There was an entry of 25 head of dairy cattle at the April Dairy Sale, comprising of 1 cow, 21 heifers and 4 in-calf heifers. The pre-sale show was judge by Graham Bradley, of Pressall, who after much deliberation awarded the 1st Place heifer and then Champion Rosette to Lot 7, Garsby Windybrook Irene, sold a month calved, she later went on to sell for £1800 to the judge. Reserve Champion was awarded to lot 13, from MJ & H Atkin-son, supported by 4 generations of VG & EX and sold giving 31litres she went on to realise £1850. Trade topped at £2350, again from Mark and Heather Atkinson, with Wyredale Seaver Gertrude 49. Trade was selective throughout the sale, with the best heifers selling well, whilst the middle range sorts were a fraction easier in comparison to last month. Overall average of £1520 for all heifers forward. Trade of the morning came from G & M Robin-son, Longfield House selling four heifers’ in-calf to the Angus, to £1400 (x3) and £1380.
