“We may see the beginning of a new journeybetween India & Japan, which will draw strengthfrom our past progress, and will move aheadwith new confidence and energy”

-Narendra Modi

Onam is a Hindufestival, celebrated with agreat enthusiasmthroughout Keralabetween August andSeptember. Onam is themost popular festival ofKerala. This is celebratedfor a period of ten days.Every year this festival fallson the Malayalam monthof Chingam - betweenAugust and September andalso known as the harvestfestival of Kerala.

Onam is one of themost ancient festivalswhich is still celebratedwith a great devotion.Onam marks thehomecoming of King Mahabali, a legendary king, who ruled Kerala in ancient times. That period wasbelieved to be the golden age of Karala, people were happy, free from harm and complete harmonyand prosperity was there. This golden age ended when lord Vamana (an avatar of Lord Vishnu)pushed King Mahabali, deep into the earth. Satisfied by Mahabali’s honesty and generosity, the lordgranted him a wish that he can visit his kingdom and dear subjects once in a year.

Onam is celebrated for ten days - Atham is the first day and Thiruvonam is the final day of thecelebration. People wear new clothes, decorate their houses and put flower carpet called ‘Pookalam’in front of their houses, to welcome the King Mahabali. Special pujas are offered in the temples in earlymorning and younger members take blessings and gifts from the elder members of the family. DuringOnam traditional rituals are performed followed by a lavish feast with twenty-one homemade curriesand sweet payasam on plantain leaf.

Spectacular Carnivals of elephants, fireworks, boat races, music and the famous Kathakalli danceare traditionally associated with this festival.

.A Government of the people,

by the people, and for the people100 days have passed. People are witnessing the progress and the pace of developmentin India. They are now assured that the credibility of India will increase. But the oppositionparticularly Congress is looking at BJP led NDA government with their blinkered vision. Thereality is that Congress is in shock. SP is worried. Lalu is in hospital. Mayawati and NitishKumar are blaming communalism. Till recently the opposition was thinking that these peoplewill not be able to run the government but now they are astonished. The reality is that allministers and MPs including the Prime Minister are working on the positive line of development.BJP led NDA government is moving towards novel ideas while addressing fundamental socialproblems.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the day of his oath taking ceremony to 15th Augusthas utilized every minute of every day for the nation. The most important thing that hashappened in the last 100 days is that the decline in the credibility of Indian politics, politiciansand political parties has been arrested and the faith of the Indians is getting restored. Indiansdipped in pessimism, negativity and distress have changed their thinking now. The lost faithhas been restored. The role of the faith in democracy is important.

The union cabinet was formed on 26th May and BJP led NDA government started functioningfrom 27th May itself. By constituting SIT to bring back black money the nation was assuredthat the curtain from the black money will be removed.

In the oath taking ceremony of Modi government the message was sent that we want betterrelations with our neighbours. He began it with his trip to Nepal and Bhutan. Steps were takenwith Pakistan for dialogue. But when Pakistan talked with separatists India made it clear thatthis process cannot move further. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that we will not showeye to anyone nor will we bow our heads but we will talk with others on the terms of equality. For the first time Pakistan came to know that the old ways are not going to work anymore. Ifdialogue is to take place then it is only with India and not with the separatists. If Pakistan isviolating the ceasefire on the border then India will give a fitting reply. India has said it in clearterms that if you violate then there will be no dialogue. The dignity of India has increased fromthese incidents.

The Congress President is now raising the issue of price rise. She has no idea that the entireministry is committed to control the price rise. We want to ask Smt. Sonia Gandhi whether theprice of onion and potato not brought under control? Has the price of wheat, rice, oil, flourand pulses risen? Has the price of tomato not been brought under control? The price rise inthe country has been brought under control. On the other side has the price of petrol not beenreduced for two times in one month? First time the price was cut by Rs. 2.86. For the secondtime price of petrol was reduced by Rs. 1.82. Is it not an achievement for BJP led NDAgovernment to reduce the price of petrol by Rs. 4.68 in one month? The reduction of the priceof LPG cylinders by nineteen rupees per cylinder is an achievement in itself. What Soniaji andher party will say on these issues? Had there been a good and fair opposition in the countryit would have congratulated the PM in Japan for his successful trip. Alas, the opposition couldhave done this! All the opposition parties including Congress will have to understand that ShriNarendra Modi is not the Prime Minister of BJP but of the entire country.

Narendra Modi has also taken care so that the dignity of border, parliament, constitutionand army is not undermined. Today a common man of India can give suggestions to PrimeMinster on mygov.nic.in. India belongs to everyone.

