Land analysisOne of the goals of the
Virtual Eden project is trying to make the real world a little Eden. If we want our world to be an Eden, we will have to understand that it needs our help, we will have to see what will happen if nobody takes care of the world.
How to understand this?
Let's take a small piece
of land from
somewhere and put it
in a jar. Then, let's go
with it in the chemistry
laboratory and see...
We need to find out what is
the pH of the land.
To do this, first we must
mix it with water,
because we can't do
anything with the litmus
paper on dry dirt.
After mixing the dirt with water, students
started the next step of the analysis.
They filtered the mixure to obtain a clear liquid that could be analysed.
By simply inserting the litmus paper in that water with the soil extract,
we found out the pH for each of
the land samples.
This sounds simple, but don't forget we had to go and collect ground samples before doing the analysis!...
Moieciu townland pH = 4,5 - 5
Ilfov districtland pH = 8 - 8,5
Our schoolyardland pH = 6 - 6,5
