There are often many questions when it comes to farm lease arrangements, rent calculation and the typical, “who pays for what?”

The workshop will focus on relationships between the landlord and tenant, as well as practices to help with communication strategies and

rental arrangements.

A workshop on understanding, developing and implementing flexible and alternative cash leases. Flexible cash leasing is not new to

Nebraska or agriculture in general. These provisions, often inserted into new and existing cash leases are designed with two purposes in

mind:

• Provide risk management options for those renting agricultural land.• Provide potential for added rent income for those owning

agricultural land.

Agriculture is a challenging industry and farm owners and operators are inherently requried to understand and make

decisions based on a wide range of topics. There is not a single educational event that can prepare owners and operators for the

decisions they need to make, thus the Successful Farmer Series was created.

Workshops are organized by topic, so pick the workshops most relevant to you. Attendees will be able to interact with other local producers and landowners, as well as UNL and industry experts.

Speakers: Roger Elmore, Cropping Systems Agronomist Paul Jasa, Extension Engineer Teshome Regassa, Research Assistant Professor

The corn and soybean rotation is the most common rotation in southeast Nebraska; however, incorporating cover crops into this rotation can be challenging. Adding wheat to your operation may

provide a window for cover crops, but it may be challenging to take on a new crop. Specialists from the University of

Nebraska-Lincoln will focus on tips for growing cover crops and wheat in southeast Nebraska, as well as incorporating cover crops and wheat into your current practices. You will be able to interact with the speakers and invited topic experts, as well as other local

producers and landowners to learn how this may work in your operation.

Speakers: Tamra Jackson-Ziems, Plant Pathologist Haishun Yang, Crop Simulation Modeler Robert Wright, Field Crops Specialist

Corn is the number one crop grown in Nebraska by overall value of production and in the number of acres planted. Growing corn is

second nature to many owners and operators, but there is always new technology or research that can help boost your

profitability. This workshop will cover corn diseases, irrigation and water management, insect management and more. We will have multiple corn production experts in the audience to answer your

questions throughout the morning.

This workshop is devoted entirely to soybean production. Soybeans are second only to corn in acres planted in Nebraska at around 5.3 million acres. Topics on weed management strategies, successful production practices, biostimulants and more will be covered to help you increase your profitability on your soybean

acres. We will also have other soybean production experts in at-tendance to answer any questions you might have.

Speakers: Amit Jhala, Weed Management Specialist Michael Rethwisch, Extension Educator Patricio Grassini, Cropping Systems Agronomist Speakers: Joe Luck, Precision Ag Engineer

Wayne Woldt, Water Resource Engineer Tyler Williams, Extension Educator

Ever wonder where/how the latest ag technology package or drone could fit into your operation? Agricultural technology always

seems to be a fairly new topic, but it is one that is certainly not going away. Many companies are now providing ag management

information and data through the use of sensors, virtual agronomy information, mobile apps and ag software to help you

make decisions on your operation. There are many questions surrounding this topic, so UNL experts will be able to provide

information about their knowledge and experiences in this industry.

Farm financial management is a topic that does not need an explanation. Crop insurance, farm bill, marketing and other

economic management decisions can make or break an operation, especially when commodity prices are not the best. Speakers will discuss insurance options and decisions, marketing strategies, as

well as answer your questions regarding the multitude of economic decisions you face on your operation. Don’t miss out on this

opportunity to increase your farm financial management knowledge and skills.

As we know, climate of Nebraska and our soil determine the type of crops we grow and how we manage our land. The quote, dated back to 400 B.C.: “To be a successful farmer, one must first know

the nature of the soil” still holds true today. Farmers and landowners know the value of their soil and we continue to learn more about the soil that is the foundation of our farms. Speakers will focus on the continued research on soil properties and how

to enhance those on your operation, as well as the latest climate resources and spring/summer climate outlook.