What the Congress can say? During their rule they polluted the Ganga and no one knows where the moneywent which came for cleaning the river. Prime Minister has himself said that Ma Ganga has called him. After thata workplan has been made for cleaning the Ganga. Five ministries have been asked to work on it.

Some people used to think about the plan of Smart City but Narendra Maodi has taken steps to realize thisdream.

Change in the work culture of secretariats and government departments is taking place. Cleanliness drivehas been emphasised. To pay special attention towards cleanliness was not only talked about but work has beenstarted on it. Congress is failing to digest the announcement of starting cleanliness drive from 2nd October theday of Gandhi Jayanti. Prime Minister by saying about finding ways out for the problem of toilets for girls inschools from the ramparts of the Red Fort tried to touch the social problem.

The announcement to pay special attention to the half of the population (girls-women) of India is relatedto Indian samsakar. Narendra Modi who proved to be an able administrator of Gujarat is trying to run thegovernment with skill and acumen. He said that if the 125 crore people of the country will move one step furtherthen the entire country will move 125 crore steps ahead. Everyone’s cooperation is required for development. He also appealed to the opposition in the country to come together for development.

The country has appreciated the decision to bring an end to Planning Commission which has become aliability for the nation and to replace it with new institution as per the current needs.

By enabling the poor of the country to open accounts in the bank under Jan Dhan Yojana they were broughtin the level where they were not able to reach for years. Narendra Modi has got hold of the mind, soul and originalnature of India. He said that my government is committed to the poor. He wants to change the fate of theimpoverished poor of the country. Jan Dhan Yojana is an effective step in that direction.

In the rural areas launching of hi-speed internet facility has been announced. Along with this through theplatform of Digital India the facilities of telemedicine and education is planned. The bill for the appointment ofjudges which the Congress government could not bring for last twenty years the Modi government got itintroduced and passed in both the houses of parliament within two days. The decision to allow FDI in defenceand railways in big ways is historic.

It has been decided to focus on pilgrimage and tourism. The announcements which were made in Rail budgetare getting fulfilled. 57 new trains which were announced in the budget have been started from 1st September.

Narendra Modi government not only makes announcements but also fulfills them. India has refused to signin the WTO the Global Trade Pact which was pending for a long time. India was not ready to sign this pact withouthaving any solution on Public Stock Holding for food security.

The role in BRICS was successful. Modi himself stole the show. All the five countries agreed to open theHeadquarter of BRICS Bank in Shanghai and India is to head it for the first time.

The skill which External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj displayed during Iraq crisis was seen by thecountry. Entire country appreciated the manner in which the Indians were rescued from the kidnappers.

When the Finance Minster of India Shri Arun Jaitley placed the general budget before the country thegeneral people found themselves in it for the first time. General budget was for everyone – poor, rich, youth, women, farmers, labourers including entrepreneurs. The country appreciated the efforts of Shri Arun Jaitley. Thegeneral budget was for the people of India. The media appreciated it without any reservations.

If we write about the decisions taken in 100 days then a lot will have to be written. For any government firsthundred days are ordinary ones. But it was not an ordinary thing to win the trust of the nation in these hundreddays. The beginning shows the things to come in the future. The faith which the BJP led NDA government haswon in hundred days is extra ordinary. The government earlier used to remain aloof from the people and peoplealso used to remain away from the government. But this is the success of the Modi government that it gotconnected with the people and people also got connected with the government. Today people are feeling proudof Modi government. They have a feeling that the one chosen by them is proving himself on every parameter.

The government which connects with the soul of the people becomes a people’s government. Modigovernment is gradually becoming a people’s government. It is a government of the people, by the people, andfor the people

Elaborating the benefitsunder PMJDY, the PrimeMinister said this was not a merebank account, but had otherbenefits including an RuPaydebit card, Rs 1 lakh accidentinsurance cover, and anadditional Rs. 30,000/- lifeinsurance cover for thoseopening bank accounts beforeJanuary 26th, 2015. He said theaccount performance would bemonitored and overdraft facilitywould be given. The PrimeMinister said he had sent 7.25lakh bank employees, exhortingthem to help reach the target of7.5 crore bank accounts, andbring freedom from financialuntouchability.

The Prime Minister referredto the five beneficiary coupleswho had received accountopening kits in today’s event atVigyan Bhawan, and said theladies appeared to have dressedfor a festival. He said they knewthat there could be no biggerfestival than the opening of a bankaccount for empowering women.

