Zanon received the Garden Writers Association Silver Award of Achievement for Writing - Book (technical/reference). This national award recognizes individuals and companies who achieve the highest levels of talent and professionalism in garden communications. Zanon received the Silver Award of Achievement for his book entitled Landscaping with Trees in the Midwest – A Guide for Residential & Commercial Properties, Ohio University Press. Scott is an accomplished and long-time gardener. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in both Agronomy (turfgrass science) and Horticulture (landscape horticulture) from The Ohio State University. He resides in the Columbus (Ohio) suburb of Upper Arlington, a Tree City USA community where he tends to his vegetable, herb, and perennial gardens. He is currently a member of the Upper Arlington City Tree Commission and was the long-time Chair of the Ohio State University Golf Club. Professional memberships include the American Horticultural Society, Chadwick Arboretum, Garden Writers Association, Ohio Chapter-International Society of Arboriculture, Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association, Ohio Turfgrass Foundation, and the Perennial Plant Association. Since the early 1980s, the GWA Media Awards program has recognized outstanding writing, photography, graphic design and illustration for books, newspaper stories, magazine articles and other works focused on gardening. In recent years, the awards program has expanded to include on-air talent, production and direction for radio, television, video, Internet and other electronic media.
