    Mount Fuji,Japan

    There is a very

sharp focus to thisphotograph. You cansee all the cloudsand details on topand around themountain.

The photograph is incolour, but there

isnt a wide range ofcolours. Mostlyblues are seen witha bit of white whichis the snow.

Its horizontallysymmetricalbecause you cansee the reflection inthe water.Everything is evenlyspaced out to helpyou visualise it.

    As its a reflection, you

cant see any shadowsbecause its taken faraway. The time would bein the afternoon becausethe right side of themountain is lit up morethan the left side. You canalso see the light comingthrough.

The mountain is sort of atriangle shape, but if youadd in the reflection, italmost makes a diamond.

It isnt a crowdedphotograph. Its a verycalming photographbecause the mountain isstanding there in its glory.

Your eye getsdrawn to the middleof the photograph, which is where thereflection is, andthen your eyemoves up the sidesof the mountainbecause they arefollowing a line.

The photograph iseye level, so itdoesnt make youfeel inferior to it.There is an equalbetween you andthe mountainbecause the shot isat eye level.

The photograph isall about thebackground. Thereis nothing in theforeground that willdetract you from themain image. That iswhy the image hasbeen taken from far

The textures include the water, the mountain and thesnow. We can all recognise what all three texturesfeel like, so it helps us to imagine what its like to bethere. The textures vary as the snow is soft, themountain is rocky, which is hard and the water isgentle and flowing.

    The photograph has

not been taken toshow the contoursof the mountain. The photograph isbright and you cansee lots of detail.

I think there is verylittle contrast in thisphotograph. Thecolours are all verysimilar and nothingparticularly standsout more than the

    rest.

    Waite has positioned the

camera well so he can fitall of the mountain into oneshot. He may have used awide lens so it would all fit.You can see where thebottom of the mountaintrails off, so I think he tookthis photograph to showthis.

The photograph wasnttaken in a studio, as youcan see. It was taken in anatural environment, inJapan. I think naturalphotograph are betterbecause you can see the

    beauty in which thislandform stands.

The vantage point is very far away. He may havezoomed in a lot because it looks like Waite isstanding on or in the water. The zooming might havehelped to position the mountain and show up all ofthe details.

    Autoire, TheLot, France

There is noblurriness inthe photographso all of it s infocus, so youcan seeeverythingclearly.

There areshadows onthe path wherethe trees are, this is becausethe light isshining through

them, thuscreating thoseshadows. Youknow itsdaytimebecause its abright pictureand everythingis seen clearly.

This is a highkeyphotographbecause thebrightnesshas beentoned up so

    it looks like ahappierphotograph.

The path creates aline for your eye. Itfollows it up theimage into thetrees so itsshowing movementin the photograph.

Its not a verycolourful image, thecolours are veryplain are similar. This might meanthat the photographwas taken in thewinter seasonbecause the treesare white, possibly

The image is a mixture of crowded and space. Before you get to thetrees, it looks like there is a lot of open space to the left of thephotograph, they possibly might be an open field there. When youget to the trees there is a lot of them, so this might make you feelenclosed, but I like the contrast of crowded and space.

The photographlooks like its beentaken on a coldday, so this wouldhelp you to imagewhat it would belike to be there. You would feel thecold wind and thetrees and it wouldeasy to imagewhat its like to bethere.

    There is somedynamic rangeon this

photograph. Thebuilding has adark wall. Thisshows that it isgetting no naturallight because itscoming throughwhere the treesare. The natural

light helps toshow a range oftones.

I dont think itsa busyphotograph. Itlooks like aquiet settingwhich showsitll be apassivephotograph.

Thephotographwas taken ateye level. Thisshows equalbetween thelandscape andthe personlooking at thephotograph.

From thisphotograph, I thinkthat the smallbuilding is the mainfocus of this image. The backgroundplays a huge part ofthis image thoughbecause the path willtake you to thebackground. It tiesthe photographtogether and makesit flow.

Its quite an asymmetricphotograph because nothing isevenly distributed, although, Ithink it could have somesymmetry in it. The buildingmakes the photograph looksbusy at the right side, yet thetrees make it look busy on theleft, but further back. It could bediagonally symmetrical.

The building I think is themain focus of thephotograph. It stands outmore to me because thecolours are slightly bolder,so your eye is drawn moretowards that then the rest of

    the photograph.

There isnt muchcontrast in thisphotograph. Thecolours are all verysimilar, the brightnessis also the samethroughout.

This is a natural setting. Waite wasobviously travelling when he cameacross this spot as its taken inFrance. He was also standing close tothe scene because you can see a lotof detail in the photograph which youmight not get if you were standing far

    away.