The Prime Minister saidwhen banks were nationalizedin 1969, it was done with theobjective of bringing people intothe economic mainstream. Butthat objective had not beenachieved till date. After 68 yearsof independence, not even 68%of India’s population had accessto banking, he added. He said itis easy for the rich to get a loanat low interest rates. But the poorare forced to seek loans frommoney-lenders at five times therate charged to the rich. Is it notthe responsibility of the banking

industry to provide bankingaccess to the poor, the PrimeMinister asked.

The Prime Ministerillustrated his point through theexample of a mother savingmoney and being forced to hide itsomewhere within the house. Hesaid the bank officials who hadopened an account for such amother, had been blessed today.

He said a breakthrough wasrequired to overcome the viciouscycle of poverty and debt, andthat breakthrough had beenachieved. He said there weresimilarities between the poorgetting access to mobiletelephones, and getting access todebit cards. They both had theeffect of instilling confidence andpride among the poor, he added.

The Prime Minister referredto the ancient Sanskrit verse:Sukhasya Moolam Dharma,Dharmasya Moolam Artha,Arthasya Moolam Rajyam – whichputs the onus on the state toinvolve people in economicactivity. “This Government hasaccepted this responsibility,” the

BJP will be stronger in all southernstates, including Kerala : Amit Shah

On a mission to help BJP find a strong footholdin Kerala, BJP National President Shri Amit Shahon 01 September in Thiruvananthapuram criticized

the communal appeasement politics of Congress’sUDF and CPM-led LDF and alleged that they wereonly pursuing vote bank politics and neglectingthe state’s development.

Addressing a special convention of partyfunctionaries’ right from grass roots level on hismaiden visit to the state after taking charge as BJPpresident, he said this was evident from theeagerness shown by both the coalitions for therelease of Kerala-based PDP leader Abdul NasserMadani, facing trial in Bangalore bomb blasts case.

Recalling the BJP’s central slogan of“Congress-free India”, he said if this goal was tobe achieved fully, Congress should be defeated inKerala also and urged party workers to gear up toface the civic elections early next year and theassembly polls in 2016 in the state, where it hasconsistently failed to make electoral breakthrough.

Shri Shah made it clear that his objective wasto make the BJP stronger in all southern states, including Kerala and also Odisha, Assam andWest Bengal and undoubtedly BJP will be strongerin all southern states, including Kerala.

Targeting both Congress and Left, he said,“When the LDF was in power, a resolution waspassed by the state assembly unanimously for

Madani’s release. “Going a step further, theCongress chief minister (Omen Chandy) went allthe way to Bangalore to meet the PDP leader.Madani is actually a symbol of the politics ofcommunal appeasement pursued by both thefronts.”

Shri Shah also said, “It is surprising thatCongress, while boasting of being secular, was

having partnership withIndian Union MuslimLeague (IUML) in Kerala.”

While failing to leadthe state to development, these coalitions thatalternated in power hadalso indulged incorruption and “scams aresurfacing one by one”, healleged.

On the performance ofthe Narendra Modi

Government in its first 100 days, he said the policyinitiatives indicated the beginning of good daysahead. If the first things that the previous UPAregime did on coming to power was to repealPOTA as part of its “communal appeasementpolicy”, one of the first steps of the present NDAGovernment was to make efforts to bring back blackmoney stashed in banks abroad. This clearlyshows the qualitative difference between the twoministries, he said.

Rubbishing the opposition charge that ModiGovernment had failed to rein in prices of essentialcommodities, he said the truth was that inflationindex had come down from nine to six per cent.

Another pointer of the country going in theright direction was the growth rate touching 5.7per cent and foreign investment crossing USD 320million as revealed by recent statistics, he said.

Referring to the foreign policy, he said thedecision to call off talks with Pakistan was a rightone in view of the neighbouring country havingparleys with separatists in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, Shri Shah addressed theBJP state committee members and exhorted themto stay united and work for strengthening the partyin all tiers.

End decades-old dynastic rule andgive mandate to BJP so that J&K is

brought at par with other StatesBJP National President Shri Amit Shah, along

with party National General Secretaries Shri JPNadda and Shri Ram Madhav, in-charge J&K ShriAvinas Rai Khanna and co-in-charge Shri RP

Singh, reached Jammu on July 24 for a two-dayvisit to have discussions with the local partyleadership on poll preparations for the upcomingcrucial Assembly elections, as also to have an on-the-spot assessment of the prevailing situationalong the international border and elsewhere inthe State.

The BJP has declared 44+ as its mission for theupcoming Assembly election and its senior leaders, including Ministers from the Centre and BJP-ruledStates, have been crisscrossing the State for almosta month now to meet with the people and prepareground so that the stated goal is achieved and theBJP government formed in the state for the firsttime in 66 years.

