Principal’s Report To our many families who are celebrating the beginning of the Year of the Pig today I wish you a Happy Lunar New Year - Xīnnián kuàilè. Start of the year The return of students and the enrolment of Kindergarten and

new students has gone very smoothly. We have 861 students enrolled and we have formed 35 classes Kindergarten to Year 6. Thanks go to all of the school staff, canteen and uniform shop staff and volunteers whose work ensured that students settled quickly into school routines. I appreciate your understanding in this matter. Helping to keep your child safe around school As we commence a new school year I ask that you take some time to reflect and act on the following areas in the interests of helping to keep all of our students safe around school: • Students must not be left at school unsupervised before 8.30 am and after 3.00 pm.

Please remember that if your child is attending music or sport training or programs that are operated by providers, then that provider is responsible for your child at the time of the scheduled lesson or training only. • Please revise stranger danger messages with your child. This includes what they should say and do if approached by an adult who makes them feel uncomfortable.

• If you are spending time at school please go to the office and pick up a visitor’s badge and return it before leaving.

• If you require the use of a toilet while at school please do not use students’ toilets. The male and female toilets behind the hall are opened each day for use by visiting adults.

• Please ensure that every day at school your child has protective clothing of a hat and raincoat. Thank you for your assistance in these matters. Reminder about Information Evenings Information evenings for parents will be held next week. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and hear about the class learning program and procedures. Each session will commence with an introduction by the stagee coordinator in the Hall and will be followed by talks in each class. Times and dates are listed below: Kindergarten Wednesday 13 February 5.30pm Year 1 and 2 Wednesday 13 February 6.15pm Year 3 and 4 Monday 11 February 5.30pm Year 5 and 6 Monday 11 February 6.15pm Communicating with teachers The information sessions at the beginning of the year are when teachers convey information about the class learning program and procedures. On these occasions there isn’t the time to discuss the needs of individual students. However, parent teacher interviews are planned for Weeks 10 and 11 this term (1 April – 10 April). There may be occasions when you wish to convey some information or discuss particular matters with your child’s teacher. While all class and support teachers have a full teaching load with limited release time each week and have many before and after school meetings and school commitments, teachers will respond to your communication. To contact your child’s teacher please send a brief note with your child or leave a phone message with your contact details at the school office (9427 2155). Alternately email the teacher directly or the school at [email protected] and mark it for the attention of the particular teacher you wish to contact. If you wish to discuss a matter with your child’s stage supervisor please note the supervisors for 2019 are:

Kindergarten: Ms Michelle Taylor/ Ms Anna Przybylski Year 1 & 2: Ms Justine Wathen

Year 3 & 4: Ms Kirsty Dreverman Year 5 & 6: Ms Pip King/ Ms Anna Scott Deputy Principal K-2: Ms Beck Myors Deputy Principal 3-6: Ms Christine Scully

Stewart House Clothing Appeal This week empty Stewart House bags will be sent home. We ask that you place in the bag any clothing that you may have at home that has been grown out of, or is no longer in use. The bags can be returned to the side entry of the school office as soon as possible, please, but no later than the morning of Thursday 28 February. For over forty years Stewart House and The Smith Family have worked together on the collection of good quality clothing from schools within New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The funds raised from these collections help to provide support for the 2,000 public school children in need who go to Stewart House each year from many parts of NSW and the ACT. Help us to continue supporting the wonderful work of Stewart House by filling the bag with unwanted clothing and returning it to the side entry of the school office as soon as possible, please, but no later than the morning of Thursday 28 February. DRUMLINE ENROLMENTS ARE STILL OPEN: The percussion drumline was a huge hit with the students, teachers and parents last year! It’s open to all students in years 2-6 and is on Friday lunchtimes, starting week 3. You don’t have to be in any other groups or have any musical experience to be in the drumline. It’s just a great fun and engaging rhythmical experience for everyone involved. Enrol now! Email: [email protected]

Group Parents Thank you again to all who have already volunteered. We still need group parents for:

• Jazz Band • Orchestra • Cello Group Beginners • Beginner Violins

• Intermediate Strings

• Senior Strings

• Beginner Guitars x 2 • Beginner Recorders

• Senior Recorders

Please (pretty please!!) email [email protected] if you can volunteer for your child’s group. Parent Rosters You will receive the Term 1 parent roster for your group shortly. We really appreciated everyone’s support with this. It is a vital part of the programme and essential to our groups running smoothly. If you can’t attend the day you are rostered on you can email your group directly to swap days. There is no need to let the committee know if you swap days. Dates for your diary Assembly performances usually start around week 6 so keep a look out in the Loop for once we start posting dates. We can confirm;

1. Senior Music Camp for Y3 to Y6 music students will be on 2-4th June 2019. Put it in your diary! General enquiries For all general enquiries email [email protected] Please remember – the Music Committee is run by volunteers. (Nearly all of us work full time) We try to get back to everyone in a timely manner but please understand it can sometimes take a while before you will get a response. Here’s to a great 2019! LANE COVE PUBLIC SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the school dress code? Please see the school website for further details http://www.lanecove-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/p-c-services/uniform-shop/uniform-requirements Who is responsible for the Uniform Shop? The Uniform shop is run as a sub-committee of the P&C. The limited profits made by the shop are re-invested in school programs for the benefit of the school community. A part-time paid manager is employed by the Committee who is responsible for daily shop operations along with additional help of volunteers. When is the shop open? The current hours for the shop are below. Please keep an eye out in The Loop newsletter for any changes. Opening Hours: TUES 2.30 - 3.30pm, WED 8.45 - 10.00am, THURS 8.30 - 9.30am How does the shop work on the days it is open? The Uniform Shop is not a self serve shop. We request that customers form a queue to be served by one of our volunteers. Our volunteers will serve customers and provide help with uniform needs and the Uniform Shop Manager assists with all till sales. We can at times get very busy and we thank our customers for their patience whilst waiting to be served. How can I sign up to volunteer in the Uniform Shop? We love our volunteers, in fact we rely on them to keep the shop open 3 days a week and welcome anyone who can spare some time to help. We advertise vacant shifts weekly in The Loop. If you could spare an hour or so, every week, once a month, once a term, once a semester or even only once a year, please email [email protected] If I cannot make it to school during opening hours, can I order uniform items? YES!! There are a few ways to order your uniform items.

