valencia is surrounded by fragrant citrusgroves, and possesses its own local dialect of Valenciano.

DAY 6 Monday, 02 July 2018We will have an orientation meeting to provide students with relevant information and usefultools to familiarize them with their host country and the program ahead.This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Enjoy a Guided Walking Tour of Valencia, where we will pass by the Bull Ring, the greatCathedral, and the Towers of Serrano and Cuarte. While on our walking tour, we will havethe opportunity to enjoy the local fare of horchata and fartons.

DAY 7 Tuesday, 03 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Enjoy some time playing volleyball on one of the beautiful beaches of Valencia.Enjoy taking part in some 'Juegos de mesa', or traditional Spanish table games.

DAY 8 Wednesday, 04 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.We will have hired bikes at our disposal for exploring the Turia Riverbed.

DAY 9 Thursday, 05 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.The Church of San Nicolás de Bari and San Pedro Mártir has recently been restored,revealing a pictorial display that experts have called the Valencian "Sistine Chapel". It isamongst the first twelve Christian parish churches in the city of Valencia following thereconquest of Jaume I in 1238. Erected as a parish church around 1242, it was remodelledat the initiative of the Borja family in the Gothic style between 1419 and 1455, with the Gothicrib vault contracting in the central nave. Between 1690 and 1693, the interior was recoatedwith Baroque decoration and fresco paintings of scenes of the life of San Nicolás de Bari andSan Pedro Mártir, designed by Antonio Palomino and painted by Dionis Vidal. Every Mondaythe Church of San Nicolás de Bari receives hundreds of visitors who make the "Walks ofSaint Nicholas" or Devotion to San Judas Tadeo, patron of impossible causes. Its restorationhas been classified as "the most important architectural and pictorial-ornamental work evercarried out anywhere in the world due to the scale of the work and the techniques used."

DAY 10 Friday, 06 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Spend the day visiting a local farm where you will be able to use local, fresh ingredients tohelp make paella.

DAY 11 Saturday, 07 July 2018We will have use of a private coach and driver, while touring for the next two days.For the next evening we will enjoy the convenience of our centrally-located Barcelona hotel,where daily breakfast will be included.Barcelona is the heart and soul of Cataluña, and, with one of Spain’s largest ports, hasgrown through trade and tourism. The city is characterized by the work of Antonio Gaudí,whose unique worldview created some of Europe’s most distinctive architecture. Thisbeautiful city charms visitors at every turn with its vibrant spirit.In Barcelona, the cost of public transport is included for all group sightseeing. Escorted byour Tour Director, we will be able to experience the city in the same manner as the localpeople.Explore the narrow streets and squares of the Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter). This is the city’soldest quarter, parts of which have survived from the Middle Ages. A few highlights of thewalk will include the Plaça del Pi, the Plaça de Sant Felip Neri, and the magnificent PlaçaSant Jaume.Explore El Born, which is part of the Ciutat Vella (old city) of Barcelona and sits within alarger district officially called Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera. The neighborhood is oneof the most fashionable parts of the city, famous for its international feel and wealth ofcultural attractions.

DAY 12 Sunday, 08 July 2018Experience the cathedral of La Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí’s incomplete masterpiece andone of the more distinctive creations of Spain.Spend time in Parc Güell, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, 'Works of Antoni Gaudi'.Designed primarily by Gaudí, particularly interesting areas of the park include a mosaicpagoda, a lizard fountain spitting water, an undulating bench decorated with ceramicfragments, and an array of unique Doric columns, which are hollow and serve as part ofGaudí's drainage system.We will return to our homestay in Valencia.We will be based for the next five nights in a homestay with host families in Valencia.

DAY 13 Monday, 09 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Explore the City of Arts and Science. Described as “a futuristic city within a city,” the complexwas built to celebrate the arrival of the 21st century. Designed by internationally acclaimedarchitect, artist, engineer, and Valencia native Santiago Calatrava, the complex consists offour main attractions: the L’'Hemesferic, the Principe Felipe Science Museum, theL'’Oceanografic and the Reina Sofia Arts Palace.Explore L'Oceanografic, Europe's largest marine park, which is home to 500 species of fishand other sea creatures from every ocean of the world. We will stroll along the Atlanticthrough a shark tunnel and get a “feel” for marine life at the touch pool. Our visit will introduceus to everything from whales to walruses.We will be able to watch an IMAX film at L'Oceanogràfic.

DAY 14 Tuesday, 10 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Today, we will spend time at one of Valencia's beautiful beaches, where we will have theopportunity for surfing lessons.Enjoy taking part in a quiz game.

DAY 15 Wednesday, 11 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Spend the afternoon with a scenic run around the Turia Riverbed.

DAY 16 Thursday, 12 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.Explore the Bioparc Valencia which is a twenty-five acre park and home to a wide variety ofanimals. You will have the chance to see leopards, lemurs, hyenas, lions, giraffes, gorillas,rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, ostriches, elephants, and so forth living comfortably andcoexisting peacefully in this zoological habitat.

DAY 17 Friday, 13 July 2018This morning, participate in Spanish Language and Culture classes.For our final night in Valencia, we will have a farewell dinner and karaoke party.Our rewarding and enjoyable tour comes to an end as our Tour Director accompanies us tothe airport on our overnight drive from Valencia to Madrid on our final day.

DAY 18 Saturday, 14 July 2018Return home on your flight from Madrid.