The BJP leaders during all these visitslambasted the NC-Congress coalition Governmentfor its failure to deliver on any front, for rampantcorruption, for trust-deficit and governance-deficitand for its failure to neutralise fissiparous andcommunal tendencies in the Valley. They alsounderscored the need for NC-Congress-free J&K.

During the visit Shri Amit Shah, urged thepeople of the State to end the decades-old dynastic

rule and give mandate to the BJP so that the Stateis brought at par with other States of the countryand social, economic and political life of its peopleis regenerated. He made these statements whileaddressing a huge public meeting at Kathua(Jammu) on August 25.

On August 9 also, when he formally took overas party president in the party’s national councilmeet, Shri Amit Shah had urged party leaders andworkers to get united and work with a single-

minded devotion to end thedynastic rule of the Abdullahs(Farooq Abdullah and OmarAbdullah) and Muftis (MuftiMohammad Sayeed andMehbooba Mufti), as they haveharmed the State’s society, economy and polity andprospered at the cost of thepeople, the State and the nation.

It bears recalling that onMarch 25, 2013, Omar Abdullahhad also used the floor of theAssembly to taunt the IndianParliament by questioning itsMarch 15 unanimous resolutionon Pakistan and J&K and

shamelessly said that “by repeating the wordsatoot ang (integral part) you cannot change thepolitical status of the State”. Besides, he had said,“The State had only acceded and not merged withIndia”. The Indian Parliament adopted a resolutiontwo days after Pakistan National Assemblyadopted anti-India resolution on J&K. The mannerin which Omar Abdullah questioned theParliamentary resolution was nothing less than amanifestation of his hatred for India and everythingIndian, including the Indian Constitution. BetweenJanuary 2009 and March 25, 2013 and in betweenMarch 25, 2013 and till date, he committed manyacts — all calculated to harm India and promotecommunalism and separatism.

Earlier Shri Amit Shah was accorded a verywarm welcome when he reached Jammu. His visithas electrified the political scene of Jammu &Kashmir, enthused party workers and supportsand rattled and shattered the unpopular andlooked-down-upon NC and the Congressleadership. The kind of media attention he drewduring these two days was indeed remarkable.

That the Modi sarkar willre-establish globalconfidence in the Indian

growth story by pressing theaccelerator was well understoodoverseas. Within the country, themega vote of confidence the partywon in May demolished alldoubts abroad. Soon, traditionalforeign critics, like some USpolitical leaders, turnedadmirers of Prime MinisterNarendra Modi within monthsof the new Government takingcharge.

But even within the country, nobody expected the PrimeMinister to drive so fast onforeign policy, even though theparade of foreign top dignitariesat his swearing-in may did hintat a clutch of new initiatives. Therapidity of the visits to Bhutanand Nepal changed all that. These visits carried the imprintof the man who meant business, and was different from the staidand often inane nature of suchexchanges.

During both visits, Mr Modireceived much warmth onaccount of being a BharatiyaPrime Minister who had the fullbacking of a billion people.Supporting his diplomatic effortshas been External AffairsMinister Sushma Swaraj. Shetravelled to Nepal before Mr

Modi and has also visitedVietnam. In Delhi, she has hostedAfghan, British, French, US andGerman leaders as well.

The cancellation of theForeign Secretary level talks withPakistan also sent the messagethat this Government has steelin its handshake — no wobbly,namby-pambies thatcharacterised Mr ManmohanSingh and that had baffled hisown foreign policyestablishment, as at Sharam-el-Sheik in Egypt.

Now on his visit to Japan asPrime Minister, Mr Modi hasexpectant Nippon corporatehonchos eager to listen, besidehis India-loving counterpart inShinzo Abe.

Three influential topcompany CEOs have alreadyinteracted with Mr Modi in NewDelhi in the last three months:

Tadashi Yanai, chairman ofgarment conglomerate UNIQLO,Ken Kobyashi, president andCEO of one of the largest businessgroup Mitsubishi, OsamuSuzuki, chairman and CEO ofSuzuki Motor Corporation, besides other Japanese corporateworthies.

So, Japan’s corporate worldhas already an intimateassessment of the newGovernment, and more, the newleadership in New Delhi even asthe Prime Minister landed.

So there is already a listeningJapan Inc to analyse and respondto the package Mr Modi bringsinto Tokyo. The Prime Ministerhas his sight far and wide andhigh as he talks about a Japanesecommitment for 1.7 trilliondollars over five years in thevarious infrastructure initiativeson which his own developmentprogramme is based.