The quickest and most convenient way to order all items is through your Munch Monitor account, School Shop.

You can also download the order form from the LCPS website, complete and email to [email protected]

Hard copies are located at the front office. Once filled out, give to front office staff who will pass it on to the Uniform Shop Manager for processing.

Please note we do not take orders over the phone. What is Munch Monitor and how do I order through it? Munch Monitor is like an online shop and can be used for Canteen orders and Uniform Shop orders. Setting up a Munch Monitor account is easy, just follow the below steps. To create a MunchMonitor account: 1. Go to www.munchmonitor.com 2. Username: lcps 3. Password: munch2066 4. Click Sign Up to create your own account Once registered, you can go into school shop and start shopping. Once I have ordered, how does my order get delivered? All orders are processed on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only and are placed in teachers pigeon holes. From here, the teachers will give students their orders or place them in their bag. We rely on teachers greatly to make this system work and thank them for helping provide this service.

Page 10: Lane Cove Loop · Waqas Abbasi Gabby McGibbon . Christine Waterman Lorna McIlveen . Saschi Kapadiya Megan Radja ; Edwina Tyrrell Kirsty Forsey . Sigal Kliger . Vanessa Brownrigg Debbie

What if I need something urgently? Apart from the Uniform Shop Manager, the Uniform Shop relies on volunteers to help keep the shop open and running and that orders are filled. We trust that opening 3 times a week and providing an online ordering system means all needs are met in a timely manner. If I order on a weekend, when can I expect my uniform items? Currently any orders made after 9am on a Thursday are processed the following Tuesday afternoon. We recognise that this is not providing a timely service to our school community due to some orders not getting home until the Wednesday. We want to provide a good service to our community and are therefore reviewing our system. In June, we are trialling a system where we will be asking volunteers to sign up for a shift on a Tuesday morning, 9am - 10am to help process any Munch Monitor orders. This shift will be purely for processing orders and will not be customer service based. We hope this will allow more volunteers to sign up and orders will get home quicker. The Uniform Shop will also trade from 2.30-3.30pm in June as part of this trial. What happens if what I have ordered isn't in stock? We try to ensure we always have stock of the essential uniform items but on occassions, we do run out. If this happens, we will process the order, deliver items we do have in stock and place remaining items on back order. We will notify you of this and if items will be out of stock for an extended period of time, we will keep you updated on delivery. What if an item is the wrong size? We are happy to exchange or refund items if the tags are still on and the product has not been worn. Please visit the shop during opening hours and bring original receipt as proof of purchase. Please note, we do not exchange or refund items bought more than six months before. How is lost property managed? The Uniform Shop is not responsible for lost property. Lost property relies on the school community to look out for lost items and return them to the lost property shelves. Lost property is located on the verandah

behind the Kit Kirkwood Hall/Canteen. A system called RagTagd was introduced to help reduce loss of property and the Uniform Shop was asked to provide uniform items that incorporated this system. What is RagTagd? RagTagd is a system that works by registering uniform items with a specific code through text messaging. This in turn provides the ability to notify owners by text message if lost items have been returned to Lost Property and scanned. The Uniform Shop provides some uniform items, such has hats and jackets, with this system to help return property to their rightful owners. The system only works if lost items have been taken back to the lost property shelves so the RagTagd scanner can read the codes of lost items and send text messages to owners. If an item is taken by someone else and they try to re-register that item, the original owner will receive a message to say someone has tried to re-register the item. This system relies on the school community to help each other by returning lost items to the lost property shelves and to be honest and not take items that do not belong to them. Do you sell second hand uniforms? YES!!! We like to provide second hand uniforms for resale and welcome donations of used uniforms that are in good condition. Donations can be dropped off at the shop during opening hours. Please be mindful that we prefer uniform items that are clean and wearable. Our second hand items are offered for sale in the shop, during shop hours and twice a year we run a second hand stall. Please remember to chose wisely as we cannot offer a refund or exchange on second hand items. Contact Details Uniform Shop Manager, Tarren Smith Convenor, Joanne Dinnie Enquiries can be made on PH: 9427 1024 & 9427 2155 ext 137 Email: [email protected] OR Volunteers: [email protected]

Casual Work School Crossing Supervisors – Work with your community 1 x Casual position – Lane Cove Local Government Area (00006TAB)

An important person in a child’s school life is the School Crossing Supervisor, who ensures they cross the road safely. The role requires minimal hours out of your day and gives something worthwhile back to the community.

All the qualifications you need are community spirit, good communication skills, an alert and professional attitude to work and a reliable personality. The casual hours and school holidays would suit a parent or grandparent, a retiree or anyone wanting meaningful work — but not full-time.
