Topic:A ride in the Safari Park

Content Standard:4.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes, poems and songs through performance.

4.3 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to plan, organize and produce creative works for enjoyment.

Learning Standard:4.1.2 Able to sing action songs, recite jazz chants and poems with correct pronunciation, rhythm and intonation.4.3.1 Able to produce simple creative works with guidance based on : (b) poems

Objective:By the end of this lesson, pupils will: a) recite the poem with correct pronunciation, rhythm and intonation b) make masks based on the animals taught in the lesson.

Set induction (5 Minutes)

1. The teacher asks the pupils whether or not they have been to a safari before.2. Pupils answer and describe briefly their experience.

2. What kind of animals you have seen in the safari?

Presentation (15 Minutes) 1. The teacher read the poem on the mahjong paper.2. Pupils repeat by reading the poem after the teacher.3. The teacher points out 4 new words4. The pupils pronounce the words correctly with the teachers guidance.

Instructional Language 1. Okay class, can you guess the title of this poem?

2. I will read the poem first and you will listen.

3. Now, read the first stanza after me.

4. Good, now the girls, read the second stanza together.

5. Good, now the boys, read the third stanza together.

6. Alright, now everyone, read the last stanza together.

7. Do you know what this word means? (pointing on the highlighted words)

8. Now, repeat the words after the teacher. (pupils repeat the words the teacher say with the correct pronunciation)

Guide the students to recite the poem properly. Do this 2 times per stanza if the pupils still cannot follow the rhythm correctly the first time.

Practice (15 Minutes) 1. The teacher asks the pupils the names of the 4 animals.2. The teacher puts the pictures of animals on the side of the poem to help the student guess.3. The teacher asks the pupils to listen to instructions on how to make an animal masks.

Production (20 Minutes)1. The teacher gives out A4 size sheets of manila cards to every pupil.2. The teacher instructs the pupils to cut out the animal masks printed for them.

Instructional Language1. Pupils, I have given you each a sheet of manila card with an animal mask printed on them.2. Now, I want you to make your own animal mask. You only need to cut out the mask printed on the manila card and I will give you some rubber bands so that you can put on the mask.