The policy flip-flops of theprevious Government was notlittle responsible for Japaneseforeign direct investmentslumping from two billiondollars in 2011-12 to 1.3 billiondollars in 2012-13. With 1072Japanese companies in India, this is just peanuts.

companies here so FDI could alsodouble in five years. Theprospects of more Indo-Japanesejoint ventures is clearly seen asan advantage to India not onlyin terms of FDI but also intechnology transfers, as Tokyomoves into top gear ofmanufacturing and constructiontechnologies using artificialintelligence. The Prime Ministerhas planned this visit in greatdetail. It is not without reasonthat the bulk of the top deck ofIndia Inc is travelling with himto Tokyo.

Signalling welcome ofJapanese private capital as wellas development aid to the massiveinfrastructure plans of the Modi-led Government, the up to 100per cent FDI in railways wasnotified on the eve of the visit.

The vast plan of introducingbullet trains not just betweenMumbai and Ahmedabad butalso between several other majorroutes like Delhi-Chandigarhand Chennai-Bangalore-Mysoreis being readied in Rail Bhavan. The private enterprisespokesbody, Assocham, hassubmitted a detailed railwaymega plan: Complete separationof passenger and goods trafficwith building more high speedfreight corridors with industrialcities along and bullet trainsconnecting several twin megacities.

The Japan InternationalCooperation Agency is likely tobe the nodal body for the bigforeign direct investment in therailway corridor projects. TheMumbai-Ahmedabad bullettrain track and rolling stocksalone costing over Rs 60,000crore. “I think this Governmenthas made a good start and the

message is clear”, saysTakeshiko Nakao, president ofthe Asian Development Bank.

The more importantoutcome of the visit could be astrategic line-up where Indiaand Japan co-ordinate forensuring that the sea trade routesin East and South East Asian sea-lanes is free from interference ofany kind, especially from China.

The visit is also taking placeat a time when there is ‘collectiveunease over China’sbelligerence’. And this unease isdespite there being severalplatforms for dialogue like theEast Asia Forum, in which Chinaas well as India and other Asiancountries play important rolealong with US and Russia.

Mr Modi himself hasextended a hand of friendshiptowards China, and a visit fromPresident Xi to India is inplanning. But with the ModiGovernment clearly plunging forup to 49 per cent FDI in defenceproduction, there is a goodopening now for Japanesetechnology in defence equipmentproduction that could havedeeper implications. This is an

angle that would be closelyexamined after the contours ofModi-Abe interaction get known.

How far the Prime Ministerwould be able to remove thehistoric Japanese objection tonuclear weapon production andnuclear material trade would beanother area of importance infurthering Indo-Japanesecollaboration.

There is a clear divide withinJapan on nuclear energyprogrammes after whathappened at Fukushima fouryears ago. On the other hand,Japan is the world’s largestimporter of rare earth materials— many of which India couldsupply, and some of them havinga critical role to play in nuclearenergy production. Japandesperately needs to free itselffrom dependence on China inrare earth supplies.

In key areas like nuclearsupplies, rare earth imports fromIndia, Japanese capital andtechnology for the high growthtrajectory of the ModiGovernment and the centralvision of Prime Minister Modi ashe looks East more and more fora stable relationship of security, especially of sea lanes and opentrade, the success rate woulddepend much on the measure ofgoodwill personally between thePrime Ministers of the twocountries.

Mr Abe is on record evenduring his first stint in power in2007 as having declared that “astrong India is in the best interestof Japan”. For Mr Modi, theJapanese response would also bea message to global powers thatIndia is re-starting a role as aglobal economic power.

Ever since Narendra Modi assumed Office,he has been continuing his focus on‘Minimum Government and Maximum

Governance’ in every step.On September 2, Modi Sarkar completes 100

days in Office. Prime Minister Narendra Modi andhis Council of Ministers took Oath of Office andSecrecy on May 26, 10 days after the verdict 2014was announced.

News starved media, joined by the Congressand its cohorts are desperately searching for thereport card of Narendra Modi Government as itenters 100 days in the Office.

Honestly, all an independent commentatorcould say for now is that the story of India haschanged between before and after May 26, the dayNarendra Damodardas Modi tookchange as India’s 14th PrimeMinister. He is simply focusingon fixing the 10-year-long policyparalysis of the previous UPAdispensation. His 100 days ofwork shows Modi Sarkar is on theright track.

