Executive Meeting Report — November 2014

Carol Darou thanked Muriel Hopper for hosting this meeting. President (Carol Darou) - some items in storage are being removed and offered to other groups. There is now a full Committee for QOTT. Insurance appears to be in place. Someone has shown interest in coordinating the 25th Anniversary event. Sponsorship for CQA was discussed and it was agreed that we would not sponsor this year. Vice President (Marilyn Robinson) - so far 33 people are signed up for the December QT. Past President (Jean Sherwin) - list of continued roles for 2015/16 is now complete. Those positions that need filling will be posted in January’s newsletter. Treasurer (Janice Spitz) - Treasurer’s Report reviewed and accepted. Block of the Month (Cathy Price) - in Cathy’s absence, Carol advised that the next row is Flying Geese. Library (Marie Amyot) - Marie presented the books coming into the Library this month. She will also be culling library books for sale during the January stash sale. Membership (Muriel Hopper) - 2014/15 Membership Directory is ready for printing. We have 155 members so far. Newsletter (Lynne Green) - 84 members have requested their newsletter by email so far. Outreach (Anna Cornel) - a table for selling raffle tickets for the 25th Anniversary Quilt will be set up at the Christmas Sale. Blocks for the 2015 charity quilt are due for return at this meeting.

Program (Beverly Davidge) - Draft Program Guidelines were reviewed. Program events are in place until November 2015 Publicity (Arlene Pellett) - posters for the November meeting was shown as well as the poster advertising the Christmas Sale and Luncheon. Arlene will contact Lake88 to advertise the sale during Lacey’s Trading Post on Saturday morning. Social (Barb Dodds) - November’s snacks are being organized by Barb Halpin.

October 2014 Meeting Review

There were 98 members and 8 visitors in attendance at this meeting. Door prizes were donated by Marie Amyot, Nancy Jossinet, Wilhelmine Hill, Christine Piché, and Sharon Kryvenchuk. The winners were Patricia Parry, Shelda Bell, Peggy Cowle, Lois Roberts, and one more person whose name was missed. Obviously our members have been working diligently, as there were more than 40 inspiring show and tell items this month. Carol Darou advised that two boxes will be set up for November for monetary donations for LAWS and the Food Bank (as requested by both agencies). She has four vouchers for a retreat at Inspired Getaways which any group within the Guild are welcome to have. Someone is still needed to coordinate the activities for our 25th Anniversary. A publicity person is required for the QOTT. Marilyn Robinson thanked all members who have donated items to the Fall Sale. The December QT will be held on Wednesday, December 3 from 10:00 - 3:00 at the Perth Civitan. Both meat and vegetable lasagnas will be served. Sign up is required. A few more loaves of sandwiches and pans of squares are needed for the Fall Sale. Remember that a 10% fee from consignment items will be paid to the Guild. Anna Cornel needs a few more volunteers to make blocks for the 2015 Charity Quilt. Kits/sign up will be at the back of the Hall. Cathy Price drew members’ attention to the first row of completed blocks on display. There are currently three other

Guilds doing her 2013/2014 Block of the Month.

Library

New in the library this month are two books by Leni Levenson Wiener who is a quilter and instructor whose work has been exhibited internationally. She teaches workshops on both traditional and art quilt techniques. Visit her website at

www.leniwiener.com

1) Photo-Inspired Art Quilts From Composition to Finished Piece gives many examples to teach you the skills and give you inspiration to create your own art quilts.

2) 3-Fabric Quilts, Quick Techniques for Simple Projects shows twelve fantastic quilts that each require only three fabrics. The quilts are composed of squares and rectangles making cutting and piecing easy for quilters of all skill levels. Layouts are given for arranging blocks in symmetrical or random placement.

A Quilter's Diary Written in Stitches by Mimi Dietrich contains 150 pieced and appliqued block patterns to construct

the pieces of your life in fabric. Suggestions are given for arranging anywhere from 4 to 25 blocks in either straight or on-point settings. The gallery of quilts made by Mimi's students will inspire you for making your own diary quilt.

Thanks to Janet Bailey for donating the following books:

Sew Quick Two-Color Quilts from Leisure Arts contains 14 traditional patterns with time saving instructions. Find more on the web site www.leisurearts.com

Magic Quilts by the Slice by Bethany Reynolds contains 15 quilt projects using her Stack-n-Whack method to make beautiful fan blocks with simple and versatile settings. For information on Bethany's other Stack-n-Whack books visit www.bethanyreynolds.com

Note: There will be a book sale from our library during the

January Stash Sale. ~ Marie ~

Block of the Month

Welcome back to this month’s Block of the Month with our third instalment of a row of Flying Geese, and no paper piecing. You will love this method. I enjoyed it so much, I did it three times, trying to decide on colours. You also get two months to finish this row or get caught up on your previous rows. As always, have fun. ~ Cathy ~

Newsletter Deadline

The deadline for January newsletter submissions is January 15, 2015.

Did you know?

Usually our newsletter is group emailed the Friday before our monthly meeting, to those members who have requested them by email If you think you are not receiving them, check your Bulk Mail or Junk Mail folders on your computer as your antivirus software may automatically move the email from your inbox thinking that the email is spam. If you still cannot find the email, then please advise Lynne Green so she can resend the newsletter to you individually.

It is important that you give a description or name of your show and tell item rather than just writing, for example, king quilt. A description or quilt name helps our photographer match her photos with the list, and also helps attribute the item to the correct person when a picture is included in the newsletter. Thanks for your help in doing this

Your tips, hints or general news are needed for this section or elsewhere in the newsletter, so please email or give them to Lynne Green. Thanks.
