Landscape Architecture MA /

This creative and reflective Master's degreeconsiders interventions in the landscape throughimaginative design, strategic thinking and technicalknowledge. Landscape architects shape the futureof cities and rural environments alike.

 Degree summary 

You will gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the disciplineof landscape architecture and the related profession, informed bycurrent practice, scholarship and research. With design-led teachingand learning, you will learn how to design, using a range of techniquesand research methods, equipping you to progress towards a career as alandscape architect.

// Develop your design skills within The Bartlett School of Architecture'sunique design studio culture. In the design studio, you will developindividual projects, documented in design portfolios, to increasinglevels of complexity and ambition as the programme progresses,supported by tutorials, seminars, crits and interim reviews.

// You will work with a team of landscape architects, researchers andbuilt environment professionals to inform your creative designpractices. The Bartlett School of Architecture is renowned forpreparing students for successful careers and has been ranked asthe top architecture school by the Architects' Journal AJ100 forfourteen consecutive years and as the top place to studyarchitecture in Europe by the QS World University Rankings bySubject, 2017.

// This programme empowers students with the contextual knowledgeof the history and theory of landscape architecture, alongside theability to apply research to design and professional scenarios, bethey speculative, theoretical or practical.

All assessed works are forms of coursework. These include designportfolios, essays, illustrated reports and diaries. You will receiveformative feedback on their work in progress via tutorials and seminars,as well as written reports.

There is one field trip (optional) annually as part of the programme.

Maximum cost to the student is £500

Accreditation

The programme has secured Landscape Institute (LI) CandidateAccreditation status and is progressing to apply for full LI Accreditationstatus upon graduation of the first cohort

 Degree structure 

Mode: Full-time: 1 year

Location: London, Bloomsbury

This is a one year, 180-credit Master's degree. This programme has fivemodules, all of which are mandatory.

A Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) is also offered.

A Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits) is also offered.

 Your career

Employability

You will gain a highly specialist skill set with this programme. As well asthe ability to design using a range of techniques and research methods,and an in-depth knowledge of the discipline of landscape architecture,you will develop skills in creative problem solving, making decisions andpropositions in complex, challenging, ambiguous and open-endedsituations.

You will also develop skills in communicating, presenting, advocating,interrelating and responding to people from a wide variety ofbackgrounds within a professional context.

 Entry requirements 

You will need a strong design portfolio and either a first or second-classLandscape Institute accredited UK Bachelor's degree in landscapearchitecture or similar, or an overseas qualification of an equivalentstandard. Candidates who hold another qualification obtained byexamination and approved by UCL together with at least three years ofappropriate professional experience may also be considered.

English language proficiency level

If your education has not been conducted in the English language, youwill be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level ofEnglish proficiency.

The level of English language proficiency for this programme is:Standard.