Narendra Modi Governmenthas shouldered loads of hopesand aspirations of the people. ThePrime Minister looks confident tofulfill those hopes andaspirations. In the last 100 days, the nation has moved from an eraof policy paralysis to an era ofpolicy priorities. In 100 days inOffice, the Narendra ModiGovernment has successfullyprepared a roadmap for India’sdevelopment.

Ever since Modi took the reins,he has been continuing his focuson ‘Minimum Government andMaximum Governance’ in everystep. Modi Government’s sheet

anchor for governance ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’(Together with all, development for all) has instilleda sense of confidence among the citizens.Undoubtedly, a pro-active approach has beenadopted by the Government to fulfill the aspirationsof the people. There has been a major shift in workculture across Ministries. A new sense ofaccountability has gripped the bureaucracy. Thereis a tremendous amount of pressures on both theMinisters and the bureaucrats to fulfill the tide ofexpectations of people.

The following are the 10 things Modi Sarkarhas achieved in its 100 days in Office:1. Bringing back Black Money1. Bringing back Black Money1. Bringing back Black Money1. Bringing back Black Money1. Bringing back Black Money

up the best growth figures in two-and-a-half years. The GDP growthin April-June quarter is the highestin the last nine quarters. This is asufficient indication that economyis turning around under theleadership of Narendra Modi.3. Jan Dhan Yojana3. Jan Dhan Yojana3. Jan Dhan Yojana3. Jan Dhan Yojana3. Jan Dhan Yojana

Modi Sarkar has rolled out thePradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. The ambitious scheme aims at acomprehensive financialinclusion by opening of bankaccounts of people who have beenleft out in the process so far. Onthe inauguration day, a record 1.5crore bank accounts were openedunder this scheme.4. Infrastructuraldevelopment

The focal point of the UnionBudget 2014 was infrastructure, asector which was neglected in thelast 10 years under the Congress-led UPA rule. The Government has attracted large-scaleinvestments in infrastructural sector by revivingthe Special Economic Zone (SEZ), streamliningthe Public Private Partnership (PPP) models andcreating Infrastructural Investment Trusts (InvITs).Work for the ambitious Diamond Quadrilateralrail network — connecting major metros acrossthe country — is in the full swing. The NarendraModi Government has laid the groundwork for itsambitious ‘100 smart cities’ project. To developinfrastructure in rural areas, the Government haslaunched Syama Prasad Mookerjee RurbanMission and Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram JyotiYojana. The Government is also working onstrengthening and modernising the boarderinfrastructure.5. Abolishing GOMs, EGoMs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has abolishedall Group of Ministers (GoMs) and EmpoweredGroup of Ministers (EGoMs) which were set upduring the UPA tenure. The move is expediting theprocess of decision-making in the Ministries andushering in a greater accountability in the system.6. Streamlining bureaucracy

To take administration closer to people andensure that governance doesn’t get stuck in red

tape, the Narendra ModiGovernment is streamlining thebureaucracy with thrust ontransparency. The Governmenthas amended the All India Service(Conduct) Rules, 1968. Theamended guidelines mandate thatthe bureaucrats must maintainpolitical neutrality, take decisionsand make recommendations onmerit alone and take decisionssolely in public interest.7. Disbanding PlanningCommission

Narendra Modi Governmenthas disbanded the 64-year-oldPlanning Commission. In 1950,then Prime Minister JawaharlalNehru formed PlanningCommission on the line oferstwhile Soviet Union with anaim to formulating India’s fiveyear plans. But during the 60-year-

long Congress rule, the Commission was mostlyused as a parking lot for cronies of the grand oldparty. They did nothing apart from sucking up toCongress and its Prime Ministers. Narendra ModiGovernment is in the process of replacing thePlanning Commission with a new institutionkeeping in view of India’s needs amid changingglobal economic scenario.8. Recasting judicial appointment

In a path-breaking initiative, NarendraGovernment has got the National JudicialAppointments Commission (NJAC) Bill passed inboth the Houses of Parliament. The Bill scraps theCollegium System of appointment of Judges ofSupreme Court and the High Courts andestablished a six-member body for the appointmentof the Judges. The Chief Justice of the SupremeCourt will head the NJAC. Besides, the judiciarywould be represented by two senior Judges of theSupreme Court. Law Minister and two eminentpersonalities will be the other members of theCommission.9. Weeding out archaic laws

The Narendra Modi Government is workingovertime to weed out archaic rules and legislationsfrom the statute books. Most of them are lawsintroduced during the colonial British rule and

Modi Sarkar has rolledout the Pradhan MantriJan Dhan Yojana. Theambitious scheme aimsat a comprehensivefinancial inclusion byopening of bankaccounts of peoplewho have been left outin the process so far.On the inaugurationday, a record 1.5 crorebank accounts wereopened under thisscheme.

still prevalent in the country. These dysfunctional laws haveno relevance in the present day. These are obsolete laws whichonly hamper governance bycreating confusions. It onlycomplicates the legislationprocess and stand as a hindrancewithin the system.10. Bilateral diplomacy

Prime Minister NarendraModi’s SAARC diplomacy wasindeed a bold step towardscreating an atmosphere formultilateral economiccooperation.

