team master plan: project salvationThe Relief District is the heart of the port as it provides connection and accessibility from all parameters within the site and it is geared towards bringing the community of San Pedro into the heart of the Port by providing an adaptable space and a place to raise awareness towards global relief.

In the midst of figh�ng global relief through the produc�on of fresh water and food, the community of San Pedro will find inner relief as they journey through a series of unique environments created by the surrounding characteris�cs of the plant materials that change in color, form, height, and materiality during the change in seasons. Each season- summer, winter, and spring, are different and create a unique, mys�cal environment. In addi�on, the wetland placed throughout the site is an important element of adding to the relief experience as the community can benefit to the cleaning of the water and the habitat it creates for birds and bu�erflies, crea�ng a harmonious environment.

RELIEF DISTRICTThis is a group masterplan developed by two Landscape Architecture students and two Architecture students and we called our masterplam, project Salvation. Our masterplan proposal for the Port of Los Angeles, a 400 acre site, is consisted of three unique districts: water, relief, and food. Each district will personally engage the users physically and intellectually, by not only providing interactive environments but also by bringing to light, man's dependency on its most important "aid" provider - the ocean. Each member took on a district for our individual designs. My district was the Relief District in which I proposed the Relief Square.

THE GRAIN DIVIDER

MIXING OF GRAIN

(1) Modifying the street grid from bigger blocks to smaller blocks.

In forty years, the proposed grid can expand and change the existing grid in the neighboring blocks and expand to further cities.

Olympic blvd. is the median that breaks the two grains established by the existing city grid allowing the programs to interact, interconnect and fuse together over time.

(5) Educational facilities invite inspired artists, students, and children to invest in the future of Bergamot as an art district.

The massing of all these programs centralizes the site as a dense mix-use art district.

(2) Adding work and living spaces begin to densify the site through the number of people and amount of activities.

(3) Mix-use retail spaces begin to really densify the site through the number of local residents and visitors and high activity.

ENTRANCE TO THE ALLEYMAKING THE MOST OF THE STREETS

All alleys in the site are utilized for a purpose- informal and formal spaces, urban runoff catchment, and for pedestrian circulation throughout the site. Different scales of alleys determine the function and the aesthetics of the space. In addition, the spaces are determined by the mix use of program types which gives each alley its character and spatial quality.

RETAILMAKING THE MOST OF THE STREETS

The first floor of the buildings are utilizied for retail and they frame each alley creating a dense and alive space as well providing a variety of options for one program type whitin one area.

PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR CIRCULATIONMAKING THE MOST OF THE STREETS

Cross between pedestrian and vehicular circulation provides high flexibility in pedestrian flow throughout the site. The main pedestrian path connects all the spaces together and provides the view and feel of the linear organization of buildings and streets.