The Manger,Uffington,Wiltshire, EnglandThe focus isvaried. I think it

looks a bit blurryat the bottom ofthe photograph,

just before yougo down intothe landscape.

    Also in thebackgroundwhere the

houses are. This might bebecause it is notimportant ionthis photographand he wantedto capture TheManger itself. According tothis photograph,it might havebeen takenearly in themorningbecause of theshadow in theleft of thephotograph. ITshows it was asunny day, somaybe was in

Its a high keyphotograph, but this isbecause of the light andthe colours of thelandscape. The yellowand green coloursmake the photographbrighter. There is some line inthe photograph. Youreye would go down thephotograph and thenfollow the photographto the end of thelandscape.

Its quite colourful, although there isnt arange of colours. Its allyellows and greens, which shows you are inthe countryside. Theblue of the sky doesadd colour to thephotograph and makes

    it look more appealing.

There is a lot of depth to this photograph. The differentheights bring some excitement to the photograph andyour eye follows it. Its an open space so its very empty, but the different heights make it look crowded.

The photograph was taken in a natural setting. Awide lens may have been used to capture a lotof it. A natural photograph helps you to imaginewhat its like to be there.

Waite was obviously ontop of The Mangerwhen taking thisphotograph. I dontthink he would havezoomed in to get thisimage.

As you are quitehigh up, it would

be colder thanon normalground. Youwould feel thewind and thegrass. Thegrass would getsofter as you gohead into The

Manger, because theyellow grass isdryer. Thisshows its asummers dayso you would bewarm,There is a slightdynamic range. The green getsdarker as youmove furtheraway, whereasthe yellow turnsinto a browncolour, movingfrom right to leftin the

    photograph.

Its quite an emptyspace, so it would be apassive photograph. Itsvery limited so I think Iwould be quite calm ifyou were up there.

The angle is taken froma high point. This is ahigh angle shot, whichis not as extreme as abirds eye view. Thismakes the view looksmaller than it is, lessintimidating.I think the backgroundadds something to thephotograph. I think itwould be boring if you

just had The Mangeritself. Waite has includedthe background, I thinkhe did this because italso shows a range ofdepth and colour to theimage.

Its a relativelysymmetrical image. There are sloping sidesat each edge of the

photograph, although atdifferent heights, but itstill shows some

The Manger itself is themain focus of the image. Its much brighter thanthe rest of it, so your eye

    will be drawn to therefirst.

The colours are in the similar tonerange, so I dont think there ismuch composition in thisphotograph.

I think Waite has cleverly taken the photographso it just shows you where the top levels out ateach side. He doesnt want to show too muchbecause he wants you to focus on the middlesection.

Rare 360-degree rainbowover the Na Pali Coast,Kauai Island, Hawaii

It looks like ithas a verysharp focusto thephotograph. You canclearly seeall thedetails and

differentcolour in themountains. Its quite abrightphotograph, especiallybecause ofthe rainbow

in it. It showsthat it issunny whenthephotographis beingtaken. Thenatural lightbrings outthe details inthe

I would say itsa high keyphotograph. The dark bits inthe photographare from thenatural lighting.I think it mayhave beenlightened toshow the rangeof colours.Your eyedefinitely followsthe coast line atthe base of the

mountain. Youreye starts at thebottom andworks upbecause of thecolours, you aredrawn therefirst.

Its quite a colourful photograph. The rainbow adds quite a bit of colour, and it flows with the colours on the mountainside as they are similar. Theblue of the sea stands out because its a deep blue compared to the brightreds and greens on the mountain.

There is a lot of depth to this photograph because the mountain hasdifferent heights. The shadows show where the light is hitting it, so showsyou the different crevices.

The differenttextures inthisphotographwouldinclude thewater andthe rockymountains.

The waterwould begentle andflowingwhilst therockymountainswould behard andrough.

There is somedynamicrange, but thisis because ofthe shadowscaused by thenaturalsunlight. Somebits of the

mountain aredarkerbecause thesunlightdoesnt hit it. It looks like avery passivephotograph. Itlooks quitepeaceful, although I thinkif you were togo at groundlevel, it mightbe very busybecause of allthe greenery.

The photograph was taken from a birds eye view. Rowell might have beenin a helicopter or a small plane to get this photograph. A birds eye viewshow a lot of the scenery.

Thebackground isthe mainimage. Itspans fromtheforeground tothebackgroundmaking it onephotograph.

It has a diagonal symmetry. The mountains are at oneside and the sea it at the other, if you where to divide isdiagonally, each bit would have sea and mountain.