The common challenges thatthese nations face have madeNarendra Modi create a commonagenda of growth with mutualcooperation. During his visit toNepal and Bhutan, NarendraModi used the greater Hinduheritage as an instrument offoreign policy. Modi Governmenthas given a strong message toPakistan by calling off theForeign Secretary-level talksafter Pakistani HighCommissioner to India AbdulBasit met Kashmiri separatistsdespite clear no from ForeignMinistry.

For the first time in India’shistory, New Delhi under theleadership of Narendra Modi hasasserted that it can’t be bulliedby the pressure from theKashmiri separatists and variouslobbyists. Narendra Modi’songoing Japan visit underlinesthe fact that India-JapanStrategic and Global cooperationcan shift the balance of power inAsia.

100 days is too short a timeto judge a Government. Let’s waitand watch with patience for theIndia’s real growth story to takeshape in the days to come.

Rajnath Singh asks Omar to identifyland for rehabilitation of

Kashmiri migrantsIn a major step towards bringing back Kashmiri Pandits

to their homeland, the Home Minister on September 5,2014asked Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah toidentify land for their rehabilitation in the Valley.

Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has written toOmar Abdullah seeking help for the displaced KashmiriPandits.

Shri Singh suggested that the land may be identifiednear the native place from where they migrated and alsoadvised that this should be done in such a manner therewas adequate security in and around the area.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had in its poll manifestopromised that it would bring back Kashmiri Pandits totheir homeland in a dignified manner. At present, there areabout 62,000 registered Kashmiri migrant families whomigrated from the Kashmir Valley to either Jammu, Delhior to other parts of the country after the onset of militancyin the border state.

KERALA

BJP sees senior Left leader's role in RSSswayamsevak's murder ; Demands CBI probe

The Kerala BJP on 04 September 2014 said that asenior CPI (M) leader had played a role in the conspiracybehind the brutal murder of RSS leader Manoj ofKathiroor, Kannur by a Marxist killer gang. The BJPand RSS boycotted an all-party peace meet convened inKannur by the District Collector saying that such meetswere just a farce when the Government was not readyto announce a CBI probe into the murder.

Former State BJP President Shri PK Krishnadas said,“Nothing less than a CBI probe into the murder isacceptable as this was the result of a conspiracy hatchedby CPI(M) leaders. The Marxist party’s Kannur modelpolitics of fascism and Stalinism should not recur inthis land, he said”.

Shri Krishnadas pointed out that Karat had during

his recent visit to Kannur said that the “KannurModel” functioning of the CPI(M) was effective inconfronting the BJP and that Manoj was murderedafter this. This was proof of the involvement of theCPI(M)’s national leadership in the murder,Krishnadas said.

Accusing the CPI(M) of trying to extend its“Kannur Model” to other areas, Shri Krishnadaswanted the alleged role of Karat in the conspiracyfor Shri Manoj’s murder be probed. “We are notgoing to confine our protests against Shri Manojmurder to Kerala. We are planning to make this acrucial issue in the national level,” he added.

BJP leaders will meet Chief Minister OommenChandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithalato demand a CBI probe into Shri Manoj’s murder. They have already made it clear that they willapproach the Centre with the demand for a CBIinvestigation if the Kerala Government refuses toheed to that.

Noteworthy, Shri Manoj (42), Kannur districtSharirik Shikshan Pramukh of the RSS, was brutallyhacked to death by a Marxist killer gang atDiamond Mukku in Kathiroor near Thalassery. Afriend of Shri Manoj, Pramod (50), was hospitalizedwith critical injuries. The BJP and the RSS hadobserved a State-wide shutdown in protest againstthe killing.

Kannur is infamous as Kerala’s Marxistheartland with a history of numerous incidents ofmurderous political violence in all of which theCPI (M) had invariably been on one side. Thispolitics of settling scores with blood has over thetime come to be known as the “Kannur Model” ofthe CPI (M).

