opening of the new TimmsCommunity Centre, accordingto Kimberley Constable, actingdeputy library manager at theCity of Langley library.

Together with the City Hall, the library is now accessedthrough the atrium of the newTimms centre.

A bright corridor leadslibrary visitors past the newcafe and reception desk into

    the existing library space.“That’s what’s

so great aboutcommunitycentres andlibraries in thesame building,”Constable said.“We are trying tocreate even morespace for peopleto gather, cometogether to read, chat, just to betogether.”

The old entrance has beenpermanently closed andallows for more room to

reconfigure furniture, shelv-ing, and computer work-stations to create a more com-fortable experience for users. The changes are expected tobegin in the spring of 2016with a focus on creating gath-ering places.

“We do try to provide some-thing for everybody, whetherit’s brand new babies or sen-iors,” Constable said.

    “Even if it’s just getting

people to connect.”The library is certain-

ly not the largest in theLower Mainland, but whatis available to visitors goesfar beyond what is seen inthe building. It is part ofthe Fraser Valley RegionalLibrary’s larger network.

“There is access to so manymore things than what a sin-gle library could hold at any

one time,” noted Constable.“There isaccess toeverything inall 25 libraries. This expandsthe universe ofwhat’s avail-able withoutvisitors havingto travel.”

Each of theseven Langleylibraries hasa particular

focus. The downtown libraryis a community resource cen-tre with a mixture of materials

as well as access to public-usecomputers.“We’re just so excited about

the new community centre,we love that bustle and themix of resources, people, andprograms as well,” Constablesaid.
