Networked Collective Training: Desktop trainer, networked to enable distributed training at multiple sites, permitting both individual and team training. The system embodies our vision of DTEC and T&EA(L) aligned solutions, providing coherence with DVS.

Digital Learning: Modern learning technologies to deliver immersive and engaging training content. Demonstrates how digital transformation can be used to provide engaging learning content for all users. Thales is tailoring digital learning solutions to meet the changing needs of the digital age.

Modelling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS): A research programme on behalf of DSTL; offering a new paradigm in which simulation resources are made available to all stakeholders via a Registry/Catalogue and simulations deployed to a secure cloud where they can be accessed at the point of need.

Integrated Action/Information Manoeuvre Training: Thales is working with the Army in its transformation to a new working structure. Integrated Action is the application of the doctrine of Joint Action in the land environment which produces customisable training that handles kinetic, socio/political/human components as well as information flow.

Common Scenario Editor/Sand Table: Thales is examining ways of streamlining this process by developing a Scenario Editor that enables scenarios to be constructed by concatenating validated vignettes. Recent research has integrated the Scenario Editor with a Registry/Repository to promote the reuse of scenarios.

Smart Fleet: Integrated solution which allows optimisation of maintenance planning and operations and to manage any kind of fleet.

Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality: Two proprietary demonstrations have been created so far. The first tool is for the visualisation and investigation of 3D time-series datasets in a VR environments, allowing a user to view and interact with a 3D point cloud as it changes with time. The second is a visualisation tool for sonar data, allowing a user to view and visually analyse a reconstructed model of the sonar data in a VR environment.

Command, Influence and Understand

Deep Learning and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN): Recognises targets earlier due to algorithms and machine learning to enable target identification and engagement. CNN classification can be easily implemented into AFV systems, thereby reducing the cognitive burden on the commander.

Antares: Early threat detection. Real time day and night local situation awareness (SA) and soft kill for combat vehicles. 360 degree SA and laser warning system.

Soldier Systems: Early prototypes of the Thales Power & Data (P&D) harness implementing the Generic Soldier Architecture (GSA) approach in a highly flexible and cost-effective manner ideally suited to the diversity of user need. This includes a novel mechanism allowing rapid transition between protective dress states.

SYNAPS: New broadband tactical software-defined radio family for collaborative combat. Unparalleled range, data rates, security and connectivity.

Comms through Inhibition: Wideband OFDM Communications Through Inhibition - Demonstration of mobile low rate video transport using a low power portable COTs Software Defined Radio platform.

Urban Canyon: DSTL funded research using a system engineering approach to provide SA such that a mounted close combat vehicle can operate closed down in an urban environment.

• Find

Seeing Around Corners: This technology allows the user to identify moving objects that would normally be hidden from view around a corner. By 2020, a hand-held instrument using this technology will minimise risks to security and military personnel operating within buildings and in urban environments generally.

Spy Ranger: Mini UAV offering high definition, day/night long range applications and automatic detection, video tracking, geotracking in surveillance or reconnaissance missions.

Multi sensor fusion: Novel multi sensor fusion technique around low cost emercial positioning for high accuracy applications in the land environment.

LIDAR: Novel LIDAR system for detecting range and velocity of particles in the atmosphere. Could be used to detect pop-up helicopters by measuring wind speed above ridge lines.

Land Electronic Warfare: Vigile D is an advanced R-ESM ELINT system that provides SA, self-protection for land, air and maritime domains. New innovations provide agile threat detection and highly accurate identification against multiple complex emitter environments, protecting platforms and people.

IMASTER Land Surveillance SAR/GTMI radar: Compact lightweight, high performance radar, provides world leading, Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) performance. New innovations provide enhanced All-Weather Surveillance, Detection and Recognition of targets over large areas at long standoff ranges.
