On February 12, 1925, two of Lancaster’s most prominent
businessmen, J. R. and S. G. Haselden, opened the doors of
“The Grand.” The enthralled opening night guests raved
“Spectacular... a Kentucky Showplace.” Six beautiful chandeliers,
crafted using actual parts from Model T Fords and illuminated
with 277 lights, adorned the main auditorium. There were four
elaborately furnished boxes that comfortably accommodated
thirty-six guests perched in luxury above the 750-seat auditorium.
The Haseldens, theatrical connoisseurs with a penchant for New York’s
Broadway, had invested the then extravagant sum of $40,000 to build
andequipTheGrand.Thesparklingnewtheatrefulfilledtheirvisionof
creating a gem in Central Kentucky. Lancaster embraced The Grand, and
it became a regional theatre that featured the latest movies, including
serials,comedies,andwesterns.Thebilloffarealsoofferedstageshows
and vaudeville acts. On Saturday nights, it was standing room only for
latecomers.
HISTORY OF THE LANCASTER GRAND THEATRE
4
Today the Lancaster Grand vision has been reborn by history and civic-
minded benefactors. Through painstaking planning and efforts, The
Grand has been preserved and restored as a living part of Kentucky
history. Its previous architectural and visual grandeur has been integrated
with technological advancements to make the Grand a state-of-the-art
performing arts center. This third season is part of the beginning of a long
parade of world-class entertainment that will come to the heart of Central
Kentucky. The Grand truly comes to life again in the eyes and ears of a
new generation.

DEL McCOURY BANDVince Gill says it simply, and maybe best: “I’d rather hear Del McCoury sing ‘Are You Teasing Me’ than just about anything.” For fifty years, Del’s music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans-count Gill among them-as well as a growing number of fans among those only vaguely familiar with the genre. Del’s music gives hope to everybody. “Fifty years is a long time to be playing music in any field,” says another fan, Elvis Costello. “But to keep the purity that you need to do this kind of music, and the drive and the energy takes a special kind of guy.” And indeed, McCoury is something special, a living link to the days when bluegrass was made only in hillbilly honkytonks, schoolhouse shows and on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, yet also a commandingly vital presence today, from prime time and late night talk show TV to music festivals where audiences number in the hundreds of thousands.

RUSSELL MOOREAND IIIRD TYME OUTWhile many bands have come and gone, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out have endured. In the process, they’ve managed to climb to the top not just once, but twice—winning a slew of IBMA vocal awards, including two Male Vocalist of the Year honors in the mid and late 1990s, then persevering through rough times to see Moore recapturing Male Vocalist trophy for three more years. Along the way, they’ve made a whole new generation of fans, and with the release of Timeless Hits From The Past… BLUEGRASSED by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and their latest self-produced album, It’s About Time, the quintet are poised to again deliver their distinctive kind of music.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: LIVE FROM WVL RADIO THEATRE
Join the citizens of Bedford Falls in this traditional live radio broadcast style show. This “play within a play” is complete with commercials, jingles, live sound effects, George and Mary Bailey, Mr. Potter and all the characters we have grown to love in this Frank Capra classic tale. Five veteran Broadway actors, supported by a sound-effects man, deliver the lines of all the characters from the movie. Four are dressed in fashions suggesting that their characters live in the golden age of radio, almost certainly the 1940s. The fifth actor appears to be a 21st-century guy who has wandered into a dusty, deserted old radio studio and sees the others as ghosts. In short order, though, he is interacting with them. In fact, he finds himself cast in the role of George Bailey, originally played by Jimmy Stewart.

A CHRISTMAS CAROLA powerful story of redemption, Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, has enchanted audiences the world over with its simple message of selfless giving. Ebenezer Scrooge, a most unrepentant, miserly fellow, is made to see the light as he survives a merciless battery of revelations by the ghosts of his own Christmases: Past, Present, and Future.
This fully staged musical adaption of Dicken’s work comes direct from the New York Palace Theatre, selected in 2012 as Outstanding Historic Theatre by the League of Historic American Theatres. This timeless classic is filled with lush costumes, stunning sets, music, and dance featuring veteran Broadway actors.
With beloved traditional carols of the season included, A Christmas Carol is an enchanting way to begin the holiday festivities. The performance has become an annual tradition at the Lancaster Grand Theatre!

THE GIBSON BROTHERSThe Gibson Brothers have racked up a lot of firsts these past few years: in 2012, they were named IBMA’s Entertainer of the Year, the first time a brother duet has won this award, and they proved it was no fluke when they repeated the achievement in 2013. That same year, they also won the Vocal Group of the Year, Song of the Year (“They Called It Music”) and Eric was named Songwriter of the Year. In 2012, they also earned the Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year award for “Singing As We Rise.” In 2011, The Gibson Brothers were named the IBMA Vocal Group of the Year, the first time a brother duet has won that award. These days, The Gibson Brothers are still at the pinnacle of bluegrass music, bringing their unique northern take on this music to audiences from coast to coast and earning praise from critics and fans alike. As bluegrass legend Del McCoury says: “When I hear the Gibson Brothers, I know it’s them from the first note. They have that little thing in their voices that no one else has.”

JAMES GREGORYFor over two decades, the unforgettable caricature of veteran comedian James Gregory has stood grinning: his shirt untucked, his arms outstretched, a carefree welcome to a down-home, hilarious comedy experience. It’s storytelling at its best. The trademark caricature is the essence of James Gregory’s comedy: rib-tickling refl ections on life from the front porch.
The James Gregory show turns the clock back to a time when life was simpler; to a better time, before the death of common sense; a time when people sat on the front porch and actually talked to each other without a cell phone in their ear. Gregory’s success, like his comedy, is the direct result of the values he grew up with. And now, twenty something years later, it is this unique brand of humor that packs the crowds into his sold-out shows. He’s known as the “Funniest Man Alive.”

AN EVENING WITH GALLAGHER:The Jokes On You Comedy Tour with special guests Artie Fletcher & Bob Nelson
Sure, he’s the famous watermelon smasher. Yes, he literally INVENTED the television stand-up comedy special. Absolutely, 14 Showtime specials is a big deal. And certainly 3,500 live shows to capacity crowds is worth mentioning.
But how about that Gallagher is the reason they invented Comedy Central? Or that before him no one ever had that level of interaction with a live audience? Or that he was the #1 comedian (in ticket sales and ratings) for almost 15 years?
Gallagher has led an extraordinary life, with an even more spectacular career. His fan base is one of the most loyal there is, and he rewards them every chance he gets. Now on his farewell tour, he will do it one last time.

SHADOWS OF THE 60S
A TRIBUTE TO MOTOWNSHADOWS OF THE 60s pays tribute to the tremendous legacy of The Four Tops, Temptations & Supremes. In this show, artists who performed with Motown “greats” will perform the hits that span several decades. Stunning choreography & costumes! It’s also the best music of Motown’s Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Martha Reeves, Junior Walker, and more! The group, composed of extremely talented, experienced musicians and singers, flawlessly performs Motown charts that covered a forty year period of popular music that, for many of us, formed part of the tapestry of our lives. There is a point when artistry, passion and showmanship transform a performance into something that is magical. It’s a concert not to be missed!

SEUSSICAL
UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