WEST BENGAL

BJP will be the only viablealternative in Bengal

The Bengal BJP should grow not onlynumerically but also ideologically by banking onthe principles upheld by Prime Minister ShriNarendra Modi who wants the party to break freefrom vote-bank politics pursued by the other outfitsand concentrate on all round development of thenation, an assemblage of intellectuals andprofessionals who met on Friday in a brainstormingsession concurred.

Keeping in tune with the road map shown bythe Prime Minister and “ready to take up thechallenge in 2016” Assembly elections, the StateBJP is planning to widen its base among varioussections of the society, party Rajya Sabha memberDr. Chandan Mitra told media persons on thesidelines of the meeting.

“Bengal had declined in every respect; fromculture to economy and from education to industryin the past 36 years of Left and Trinamool Congressrule. This trend must be reversed and Bengal mustbe restored to its former glory. We want to arrestthis decline with the help of the people from allwalks of life. We want to work together witheveryone who wants to change the current regime,”he said calling upon the intellectuals to prepare aroad map for the saffron outfit so that the partycould address the real need of the hour.

The session was attended amongst others bymagician PC Sorcar, former MP Bikram Sarkar, actor Nimu Bhowmick, intellectuals like ChandreyiAlam, retired bureaucrats as also a galaxy ofbusinessmen and professionals.

Terming the meeting as highly successful, BJPleaders said such meetings would be held “onfrequent intervals and will be organizedthroughout the State so as to bring the peopletogether with the BJP.”

Ruing that “instead of industrializing Bengalthe political parties that ruled the State have de-industrialized it”, he said “the BJP has to takeupon itself the challenge of rebuilding the State’seconomy.”

Like political activities and agitations againstflawed policies of a Government, intellectualmovements also played a definite role inideological expansion of a outfit, Mitra said, adding“intellectual movement is needed because it createslegitimacy in the people’s mind.” Dr Mitrasumming up the speeches given by the otherspeakers said adding “this is the only way to buildthe BJP in Bengal both in numbers and in qualityso that we can bring about the end of a misrule of36 years shared by the Left and the Trinamool.”

“The message of Prime Minister Modi has tobe implemented to let Bengal flourish economically, politically, culturally as well as industrially onceagain,” he maintained and said in West Bengalthe BJP will be the only viable alternative in thenear future.

A baby’s eyes are rivetedon a flower or a butterfly. It keeps looking at the

object with unwinking eyes, eyesfull of wonder, for minutestogether. A mother calls herteenage daughter to go and havelunch, but there is no response. The call is repeated twice, thrice;still there is no response. Thegirl just does not hear, thoughher ears are very muchopen. Nor is she deaf. What could be the reason, then, for her nothearing? Her mind isimmersed in aSherlock Holmes or aHarold Robbins; hereyes are glued to thelines; her face isburied in the book.

In thedilapidated buildingof an elementaryschool, the class is on.The teacher explainssomething and then asksthe children, “Did itenter?”. There is aninstant response from thebackmost bench: “Only thetail has not entered yet!”. Theearnest voice belongs to a boywho has been all along intentlywatching the struggle of a rat towriggle out of the class roomthrough a hole in the wall. It hasmanaged to squeeze in its body, but its tail is still not gone in.Perhaps the hole is blocked.

These are everydayexamples of concentration.

Attention, concentration,meditation-these are differentdegrees of the same process. It isfixing the mind on a single objector idea to the exclusion ofeverything else.

In his book, “Concentration

and Meditation”, holy MasterSivananda presents a mostbeautiful scene to illustrate whatis meant by concentration. Inthis, Dronacharya tests thepower of concentration of hisstudents, the Pandavas. A basinof water is placed on the ground.Above, a clay bird is keptrotating. The archer hat to hit thebird by looking at its reflection

in the water.Drona: “O Yudhishthira,

what do you see?”Yudhishthira: “O Acharya

(teacher), I see the bird to beaimed at, the tree on which it issitting and yourself also.”

Drona: “What do you see,Bhima?”

Bhima: “I see the bird, thetree, yourself, Nakula,

Sahadeva, the tables andchairs, etc.”

Drona: “What do yousee, Nakula?”

Nakula: “I see thebird, the tree, yourself,Arjuna, Bhima, thegarden, the streamlet, etc.”

Drona: “What doyou see, Sahadeva?”

Sahadeva: “I see thebird to be aimed at,

yourself, Arjuna, Bhima,Yudhishthira, the horses, carriages, all the onlookers, several cows, etc.”

Drona: “Now then,Arjuna, what do you see?”

Arjuna: “O ReveredGuru! I see nothing but the bird

to be aimed at.”That is concentration.

Arjuna’s is the power ofconcentration. Concentration, when developed, becomesmeditation. To be continued………………………
