When we travel we can see different landscapes.

A landscape includes all of the different parts of an

environment, for example, flat lands, rivers,

mountains, valleys, forests, villages, cities,

factoriesLandscapes can be naturalor man-made

(artificial).

Natural landscapes: they are natural because they

have not been influenced by humans. They have many

natural elements and some are very important like

Sierra Nevada or Doana because they are

natural reserves.

Artificial landscapes:these landscapes are created

or modified by human beings. They have lots of

artificial elements. They can be rural or urban.

Andaluca is in the south of the

Iberian Peninsula and has many

different landscapes. It is divided

into three geographical regions.

In the north, the Sierra Morena

mountain range, is one region.

The second region is the Beticmountain range. In the third

region we have the valleys and the

river Guadalquivir. The south of

Andaluca is on the Atlantic and the

Mediterranean coasts. Andaluca has

the onl desert in Euro e in Almeria.

The Sierra Morena mountain range in

the north separates Andalusia from the

plains of Extremadura and Castilla-La

Mancha. These plains are called the

Meseta Central.

The mountains here are not very high

the biggest is La Bauela at 1.323m.

The Betic mountain range contains the

Penibetic Cordillera. The Sierra Nevada

mountains are part of the PenibeticCordillera and have the highest mountain

in the Iberian Peninsula. The highest mountain in the IberianPeninsula is in Andaluca. It is the

Mulhacnwith a summit at 3.478m.

Guadalquivir River in Seville.

Andaluca has rivers that flow into the

Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The

Guadiana, Guadalquivir, Barbate, Guadalete

and Odiel-Tinto flow into the Atlantic.

The Guadiaro, Guadalhorce, Guadalmedina ,

Guadalfeo, Andarax and Almanzora flow into

the Mediterranean. The longest river is the

Guadalquivir its 657km long!

The Atlantic rivers flow through flat

valleys. Their mouths or estuaries form

wetlands. The wetlands of Doana are part

of a famous natural park.

There are two coasts in Andaluca, the

Atlantic coast and the Mediterranean coast.

The Atlantic coast has lots of beaches. TheMediterranean has beaches but also has a

lot of cliffs.

There are lots of tourist resorts in

Andaluca. Some of the famous ones are

Marbella, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and El

Puerto de Santamara.

In a coastal landscape there are beaches, cliffs, coastal villages, the sea,

etc

The coast is the place where the land meets the sea. There are two types

of coasts:

Low coasts: they often have sandy beaches(The Atlantic coast of

Andalusia). High coasts: they often have rocky cliffs(the Mediterranean coast).

There are many different forms of coastal relief.

Cape: it is a part that goes along the sea.

Gulf: it is an entrance of the land to the sea. If it is small, it is called a

bay.

Peninsula: It is a portion of land surrounded by water on all sides except

one. This side is called a isthmus.

Island: It is a portion of land surrounded by water on all sides. Variousislands close to each other form what is called an archipelago.

Archipelago: is a group of islands.

Estuary: is the part of a river which opens into the sea.