Although your eye is drawn more towards the right sidebecause all the activity is there.

The part you focus on first is the blue sea. Its verydark and probably covers most of the image, so itis the first thing you see.

As this is a landscape photograph, the setting is natural. It was taken fromabove so he could capture more of the landscape.

    Sunrise over Victoria Falls,Zambezi River

I think its a very sharpphotograph, considering it

has been taken in theevening. There is nothingthat stands out more thanthe other featuresbecause of the focus.

The photograph has lightand dark bits of it,although it would beclassed as a dark image. It is either dawn or duskbecause the sun ispeeping from behindwhat look likemountains.I would say this is a lowkey photograph. This isbecause there is quite a

bit of black which makesthe image look darker.

I think there is some form oflines in this photograph. I can

see that your eye would followthe waterfall as it flows down thephotograph. It is a colourful photograph. I likehow there are different coloursas it makes the photographmore exciting to look at.

There is some depth to thisphotograph. As the waterfallflows down the photograph, youfollow it with your eyes as ittakes you deep into thewaterfall. I dont think its toocrowded because there arelimited elements in thephotograph. If anything thewaterfall makes it crowded.

There is some dynamic range in thisphotograph. The colours the sun is producingranges from orange to yellow to pink, showinga range of colours which makes the photographlook nicer.

There isnt too much going on in the photograph, its definitely a passive photograph, it looks like avery peaceful place to be.

  • 8/13/2019 Landscape Photographs

This photograph wouldhave been taken at eyelevel. I think that thisshows the waterfall in a

more peaceful statebecause if you were totake it from the bottom ofthe waterfall, it would bevery intimidating.

The sunrise or sunset isthe background. I likehow its only visible onthe right side of thephotograph becausethere are trees on theleft side and it wouldlook to crowded then.

I cant see any symmetry onthis photograph, although thetop of the waterfall does splitthe photograph in half

    horizontally.

The like the contrast betweenthe colours because the blue ofthe waterfall id dark comparedto the colours the sun gives outwhich are brighter and lighter.

The photographer is in anatural setting. He wouldhave used the naturallight to help create themood in the photograph.

A natural setting helpsyou to feel like you arethere.

The photographer will havebeen on some land opposite thewaterfall. He would have used atripod so the photographwouldnt have any camerashake. He would have alsobeen eye level to it.

Lupines beneath Torres delPaine, Patagonia, Chile

The wholeimage seems tobe in focus.Everythingseems prettysharp and Icant seeanything that isblurry in thisphotograph.

It looks like thisphotograph wastaken in themiddle of the daybecauseeverything isbright and veryvisible. It isdarker in someplaces but thatcould purely bebecause ofshadows orsomethingblocking thenatural light.

I would say thatthis is a highkey photographpurely becauseit is so bright. There is lots ofcolour so its

nice to look atbecause thereis a range ofcolour whichcatches youreye.

    There are nospecific shapes

in thisphotograph butthere is somedepth. Themountains in thebackgroundshow thedifferent heightsand the ridges inthe sides.

Its a very crowded photograph because there is a lot of flowers at thefront of the image, then at the back is trees and the mountains, There issomething going on in every part of the photograph which will keep youinterested.

The grass is quite green so I think it would be soft to touch and it lookslike its a very calm setting so you would feel very calm if you were to bethere.

  • 8/13/2019 Landscape Photographs

    17/17

There is a rangeof dark to lightcolours. In the

flowers one endis brighter thanthe other end,but this could beof shadows orsomethingblocking thenatural light. There is a rangeof colour in themountains andthe grass to;this keeps youinterested.

The photographwas taken at eyelevel using a

tripod to avoidcamera shake. Ifit was taken atground level, looking up at theflowers, it wouldbe a verydifferent picturebecause theflowers would bebig, so wouldlook intimidating.

The background consists of the mountains and the trees. This adds to thephotograph because it brings depth and colour. I think that if were to justbe the flowers, it would be quite a boring photograph.

    The first thing inthe photograph

which catchesyour eye is theflowers. Theyare bright andtake up most ofthe photograph. This would bethe centralfocus.

I like how Rowell has captured this photograph. He included a lot ofelements and this probably would have taken a while to get perfect.

Although the flowers take up most of the image, you are able to see thewhole mountain and even the hills and sky in the small frame he has.

This is obviouslyin a naturalsetting becauseits a landscapephotograph. The

natural lighthelps to create acertain mood. Bytaking aphotograph inthe peak ofmidday, you areable to get a lotof detail as the

    light will hiteverything in
